  1. We should post a poll on how many 1st Genners vs 2nd Genners there are. I have 2 riders and 2 parts bikes. Yammer Dan has.... I think at last count 457 +/- 10 or 12. The first Genners would answer this week and the slower 2nd Genners would probably show up and answer next week..... Since we wouldn't want anybody to feel left out, we could have an "other" category for the Hardley and Goldwing wanna-bees.... :stirthepot: :stirthepot:
  2. The "torch" sure would be faster.....
  3. Jump over to the First Gen Tech area and you will find a lot of info on the work you need to do. Also, be sure to pull and clean and grease the triple tree fork neck bearings. That made SO much difference in my 89. Also I agree with the front fork brace AND the Progressive springs. They also made a BIG difference. PM me with a regular email address that I can attach word files to and I can send you a bunch of informative instructions you can print off and put in a 3-ring binder. I have collected "how to" threads and made my own repair manual. Good Luck and welcome ! P.S. Did you know that you have a faster bike than the 2nd Gens have here ? Just a little side info !
  4. You know...I have actually thought about the possibility of that happening....
  5. Brian, I installed the MarkLand off of my 87 onto my 89. It was an easy fit. I have the rear bumper and it was not in the way. Here are a few pictures. if it helps.
  6. Our first and only Grand Princess just turned 1. What a change of life she is !
  7. Looks like I got rid of my gas smell too. Found one of the vacuum caps on the carb intake was leaking..not holding vacuum and I re-synced the carbs and besides running a lot better...no gas smell after parking in the garage.
  8. I have used them to confirm the mileage at least.; I once bought a Suburban and then pulled the Carfax only to find out that it had been an auctioned vehicle and the mileage had been turned back over 30,000 miles. Since it was a "private" sale, the AG wouldn't touch it.
  9. The reason things aren't turning well enough in a certain place inside the body causing people to buy 2nd Gens ???
  10. and that the volume "knob" on the handle bar unit is turned all the way clockwise.
  11. I was able to pull one off of my parts bike. Will put it on my 87. Thanks to this thread, I would never have known to check that puppy. :happy65:
  12. I checked both of them today. One has a major "ding" ( not to be confused with Dingy) and the other one has that tiny little double ding in it. But the main thing is it appears to be "chalky" from age.
  13. OKAY.... ( I love this forum!) I just went out and checked my 89. Held a vacuum no problem. Checked the 87 and found it lost vacuum fast ! This might explain why the previous owner disconnected it and ran the cruise control vacuum line to the cylinder port. ( I know ...go figure ) could be part of my ongoing carb issues. So, if this vacuum line is losing vacuum that fast, how will that affect the running and the carbs ? At start up ? when warm ?
  14. Where this mounted/located out of curiosity ? Would 84 MKI's fit MKII's ?
  15. If the one off of an 84 would work, I have probably 2 to chose from. So part Gurus.. is the 84 the same as his 91 ?
  16. Congrats :happy65:
  17. Mine runs worse with the airbox off.
  18. I sold my KLR650 in February to a guy in New Mexico. I just got a call from him and some New Mexico paperwork he needed signed to change the title. It's still been in my name for 7 months...glad I kept the plate off of it when it left.
  19. Good job Brian ! Now just heal up and give your body time to recover from your asphalt slide. :happy65:
  20. This is good to know. I will try that on both of mine.
  21. One other thing to try ... there is a mute button on the control box over the left handle grip. Make sure the mute button isn't pushed in and the volume turned up to high to overcome the mute. Also, make sure the CB is turned off and the volume controls on the right side are turned off.
  22. I was going through batteries on all my bikes, most lasting around a year. I found out that it was because I pretty much kept them on on tenders most of the time. They would just "burn" them up. I was constantly adding water. Once I stopped using the tenders, my batteries have lasted longer.
  23. Thanks for the info. Guess I will have to pull the Carbtune and do the math to see if that works out. I'll try Orielly's..that is where I bought a package, but they are flimsy and thin. I'll stop by PepBoys too. Probably go to a local Hot Rod shop and see what they have. Things do get hot out here ...but like they say ...It's a dry heat.... Thanks Frank.
  24. Funny thing is that the caps that looked cracked and old were holding suction. The one that looked good, no cracks didn't. I still do not know why. I need to find some new thick/heavy duty caps for both bikes. Bought some others in a package, but they seem flimsy and I'm not sure they could handle the heat.
