  1. Thought I would pass this on from my friend Skip. He has a collection of old dirt bikes from the 60's, 70's and maybe early 80's. I have always been impressed with his bikes since after a complete restoration, he will still ride them. Anyways, he has an old Penton he restored and had an opportunity to meet John Penton and they used his bike in the video trailer below: He sent the info and link below: ------------------- Hey all you vintage dirt bike lovers, here's your chance to make a great project come true. Below is a link to a movie trailer telling the story of PENTON and how John Penton changed the dirt bike scene in America. They are in the funding stage currently and hoping to generate enough interest to get this movie produced. Pass along the link to any fans of that era and maybe soon we'll all get to enjoy this movie on the big screen. Any support or help to see this through would be greatly appreciated. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...le-lovett-rela These are a great bunch that could use some help and the bike in the trailer at the end isn't all that bad either. Thanks Skip
  2. If you need any parts, I have an old speedo out of one of my 84 parts bikes laying in the garage. Like they .." If the part fits, you can have it" .. or something like that..
  3. So... a week ago I went to ride the 89 and by the time I had rolled backwards out of the garage and was ready to leave... bummer.. no clutch. Then saw the puddle by where the kickstand was. Ordered the parts for the clutch slave cylinder. Rebuild it Friday night. Saturday morning... fluid puddle. Guess it is the short hose from the long tubing to the clutch slave cylinder. The problem... i can not locate the part number, or find it on Boats.net/(aka) Powersports. Their microfiche show it a a ghost part under clutch, but I can't find the part to order. I looked in my manual (copy attached) and found the part, but again no description. Any help out there on where to order this hose ? Also, would a hose off of an 84 MKI be the same one as a 89 MKII ?
  4. There are some great write ups on taking the switches apart. I can't remember which member wrote them ( snaggletooth maybe? ) but I had copied them and attached my copy. Throttle switch clean.pdf
  5. Looks like that one has some upgrades. Front fender chrome/lights, rear light bumper, front disk covers with lights. Looks clean but appears to be missing the rear antenna. Good luck on that one ...if it is as clean as the pictures...she is a beauty. ..Did I mention I love the blue ones...
  6. Ohhh.. a blue 87.. I love it ! I have a blonde (gold) 87 and a brunette 89. You will like the MKII 87 better than the MK1. The list of items to look at that are in the original post are the MKII items. That list from Sky Doc was for me when I first looked at my 89 last December. Then in February I bought my 87 and then mid summer two more 84 parts bikes. They are addicting. I have included the information from the link in a Word document that just made it easier for me to read and look at the bike at the same time. Also attached the stat sheets for an 89 very similar to an 87. 1989 stats and information.doc CHECKLIST for 1st Generation VENTURES.doc

  8. Yea.. i think they refer your type as ' Bi-Kers" Sorry...couldn't resist.....
  9. You will also need to know that the 2nd Gen owners here are EXTREMELY jealous of the 1st Gens. They bought their Harley look-a-likes then realized what a real bike looks like and rides like, hence the jealously. But, don't worry, we understand and love them anyways... oops I mean
  10. The one big issue/difference is that the 83-early 85's can develop a 2nd gear issue. There are threads regarding that. Otherwise, WELCOME ! My friend has a blonde 83 and loves his 83 MK1.
  11. Yea... we have lost 13, no I think 14 new members this year alone to that mistake...
  12. OK.. so I backed the bike out of he garage to ride the with the wifey to the U of A football game and the clutch sucked, there was a small puddle on the floor, so we took the car. Got home and removed the slave cylinder. What a pain ! But, the I rotated it with the bleeder down, bent the crap out of the metal holder that holds the wired together and got it down the bottom. SO.. the slave cylinder looks great inside, o rust, no pitting. Used a small honing tool just to clean it up and that made it almost perfect. SO... where is the best (cheapest and fastest) place to get a rebuild kit ? I also need the gasket for the cover and the seal in the block for the push rod. Anybody on here selling those parts ? I will probably get two of everything since I will do the 87 next just because I now will know how to do it. P.S. The Wildcats kicked Colorado's butt pretty good today.

    AZ riding?

We do ride pretty much year round. In fact my wife was not happy that we couldn't ride to the U of A game ( Beat the crap out of Colorado) today because when I backed the 89 out of the garage, there was very little to no clutch. ( just finished removing the slave cylinder tonight). Anyway, there is a lot to see out here in the southern end. Bisbee, Tombstone, Kitt Peak Observatory, Saguaro National Forest, Old Tucson, Desert Museum, Tubac, Mt Lemmon (depending on time of year) The wineries in Sonoita and I'm sure I have forgotten a few others. In the northern end, Sedona is a must, then you can shoot over to Jerome and Cottonwood has a few wineries, Williams is a cool little town west of Flagstaff ( part of Route 66). We have the Grand Canyon ( stay in Williams and take the Grand Canyon railway to the canyon ) Depends on time of year as to the best parts to ride. If you end up this way, give me a call, I am in Tucson, if you are down here you can have a place to stay.
  14. We had our first cold spell last night. Started mine up then shut he down... walked back out and low and behold.. my leak is back. Well I have the parts to (hopefully) fix it, so guess this is the time to do that. Also lost the clutch , so the slave cylinder gets rebuilt too !
  15. Glad you are OK. But, next time wreck the 2nd Gen..they are a dime a dozen and easily replaced. The 1st Gen is a prize. Hope you can resurrect it.
  16. Go to the article and watch the video... http://www.theblaze.com/stories/ax-wielding-motorcycle-riding-thieves-break-into-london-mall-in-stunning-heist-caught-on-video/# I would think the one guy with the white stripe helmet would be identifiable..
  17. Just did the Williams (Route 66), Grand Canyon Railroad train to the Canyon, Sedona, Jerome trip two weeks ago. There are also several wineries in Cottonwood just outside of Sedona. In Williams there is a restaurant just by the RR tracks that has the best/biggest pie slices around. Have fun. Oh yea..ZION is a MUST do !!
  18. I Heard it was a "short" story with shocking ending.
  19. Great.. thanks..PM sent.
  20. What happened to the DVD and the list ?? I am waiting.......
  21. Bump...since I will be doing my 87 and 89 this winter..
  22. OEM...and if you even think about trying an aftermarket we will have to slap you so hard that the earth could shift off it's axis. Been there done that ! OEM all the way on the seals.
  23. ABSOLUTELY !! The set of two pliers at Harbor Freight were worth every penny. Also, wipe just a little grease on the inside of the tubes to help slide down.
