Okay..so I cleaned the cable and I think I found the problem which was a kinked cable housing. So I pulled and other on off of a parts bike and cleaned that one. Now the needle is "stuck" under the pin. Won't move in any direction. Next step ??? Do I have to pull the whole console out and take it apart ? I actually have a guy driving from Phoenix to look at it and was hoping to have this fixed .. No good deed goes unpunished.. I should have left it alone and sold it as is... UPDATE: Just took it for a spin and the odometer is working but the speedo is not ....;.

Thanks. I just got back from getting brake cleaner and cable lube...hope I do not have to take the whole speedo apart...

Hi guys, I am in the process of (sadly) selling my beloved 89. As a quick background I am buying a friends Stratoliner and had planned on keeping my 89 and actually have time to work on it and really try to get to all those "little" things .. Since I just "inherited" my son-in-laws 86 Venture, I can't keep all 3 bikes and my daughter can't part with his 86 right now. So I am going to fix his up and ride the Strat for now. Anyway, I was trying to do the right thing and get the bike ready for a new owner...and was starting to get that winter "speedo whine" again. I pulled out the lil greaser adapter that Golf & Venture had developed and greased the speedo as I have done before. Anyway, now my speedo is acting weird. At first it would not work, so I reinstalled the cable and checked it so that it was seated properly. Now after several tries, when I take it for a spin it flips very quickly all the way around and stays pegged on the wrong side of that little pin. If I disconnect it from the bottom and spin it with my fingers, it will return to the correct side of the pin, but after reassembly and test ride it spin back around. I have 3 people interested i seeing the bike and really need to get this corrected....HELP !! Any ideas ?

Thanks everybody. I probably need to find one in town and give it a test ride. This one is in Oklahoma and although I could back out at any time, I will fly in and then my friend and I are doing a road trip back to AZ. Originally I was going to fly in and ride it back, but he has to bring a trailer to Phoenix and also pick up his wife who will be at a work conference also in Phx. He loves it, but is just doesn't fit their current situation right now.

So.. Looks like there might be a change in my future. I have a friend that has a really nice 2006 Stratoliner with bags, upgraded Cobra pipes, Mustang seat. Just completely serviced. His life situation has changed and he offered me the bike for about 2-4 grand less than the going rate. I also now have my son-in-laws 1986 Venture Royale that we bought from 1Rooster several years ago. Since my son-in-law passed away 3 months ago ,we brought the 86 back to Arizona and she wants to keep it. I already have my 89, a complete 87 & 89 parts bikes and two 84 parts bikes. The 86 really needs some work on it. My thoughts at this point is to sell my 89, buy the Stratoliner and then spend my time repairing and rebuilding the 86. So, I have been reading up on them and they seem like a good bike. Just wondering if anybody can give me some personal insight.

I agree. That is exactly what happened to mine. I was able to correct my issue with the installation of a new air circulation maximizer adjusted to to the 1132 circuit value.

High speed cruise swimmy
KIC replied to garyS-NJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had a "swimmy" which is a good way of stating it. It started after I developed an issue with my CLASS system which allows my front forks to overfill when raising my rear shock pressure. One point it seemed to somehow blow fork oil out my rear CLASS inlet. I know this all sounds bizarre, but I found fluid draining from my CLASS. The "Swimmy " started after that and I chased different repairs until I connected the two events and decided to check my fork oil level, I had replaced my fork oil correctly when I installed my new Progressives. I was shocked at how low my right tube was compared to my left tube. Both were low, the right was very low. I added the correct amount in each one and the shimmy went away. I guess the "micro" difference in the tubes compression at speed allowed the front wheel to feel like it was on ice especially on a sweeping turn. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. -
The Tucson Area Venture group ( all 4 of us +spouses =8) are scheduled for a Southwestern night on Tuesday the 8th. Green chile mushroom cheese burgers, home made salsa and more...

I had a 2000 K1200 LT Beemer. It was a great bike. Especially on the freeway. More top heavy than the Venture. The forum guys used to say there were 2 types of K1200 owners, those who have taken a nap and those who will take a nap. The bike is just top heavy for tight slow speed turns. Trikes obviously will not have that problem. Those bikes were known to easily hit 200,000 miles The biggest problem I had was that it is isn't user/mechanic friendly and Beemer expensive. Just changing the oil was a pain. My 12,000 mile service cost me $1,100.00 But in all honestly, it was a better ride than the Venture on the freeway.

The clean pipe looks even better in person than the picture shows. Since I have to take my pipes off to change the rear shock, I am going to try that stuff... In fact since VidAZ did so well ..I might get him to show me how to have that much fun... ( see reading Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn wasn't a waste of time after all )

Parts list for fork seal replacement?
KIC replied to stanG's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You can also try this site for parts: http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/parts.html I have ordered parts with pretty good success. -
Dave, Haven't touched the bike yet. I did bring the part bike over that we picked up. So it is my house. I am really contemplating switching out the shock on the parts bike with my current one... scares the crap out of me to do it again...but contemplating it. That way I can change the clutch slave and find the oil leaks while the bike totally torn apart. That way when it never goes back together, we have another parts bike.. :rotfl:Also that bike has nice exhaust to put on your bike, Or you can have the ones I took off my 87.

So we had a group ride, our yearly Jericho Prayer Ride. The last portion of the ride is up to Mount Lemmon north of Tucson. As we ( my wife) and were 2nd from the front lead, I noticed the clutch was slowly disappearing. I manged to stay in 2nd the rest of the way. Once at our destination, it was gone. I pulled the cover off the handle bar reservoir and it was pretty full but there was fluid dripping on the left side in the area of the slave cylinder. I had rebuilt that several years ago. Luckily there was a back up vehicle with us who was able to give my wife a ride down as I chose to ride it down in 2nd. Just wanted to get as close to home as possible before I had to figure out a tow/haul the rest of the way. Actually got down the 15+ miles without a problem and was blessed with clear stop signs and perfect timing for green lights. 25 miles later I was home and only stopped once. Just finagled my way down streets missing lights or stop signs with traffic at them. So I check boats.com and they want $85.00 for a new clutch cylinder. Any place cheaper than that ? I haven't taken her apart yet to confirm were the leak is at, but that will be my guess. I have other ones off my parts bikes I can rebuild, but been there, done that.

So how did the night ride go ? -
That would work for me. also, I would like to extend an invitation if you would like to stay with us those days, we have plenty of rooms, a garage for the bike, tools for any service you want to perform and most important ( in Arizona summer) a POOL. Feel free to contact me if you are interested. Also we could have a BBQ at the house since the other two Venture Riders live close by..No VideoArizona will have a small trek to the house, but he's done it before.. Bill

I have 2 84 parts bikes if you need anything that will cross over. Here's the catch. Any parts you need are free. I live in Arizona but will be driving East to North Carolina between Dec 21-23. I will be puling a U-Haul. Now.. if there are parts that ( forks handle bars etc) will A: fit in the U-Haul after my daughter packs it up B: have someplace I can drop them off on the way to NC that you could eventually get them. I am heading up I-10 to I-20 to I-95. If something could work I will work with you on that.

Hence the numerous broken body parts... and I'm not talking about the bike(s)......

I remember when you did that...I loved being 19 again and able to go back and ask that cute blonde out after all...then you slowed down before she could answer.... I only needed 2 more minutes.... next go faster and LONGER... now back to the reality of life and old age...

Okay..Okay... time to come clean... You guys are soooooo predictable, and gullible, that I really couldn't help myself. The Corvette was just a picture I found online. I am really trying to ship my 2002 Trailblazer to my son. I don't need a enclosed trailer, they want over $2,000 for that. I am still looking for a reputable hauler though... Seems like a lot of nightmares about drivers holding cars for additional fees (ransom)at time of delivery..
