  1. So I started looking for my proverbial gas smell on my 89. Couldn't find anything wet or seeping. Decided to sync the carbs. I also checked the vacuum caps that I had to remove to hook up the sync hoses. I checked them by sucking on them and letting them stick to my lip. The last one I checked would not create suction. I could not find a crack, or leak, but it would not create suction. So, I replaced it with one off of the 87. after syncing and the new cap, boy...it runs smooth. Here is the question: When syncing the 89, the Carbtune reading was close to 32 on the scale. Is there a level/reading that it should be ? What/how is that adjusted ? I was able to balance the carbs and the sides. I was also playing with my 87 and even though I still have major carb issues on that one, The reading was around 20 on the scale. Now I know that the 87 could, and probably is not an accurate reading due to the carb issues, but it got me thinking about the readings.
  2. This is true! I just had an issue with my fuse holder for my headlight. Changed out the fuse box to a double fuse block I got from a local speed shop. The fuse holder/connector went bad while the fuse was fine. Also are you trying with the kickstand up ?
  3. My fuse box on my 89 just went to crap on Friday. I found out I didn't have a front headlight when I stopped at a light behind a work truck that had a rear window and my reflection showed no headlight. Turned out that the fuse holder, not the fuse, had given up. Needed something ASAP so I went to a local speed shop and found a 2 block fuse holder. Wired it up with one block that turned on with accessory and moved all the aux lights to the block that turned on with the ignition on setting. Try replacing the fuse block with an updated block. Could just be an old wire/connection.
  4. What are the differences of these part numbers ? I see the 3rd switch number you gave, 272-646, is the momentary switch, but these others do what ?
  5. Brian, I finally had some time to check the mounting of the switch mount on 89 and 87. They both fit perfectly ! It is on ,y list to stop by Radio Shack today for the switches. One will be for my driving lights I am mounting and the other will be a momentary switch for my garage door opener modification that I am looking forward to completing. Pictures below.
  6. There are threads on how to make the battery by-pass. It costs about 2.00 to make. And takes 10-15 minutes
  7. Maybe talk to Golf and Venture (Brian) he has that 91 motor with low miles in the bike he is parting out.
  8. Isn't the red and white wire the battery bypass wire ? I would have to take mine apart to check for sure, but I thought the red & white was what was used to put the resister to bypass the battery.
  9. Does a 2nd Gen have a mute button like a 1st Gen ?
  10. Looking forward to seeing this build. Gonna be the first fast 2nd Gen !
  11. :happy65: Looking forward to them arriving.
  12. But you did !!
  13. I have a gallon I'll sell you for $49.99 plus shipping...
  14. Please.. if you haven't listed your bike year etc under your site nickname, please do. So many ask and answer questions without showing what bike, yea,r generation etc that they have. You then have to go to their profile to see what bike they are talking about. Rant off... thanks.
  15. Yea... what they say about the pictures !! and Rocket is the best with advice and help. Like they say ....he is a real sweetheart ! lol
  16. So I got my scare of the year in today. Scared the dang * bajeebers right out of me. Riding down the street in town, :7_6_3[1]:flow of traffic , 35ish mph. Listening to 70’s music and watching a young gal riding my @ss. Hit my brakes several times trying to get her to back off a little. I saw her swerve hard right to change lanes… what I didn’t notice was what she cut off to do it. There was a LARGE delivery truck in the other lane. One that had a very LARGE set of air horns on the roof, right over the drivers head. This put the air horns about a car length behind and 3 ½ feet over my right shoulder. He let go with a blast of air horns that had me jumping up, ducking for cover, looking “under” my shoulder and all around all at the same time ! I was trying to figure out what was going to kill me in milliseconds. Once I obtained my composure back, I continued to ride, with a pulse rate in the high 210’s and a blood pressure level too high to read. Several lights later the truck pulled up alongside me as we slowed for the light. The driver hanging half out of the window apologized profusely stating that she almost hit his front changing lanes and it was just his reaction to hit the horns… I could tell he felt bad. I’m guessing he had observed my reactions at the sound of his horn and also felt bad about the draining * bajeebers from the bottom of the foot pegs..…. * Definition of Bajeebers: Noun and action verb. Describes a level of fear that can cause massive unexpected, and uncontrollable loss of bowel functions, high pulse rate, fear of immediate death and rapid heart palpitations. Bajeebers can also be the end result of such fear often accumulating in underwear, pant legs and socks. Occasionally associated with fear level of 9.72 and higher on a scale of 1-10. Sometimes related to a rat’s @ss but not related to a round tuit
  17. Anybody know what length of hose I will need to replace all the gas line ? What size hose is it ? I would like to buy it prior to tearing the bike apart.
  18. Happy Birthday Big Guy ! Hope you have a great 1st Gen year !
  19. Brian, If nobody has one already off and laying around, I will take one off of one of my parts bikes. I believe the 84's are the same.
  20. Thanks guys ( except Playboy:sun:) for the HELPFUL information. Guess I will check the lines.
  21. Hey.... who left the door open and let the 2nd Genners in here ????
  22. So I know it is somewhat of a common problem on our 1st Gens. They are just so dang fast the gas fumes in the tank cannot keep up with the bikes. My bike has developed the “gas smell in the garage” syndrome. It seems to be getting worse. I have checked the diaphragms, checked for overflow from the carbs. Adjusted the idle screws. Trying to decide the next step. So, what are the solutions that you guys have found ? What is the next couple of steps I should try ?
  23. DAN... Some 2nd Genner hacked your account and is trying to make it look like you are going to the very dark side. Change your password and save yourself !
  24. Definitely follow the healing and therapy instructions. Don't try to push things too fast. I am partially titanium. You will have fun with the TSA at airports. I think I am engage to like 4 TSA friskers at different airports...
