  1. I know there are other threads about the 4 brush starter, but what years doe s the 4-brush start ? Are there any years that would not fit in an 89 Venture ? I want to start searching as mine is slowing getting to the point where the bike wont start when hot.
  2. Jan, There are some good articles on removing the carbs. I can tell you it is a pain in the @$$. I have attached the verbiage of a thread that cover the removal. If I can find the actual thread I believe it has pictures embedded which may help. Also, your first question on syncing the carbs you need a Carbtune to do that. I have a Carbtune and the instructions how to use it on a 1st Gen. If you need to borrow it let me know and we'll figure out how to get it up to you. Bill Tucson
  3. Two Yammers ??? There are some things that are best in moderation.... I do like the Venture Monkey one though.....Maybe I need an alter-ego..
  4. Sometimes you just have to ask WHY ??? Oh wait...that is another thread...

    Why?

The main question you might have is " DOES WHY REALLY EXIST ? It does ! First of all, I would like to state that I am pretty experienced with WHY. I have been to WHY many many times. We have constantly asked the question as to WHY ( ask my kids, WHY they hate WHY. I have driven through WHY going and coming. Usefulness is a matter of opinion and or necessity. The questions should involve whether it is useful or necessary. It may be necessary but not useful, or it may be useful but not necessary. You just have to ask yourself WHY ? Or you can ask yourself WHY not ? WHY is it ? or WHY isn't it? If you are concerned with being fair, ask yourself WHY are you concerned about it being fair. WHY is fairness so important as to whether it is necessary or not. WHY is this important ? Because to each one of us the internal question of WHY goes to the core of who we are, WHY are we who we are ? WHY are we not who we want to be ? WHY does that make a difference ? The answer to the question "WHY ? " is only off set with the question "WHY Not ?" Some of you may constantly be asking yourself WHY did I buy a 2nd Gen instead of the faster 1st Gen ? WHY ?? WHY?? So the main question you have to ask yourself at this moment is "WHY did I spend such valuable riding time reading this post...???" :confused24::confused24: It think I will go ride 2 1/2 hours west to WHY .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Why,_Arizona So how far are you from WHY ? What is available when considering WHY ? If you decide WHY NOT.. you are still covered... .
  6. Give us a little more info on how you do get it started. Full choke, little choke. lots of throttle movement etc. Also has it always been like that ? Slowly started ? Woke up one day realizing it wasn't a Venture and continues to throw a hissy fit tantrum ? Inquiring minds want to know...
  7. :happy65: This is so well stated and on line, that even if this thread ever gets closed, this post should get it's own thread so we can start all over....
  8. Just remember that if you leave here, that your support group will not be able to keep you from making a bigger mistake and buying a Harley. It's bad enough you were able to sneak out and get the Victory..
  9. If the title fits..... I personally like President Of Socialism or affectionately ... POS Is this still alive ???
  10. Good Point !!! Motorcops around aren't stealthy, they are cowards that hide behind bushes and illegal parking areas waiting to shoot some radar and screw up somebody's day. I have friends who are, or have been Motor Cops. They would give their grandmother a ticket for speeding while taking their grandfather to the hospital for a heart attack.... But then to get paid to ride all day long.... hmmmm The black color is going to get hot during our summer days down here..
  11. So, since I ride up in Marana often, I guess I have to ride the 1st Gen in order to out run them, or the 2nd Gen if I want the citation for impeding the flow of traffic...

    Why?

WHY NOT ???? Better you than me... I want to ride today and that white crap you all keep on the ground back there would interfere with my 72 degree, clear sky ride.... Now should I ride the 1st Gen or the noisy 2nd Gen....
  16. The first thing Marana police officer Bradley Clifford noticed when he laid eyes on his new Victory Stealth Commander I motorcycle was just how black it was. “It’s not like any other police bike,” Clifford says. “It almost looks like a Transformer or something a superhero might ride. All of that flat black really garners a lot of attention.” Of course, the striking, deep black color of the Stealth Commander I (based off a Victory Cross Country) wasn’t the only reason that the Marana, Ariz., police department decided to make the switch to Victory Police Motorcycles. They’d been riding BMW police motorcycles but were looking for a bike that would better fit the needs of their department. They’re less expensive to purchase and maintain while also providing the comfort, power, safety and even protection from gunfire that motorcycle officers require. Clifford has been putting his Stealth Commander I through the paces. A motorcycle officer for eight years and a rider for 25, Clifford has grown fond of his new ride. The first time he threw a leg over the Stealth, however, he wasn’t sure what to expect. “It’s huge,” he says. “It’s a big bike, but the low center of gravity really made me feel comfortable.” Clifford quickly learned the Stealth’s size belied its maneuverability. The Victorys were just as nimble and maneuverable as other motorcycles, and because the Stealth Commander I has long-haul bagger DNA, the bike is perfect for officers who might be in the saddle for hours on end. http://cdn.polarisindustries.com/community/vic/marana-police-department-with-victory-stealth-commander-2.jpg “We can ride them all day,” he says. Comfort and maneuverability are important to the Marana PD, but safety is a top priority — and safety for a motorcycle officer takes on a different meaning. Steel crash bars protect officers if the bike goes down and also allow an officer to intentionally “drop” his motorcycle — which will remain standing at a 34-degree lean — to use it as a shield. Mike Schultz, director of marketing for Victory Police Motorcycles, stresses that the Victory Stealth Commander I can be a lifesaver in ways that citizens will hopefully never have to worry about. “Every Victory police motorcycle comes with a full-length skidplate,” he told Tuscon’s KOLD news. “If I’m an officer and I’m being shot at, I can lay the bike down on its side. The bike and the skidplate will protect my torso.” The Marana Police Department is also finding maintenance of their new Victory bikes is quick and cost effective (not that frequent maintenance is an issue). Marana is just a short ride up the freeway from Tucson, where Victory Police Motorcycles makes its home. Tim Johnson, parts manager for Victory Police Motorcycles, has been working with the Victory Police Motorcycle team since 2007. “Police departments love the dependability that Victory bikes offer,” he says. “We haven’t seen any major breakdowns from any of the close to 40 departments we’re currently working with.” And if parts are needed, the cost savings to the Marana Police Department have been considerable. Says Officer Clifford: “To put it simply, it’s $1,200 to do a BMW clutch. It’s approximately $300 to do a clutch on a Victory.” So if you’re riding through the Marana area, keep your eyes peeled. The Marana PD is the first to deploy the Stealth version of the Victory Commander, and they’re a rare sight. A glimpse at one might even make getting pulled over by Officer Clifford or one of his fellow officers worth it
  17. Are the thickness of the shim(s) stamped in a place easy to read ? I have 2 84 parts bikes that maybe I should scavenge the shims out of...
  18. I had a big problem with a group of damaging grey squirrels. I tried the live traps because of my neighbor's feelings about them, but even when taken and released miles away, they seemed to find their way home. I then went to an half of apple hollowed out filled with a glob of peanut butter. For a little flavor seasoning, I added rat poison mixed into the peanut butter. Worked real well.
  19. Does this mean we are canceling the vote to kick him off the Venture Island ?? I caught my fru fru wife cleaning her shotgun and googling directions to his residence... I just need to know if that road trip is on or not..
  20. I am currently able to ride an 89 1st Gen and a 2001 RSV. My wife likes the ability to get on and off the 2nd Gen much easier. I rode the 2nd Gen for 2 weeks solid and then switched t the 1st Gen this past week. I like the handling and ride of the 1st Gen better in town. The 1st Gen does have a higher center of gravity than the 2nd Gen. I haven't taken the 2nd Gen on a freeway ride yet, but I will be doing that tomorrow. I don't know if it common to the 2nd Gen, but I find it to be more squirrelly when I hit asphalt snakes and cracks than when I ride the 1st Gen. I also hate the loud pipes, but that is specific to this bike.
  21. Just another 2nd Gen trying to produce enough power and revs to keep up with your 1st Gens...
  22. Take a can of Sea Foam spray or Techron spray then on the bottom of the carbs are a drain hose that is opened by a screw on the bottom of each carb. Drain the carbs into a can. Then with the screw open, insert the red straw into the hose and cover the end of the hose with a rag to prevent back spray. Use a ¼ can of spray into each carb. Once you spray it in, close the screw and let set over night. Then drain the carbs into a can. Close all the screws and let the gas pump cycle a couple of times and try that. Good luck And welcome !!
  23. Thank you guys ! I appreciate it.
  24. Anybody know the sequence ? Also, So I just leave the 2nd hose from the right rear disconnected too ? It's a 2001 Royal Star
  25. Hi guys I have synced the carbs on my 1st Gen several times so I understand that process. The 1st Gen has only one carb hose going up to the advance. The 2nd Gen I am bike sitting (riding ) sounds like it really needs the carbs synced. I noticed that there is the left front vacuum hose like the 1st gen, but there is also a 2nd vacuum hose on the right rear carb that disappears up to the top. Do I need to do anything different to sync a 2nd Gen than a 1st Gen ?
