You know that there is a song about your problem.... By Mary Macgregor Torn Between Two Ventures lyrics Torn between two Ventures, feeling like a fool Loving both of you is breaking all the rules Torn between two Ventures, feeling like a fool Loving you both is breaking all the rules You mustn't think you failed me just because there's another one to consider You were the first real love I ever had, Never looked at a 2nd Gen I swear that still is true For no one else can have the Venture color blue -

I hope these will help. I am torn on what to tell you. These are beautiful bikes when "blinged out" . The blue is my favorite. There is a gold 87 with a trailer that was just posted for $3500.00 that has a lot of extras. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4537 But, all advice given here is good, unless it came from a 2nd Gen owner then do the opposite ! I was just wondering the same thing. I am used to getting my "Rocket" call asking how my bike is running and my latest bike related issues. I hope he isn't in any trouble as I heard today that the North Koreans moved a "Rocket" towards the it's east coast.

I also agree...be careful ! I bought my 87 non-running with a "great story" from the seller. "Running when parked two years ago" "Rode it all over Arizona before I parked it" Etc Etc Etc... It was in a nice airplane hanger, he had a cool plane, drove a nice car, rebuilding a nice Vette at his house.... I thought clean carbs and ride it.... WRONG... he had screwed so much up on it, probably trying to get it running... stripped carb bolts, used clear silicone on the carbs ..all inside n out ! wired the headlight wrong, and my favorite.. hooked up the vacuum on the left front cylinder to the vacuum of the cruise control . I have put a lot of time and $$ in this bike and it is still apart and barely runs. I could have bought a nice bike for the time and money I have in it. Go in low $$... or don't go in.. -
Me too ! I love the fingerless gloves.

Air mixture screw heads stripped

I have a set of carbs from an 84. They were left open to the elements and some parts are easy to get off, the slides haven't been. But, of there are any parts you still need through this adVenture, let me know. -

87 Carb Issue - another type of diaphragm
KIC replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Anybody have leads to who sells the lowest priced carb kits ? Or do I have to order pieces separately ? Also, what is the proper name for these diaphragms ? Air cutoff diaphragms ? -
When I bought my 87 I finally got it running and it would idle then rev up to 8K RPM. i also had noticed that when starting it the throttle would "rock" back and forth. I finally found that the previous owner had connected the front left cylinder vacuum hose to the cruise control Go figure... why...I guess I will never know ...but it isn't the only stupid thing he had done... the surprises just keep coming....

Carb Diaphram issue?
KIC replied to af226's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I know I have read about how to put those back together. When I did my 87 I did not have a problem with the parts coming apart. Here are some links on the diaphragms. I would PM SkyDoc and ask him. http://jbmindustries.com/Yamaha650.html http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32121 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=70432 -

87 Carb Issue - another type of diaphragm
KIC replied to KIC's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So, if these were bad , as the one was and the others look "effected" would that cause the need to use full choke and cause the one carb to not function ? -
I have watched the video several times and I do not see the guy doing anything wrong. Yes, he accelerated into the left, then right lane, but once the pick up truck went to the right turn lane, switching over was a normal thing to do. Next, you really have to look at the Altima. It has it's turn signal on and the rider appears to be trying NOT to be in the Altima's blind side. the Altima, in my opinion was being wishy washy - hesitant - maybe because he didn't know what the bike was going to do and the bike wasn't sure what the Altima was going to do. The Altima started to change lanes and the bike braked. The Police Officer was wrong ! Period ! Too close, not watching the traffic ahead. Probably running the bike's plate on his computer. The cop knew if a supervisor was called he was in a world of hurt. The Agencies I have worked with, if you didn't report even minor incidents like that, you were in trouble. As for the video cam, I know a lot of guys wearing them now to protect themselves from being blamed or helping show who was at fault in an accident. I plan on getting one sometime.

So.. I have been battling a carb problem with my 87. After checking the exhaust pipes to see if they were firing equally, I found the front right wasn't getting hot. Finally broke down and pulled the carbs. ( background: bought the bike from a guy who had it parked in his airplane hanger but had it parked over 2 years with gas in it.) First I found the previous idiot... I mean owner, used regular clear silicone all over. In the intakes, in the carb bowls..just everywhere. And as a bonus he left me with a lot of stripped Phillips screws. Got the screws out and replaced with ones from my parts carbs, but the worst part is that I found these little diaphragms look pretty wrecked. This one ( below) looks like he used some pretty harsh cleaner trying to get the bike running. I am guessing that these are like some type of accelerator type diaphragm. The Boats.net site says they are $40.00 each. Are these cheaper any where else ? I have checked the other ones and although the first one was the worse, the others look a little beat up too.

KIC replied to jdog910's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes. There is a member here that sells a set for that. I'm on travel today so I can't check who I got them from. Om sure somebody will chime in on who it is . -
Welcome to the green puddle club. I got all my parts from Boats.net. Haven't done the job on either bike yet, but I got the parts !

Since you are talking about a 2nd Gen, it's usually better to hide the bike and show the antenna....

If he doesn't have the fender, I think I have a good one on my 84 parts bike. -
I checked NCIC and there is several forum warrants out for the missing original Dragonslayer. Good thing you have a 1st Gen so you can out run the Internet Cops...

Should be 10 wt or 15wt if you want it a little stiffer. Put the progressives in and you will love them.
