  1. Thought this might be of interest, especially to the Patriot Guard Riders: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/05/22/biker-claims-old-glory-wind-resistance/
  2. That is what he is looking for is just the back muffler part. Do you think that would bolt on ?
  3. I know...making a 2nd Gen that fast with 1st Gen pipes might upset the gravitational pull and the earth's rotation, but this is a temporary emergency fix for a cross country rider.
  4. Anybody know if stock pipes off of an 89 1st Gen would fit on a 2009 RSV ?
  5. I have a pair of stock pipes from a 1989 1st Gen in my garage. You can have them if they would work. The gurus here would have to tell us if they would fit... I am down in Tucson. I also have a garage and tools to put them on if they will work..
  6. The best Ford truck forum is a Chevy Truck Forum ....just sayin'......lol
  7. 6 replies and no SeaFoam advice ??? You guys are slipping !! Go to search( above) look at bottom it shows Google change the dot to the Venturerider one Then search. This will only bring up threads on this site. Here is what you would find: ------------------------------------------- From YammerDan, our SeaFoam guru and Bi-Gen owner: A good soak will cure "most" carb problems. Here we go again. You will need: Sea-Foam: :Piece of fuel line about 18 inches long same size as on rear of fuel pump. About any cheap line will do. :1/2 Pint or so of fresh gas: :Set of small vise grips :Screwdriver to open drain plugs on carbs: :Container to mix Sea-Foam and gas. Mix about 2/3s can of Sea-Foam with about 1/3 fresh gas. I have done this with pure Sea-Foam but restarting is hard. I use vice grips to close off fuel line coming from tank because those old petcocks do not like to be messed with. Deal with that later but if your petcock works good just shut it off. If not here we go. Remove side panels to get at carbs. Find rear of fuel pump. On left of bike as you are sitting on it. Clamp off line going to rear of pump and rmove from pump. PLace your piece of line in it place. Leave for now. Take screwdriver and open all drain plugs and drain as much as you can from carbs. Drain screw is on bottom right corner of carbs as you face them on bike. Hopefully you will get something out of each carb. When you have them drained close them, Place line into Sea-Foam and turn on switch. You will hear fuel pump clicking. It should suck the Sea-Foam into the carbs. Let it cycle until you think carbs are full. Start bike and let it run a few minutes. Watch your mix and don't run out. When you are sure carbs are full of mix shut bike off. Rehook everything as it was. Don't restart now. Leave it sit at least overnight. I've left them 2 or 3 days. Won't hurt a thing probally helps. Draining carbs again before restarting keeps you from running a lot of crap thru engine and will cut down on neighbor complaints. When you restart it will Cough.Smoke,Fart, Belch,Sneeze and a few other things. This has cost me a set of plugs at times. It will bring stuff out of there that will scare you. But after you get the Sea-Foam out I BET it runs better. I have done this several times on stubborn bikes. Using Sea-Foam as recommended with prevent 95 per cent of carb problems. I have used other mixes for this but Sea-Foam is safe and will not harm carbs. I use a mix of BerryMans Chem Tech, Sea-Foam and gas on really dirty ones and have used pure Chem Tech. Get it at Wally World.
  8. And then there is this... http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2014/05/14/incredible-car-collection-uncovered-after-61-years/?intcmp=features
  9. Wow... this opens a sore spot for me... If I knew back when, what I know now about the cars I had... It would be cool... I had: 1957 4-door Chevy 1936 Chevy ( okay this one needed work) but complete except on tail light. 1966 Chevy Chevelle station wagon 1968 California Special Ford Mustang ( poor man's Shelby at that time) 1969 Mercury Cyclone with the 429 package 1966 MG convertible 1960 Dodge Seneca with the dash board push button auto transmission 1966 Buick Skylark but my best...I still have... my father purchased a 1960 GMC Suburban brand new. I have all the original documentation, sales receipt, window sticker, sales brochures etc. Being restored ( 6 year project so far) to a good driver as I type. Hoping the paint will be finished by this weekend. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=276787&highlight=1960+GMC+Suburban
  10. Thanks, there wasn't anything in the cap. I did remove the battery and can get to the front..the rear are another story. Since my new rear tire is on my non-running 87, which is already loaded on my bike trailer, I have decided to take it over to my dad's and use his tractor to lift the rear up and swap rear rims quickly. I will also check the 87 for the correct wire ends.
  11. So far the first one I removed doesn't have an o-ring. It will be interesting to see if the others have it. I guess I will take some off the 87 and see what it has. Are the o-rings a special Venture part, or do you think they are readily available at a parts place ?
  12. Here's a little information on it:
  13. Trying to keep track of how, and what order, things are coming apart... Finally removed the rear tire...PIA trying to get it past the piece that holds the rear caliper on. Finally got it past. Then I found out the new tire I got with the 87 is the front tire.. The new rear tire is on the 87 Ugh.... good news is I get a new front tire on since the front is already off..bad news is I am now rear tire hunting.. Something just isn't right with the plug connectors...wondering if that is/was part of my problem with gas mileage and performance..
  14. ..and I need you guys to have my back.... I have finally decided to undertake the removal of my rear tire for replacement...that means also lubing all the final drive stuff... I have printed off all the prior threads and hope it goes smooth.... I am also ..WHILE I AM IN THERE.... going to change out the plug wires and replace my carb diaphragms ..... SO... as I run into the unforeseen problems.. I will need the love and expertise :sun:from you Venture gurus... My first question is when replacing the plug wires, how do I get the wire screwed into the coil end ? There was only a screw cap on the end that I took off and when I tried screwing it back on the wire just pulled out. Also, any tricks to getting to the back two coils ? It looks like up under the fairing is the way to go, but I don't have to take the fairing apart do I ? Please say no ... please say no ...please say no... When I took the plug cap end apart, there was no ball bearing that I thought I had read about, only a spring thing with a white thing and two very, very tiny tiny brass looking things that went on each end of the white thing... (picture below...)
  15. Hey Welcome. You have the twin to my 89. When you join, PM me with an email address and I will email you a lot of info and step by step repair/maintenance items on these bikes that i have collected from this forum and converted to Word Docs. This forum is better than nay owners manual.
  16. Just bumping this for Brian....c'mon guys...somebody help him get back on the bike after his brutal accident and recovery...
  17. That is really cool.

    Why?

WHY....was this incredible thread all the way down to the 6th page...???? I was looking for another older thread and BAM...here is this educational thread all the way back to the 6th page and the threadkiller is still on the first page. So today's question is WHY doesn't the "Affordable Care Act" cover 2nd Gens and the serious issues that make them so much slower ?? WHY ???
  21. Yea..but all of my screws have been stripped out by previous owners/mechanics. I tried all types of screw drivers including an impact driver... the dikes worked when other stuff didn't...
  22. If we could mate the WHY ? thread with this now IT thread we would have a WHY is IT thread..... or would IT be a IT is WHY thread.... Hmmmmmm... just food for thought...
  23. This is crazy... unbelievable !!:shock3: http://survivalfirst.co/backflip-72ft-canyon/ .
  24. For anybody who reads this this thread one trick I learned from this forum is to use a pair of wire dikes and grab the head of the screw and twist. I have used that trick on many screws now on several bikes and it works like a charm.
