I'm sure he will call you. I think he has to change to Sunday if that will work. Schedule is kinda screwy right now. I'll make sure he connects with you ASAP. Thanks for your help in all this.

Thanks guys for all the great information ! The bike, unfortunately, is staying back in North Carolina. I will be back there and will prep it for storage since he will be extremely busy getting ready, both his unit and family. I will be buying his first year here on the forum since it will give him something to read when he has free time over there. He spent a lot of time on it while he was here reading all about the bikes. He is really excited about getting 1Roosters beautiful orange speed machine. Bummed that he can't ride it right away. I will be going back just before he returns so I can get it out of "storage". I will pass the thanks on, but I'm sure he will read them himself real soon.

Hi guys, So my son-in-law ,daughter and Grand Princess have been out here in Arizona on vacation for the last 3 weeks. Son-in-law is a Staff Sgt in the Army. He returned on Monday , went to work on Tuesday and was informed his unit was on emergency deployment and will leave in about 2 weeks. My daughter and Grand Princess stayed for a little longer visit. While he was here, we bought 1Roosters 1st Gen in North Carolina. He is going to pick it up this weekend. Our lives are in turmoil right now as we scramble to figure out logistics in getting my pregnant daughter and my Grand Princess back home to North Carolina ASAP and then move them out here in a couple of weeks until the 9-12 month deployment is over. The saddest part is that my son-in-law will not be here for the birth of his new daughter. I will be flying back there to drive their belongings back to AZ . The question is this: I have to prep his (1Roosters) bike for storage for 9-12 months. It will be in the garage. I will try to get all the gas out of the tank and would like to put a mixture in the carbs so they don’t gunk up. Anybody have a storage prep routine I can use ? I know this is a minor issue in the grand scheme of things right now.. ( the female emotions flowing in my house is a killer right now) , but I do not want the bike screwed up when he returns. I will be driving their stuff back right before he returns so I can get the bike out of storage mode. A little help for a deploying Hero ?

Congrats... I get my second Grand Princess in March. My first one that is visiting us right now from North Carolina is too precious. Tonight when my daughter asked if she wanted to be a tiger for Halloween, she said "No". The added "Papa you could be a Hippo " Either I need to go on a diet, or she needs to spend less time at the zoo.

Uh Oh..the last person who talked about a million miles ....well.... all %$#* broke loose... Just sayin.... -
Thanks Cowpuc ! I am blessed !! That Lil Grand Princess admittedly has me wrapped around every finger and toe ! AND... in February I get another Lil Grand Princess to spoil when her sister comes. She will be able to ride some more since I just bought 1Rooster's 86 First Gen for her Dad today. She will be bugging him everyday !

I have always sat her on it and since she was very little we have played "motorcycle" on my knee with her holding my thumbs like a motorcycle handlebar while bouncing around making revving noises and once in a while "crashing" onto the couch. This is the first time she was here visiting and big enough to sit on it.

So, I finally caught a break ( from wife and daughter) and was able to take my 3 year old around the block today during their visit from North Carolina. Yes I know..no helmet, flip flops... but it was 1st gear and in a safe neighborhood. She LOVED it !! Now all I hear is " Papa I want to ride on the bike... Papa lets ride the bike !"

I raced dirt track back in the early 80's. The set up for the car is to turn by sliding on the dirt/clay. There is mud on the front screen, there is mud on your visor, you are looking beyond the car in front of you to watch for issues and if you are still racing, the absolutely last thing you are looking for is a guy in a black race suit running towards your car. My understanding is that they were still racing towards the yellow. Standard racing procedure. You can't brake or turn in an avoidance manner when racing on dirt/clay tracks. The absolute stupidest thing you can do is run out on a track in the middle of a race. Remember ,there was a car in front of Stewart that almost hit the kid. That car could have most certainly blocked Stewart's view of the kid until it was too late. And it is correct that accelerating is the best way to turn..you sure as heck won't get very far trying to brake. This is tragic. But it was the kid's stupidity that led to the issue. I remember a few scuffles in the pits...but you NEVER take out in the track. Locals HATE it when a Pro comes and races on their track and steals the points. That can screw up some serious hard work the locals have been working for. They get real sensitive about that and the kid really should have stayed in his car.

Thanks for the prayers. We need the water, but a little at a time..

Being a weatherman ( or girl) is the one job that you can be wrong all of the time and still keep your job. I just spent 7 weeks TDY in Maryland and flew home last night. The weather channels and news reports had Tucson flooding out big time, yesterday and today. Today was supposed to be a gully washer 2-3 inches today alone (That's a lot for our dry area) The Weather Channel had somebody out here doing live shots since early this morning.. nothing..light drizzle this morning and just clouds. I needed to run some errands so after 7 weeks of Venture withdrawal...at 3:30pm this afternoon, I rode the Venture... Thanks weatherman for being so wrong... ( so far) :happy65:

New Venture owner with a fork question
KIC replied to yamahale's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ditto on the progressive springs. Made an incredible difference in my 89. Also get a heavy duty front fork brace. Again, it made a big difference. Disassemble the top head bearings and grease and then re-tighten...make sure there are no cables or wires that get stuck in behind while reassembling.. (don't ask me how I know..) I have attached a document that might help. Also, here is a link to my thread as i did mine: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65735&page=6 Good Luck ! -

These bikes are not light and easy to move/load. you would probably end up trashing the plastic trying to make two fit tight on/in something. borrow a bigger trailer..it would be worth it.

#2 & #4 not firing below 2000 RPM
KIC replied to venturesome's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Also, just check the plug wires. There is a thread or two that explain how to check them resistance and corrosion. I would post the info but I am TDY in Maryland and do not have my "Venture Library" available to look through. Here is a thread with some good info: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=82832 -

Here is some threads you can read about the 89 and below is what I was told when I was buying mine. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1066 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=65735&page=23 Originally Posted by skydoc_17 file:///C:\Users\JOHNKO~1\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.gif Hey KIC, Welcome to the VR.ORG Forum, you're home brother! The 1989 VR is the last year of the "Old Style" TCI in 1990, Yamaha went to the "improved version". This should not be a problem, plenty of them out there! (1984 to 1989 all fit) Check all three brake rotors for "bluing", which means that they have been overheated from a dragging Caliper. The left front and rear Rotor are not available from Yamaha any more, and were spendy when they were. This bike is also the last year that came with the "Two Brush" starter motor. 1990 to 1993 had the "4 brush starter". Run the bike for a while, shut it off, and try to restart it. If the starter drags, you will need to address this issue once you have purchased it. I have seen these bikes get 300,000 miles with proper care, so at 65,000 miles I would have a good close look at the front fork seals, (thin, black oil ring above the lower aluminum fork tube) be sure to check BOTH tubes! Also steering head bearings will start to be an issue at this mileage point, check them closely. Check the coolant overflow bottle which is located under the "door" above the CB Radio on the upper right side of the fairing. If the bottle is empty, then you have a "weeper" coolant system. Have a close look at the "fish eye" glass in the front Brake and Clutch Master Cylinders, if the fluid is not clear like water, (cola colored) then this service you speak of that was done 2K ago, is BS! Since you can't see into the rear Master Cylinder, I would "draw" a sample of the brake fluid from the rear reservoir and check the color. (looking for clear color here) Remove the false tank cover and remove the fuse box lid, if any fuses are missing, or are "jumpered" with wire, then this is a major issue, but can be repaired. Remove the air box cover and check the air box for engine oil in the bottom of the box, and bugs and dirt in the air filter folds. Put the bike on the center stand and roll both tires, listening for dragging calipers and dry bearings. Sit down behind the rear of the bike, and hold on to the chrome side bag guard, and place your right foot on the rear tire. (bike in 1st gear helps) Push side ways on the tire firmly, you are looking for the tire and swing arm to move sideways, meaning the swing arm bushings and or bearings are shot! If this bike has spent most of it's life in AZ., then it has seen some pretty high coolant temps. Look under the water pump, at the weep hole, (right side of bike, in front of and below the foot brake) for signs of anti-freeze staining or leakage. While you are there, look at the front of the water pump where the "Elbow" exits the water pump and turns left to the Thermostat Housing, MAKE SURE that the engine crash bar has not cut a gash in this plastic elbow! If there is a gash on the plastic elbow, then most likely, this bike has been down on the right side at some point. Check right side fairing corner for cracking. With the bike on the center stand, start the bike and let it run until the electric fan comes on. If the temp gage gets close to the red area with no fan turn on, (fan should come on at 3/4 on temp gage+/- a bit) then this bike has been ridden HOT in stop and go traffic. While on the right side of the bike, look below the water pump for the "oil level sight glass". With the bike not running, the oil level must be half way up the sight glass. If the oil level is too high and there is no oil level line, then don't return to the dealer that did the 2K service. If the sight glass is so "foggy" that you can't see the oil level at all, this is a sign that the oil changes have been neglected. Everything mentioned here can be corrected. The point of this inspection is to see if the current owner is being honest with you about the condition of the bike. If everything checks out OK, with NO broken plastic, then this is a $3500.00 bike. If you can't see the oil level, it has at least one blued rotor, the water pump elbow has a gash in it, and the right side fairing has damage at the corner, and the coolant overflow bottle is dry, then this is an $800.00 bike, and will be a $2700.00 bike when you repair everything. Because the owner wants to sell this motorcycle, he/she will say "anything" to make the sale. Print this sheet off, check everything mentioned, deduct for the issues found, and if he is still firm on the price once you have proved that the 2K service is BS. Then WALK AWAY! In my honest opinion, paying $800.00 for an 89'VR and putting $1700.00 into it to cherry it out is a "fun winter project"! Paying $3500.00 for the same bike and putting $1700.00 into it just to get it to stop and go properly is getting RIPPED OFF! My thoughts, for what they are worth. Again, welcome to the VR.ORG forum KIC, you've got some "homework" to do my friend. Earl

Probably just a couple of 1st Gens trying to get you to come to your senses and get a 1st Gen. They are not just faster, they can subconsciously talk to you...just sayin'..

Help! Put in new diaphragms - dies at idle
KIC replied to tz89's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Did you re-sync the carbs ? you might have corrected something and now the idle adjustment might need adjusting and he carbs synced together. That is where I would start. I had to re-sync mine after new diaphragms. Just a thought
