Dan, although many say that I have brain damage I have more real experience with my 2 children. My son was jumped from behind and severely beaten even while unconscious to the point of severe seizures and the call I received bassically said get to the hospital he wouldn't survive. ( He was jumped over a misunderstanding that he wasn't involved in) He was in the 11th grade at the time (2003). Original diagnoses was a concussion. Fast forward to 11/30/2009 - My Hero daughter was in Afghanistan as a MP and her MRAP hit a 200lb IED. She survived with back injury and a Traumatic Brain Injury. As I feverishly researched what a TBI was and what they knew about them really surprised me. Although, each individual injury can be different, the basics are that there are 3 "triggers" that can affect someone emotionally that can also affect them physically. There are two areas of injury or issue. Physical is severe headaches and insomnia. The second area, emotional usually involves the following 3 issues: Anxiety, Frustration and Anger. Each emotion can be, and is, triggered by each other. Anxiety can easily lead to anger or frustration, Frustration can lead to anger and/or anxiety and anger can lead to anxiety and or frustration. Of course, another side issue is the PTSD that can come along with the injury. In 2009 they are were still learning about the injury since the Iraq war did not have as many head injury survivors. Until they obtained armored vehicles most of the result of hitting an IED in Iraq was death. Once they got armored vehicles more Heroes survived, but suffered TBI's. They have found that TBI's are also more common in car accidents and in the NFL and boxing. During a large impact the brain neurons can be severed which is what can cause the above issues.These neuron paths can be retrained to take another avenue through therapy. As I researched my daughter's case in 2009, I realized that the symptoms and medical issues matched my son's issues to a "T". His anxiety was off the wall which lead to the anger/frustration issues. His dependency on anxiety medication was at a high level. When he lost his engineering job ( and medical benefits) to the economy, his issues led him to searching for anxiety medicine on the street. He could not function without it. He is now 2 years sober from all drugs except the correct diagnosed meds that have helped him become the great young man he was. He now works 2 jobs including one in addiction recovery helping others in need. My daughter is still recovering and although most who meet her, and do not know her story, would think she is "normal". She struggles every day dealing with the 3 triggers of anger, frustration and anxiety. One day at a time. Anyway, knowing some of your work background, if you EVER had a severe head blow or injury, research the TBI issue and see if it matches your symptom/issues. My Hero daughter, her MRAP , Daughter and Hero son-in law and Grand Princess and my son and girlfriend at Grand Canyon yesterday. I be a lucky, lucky guy....

Today we were able to complete a PGR Mission that did not end with a tear, condolences or a heavy heart ! We were asked to surprise a 90 year old WWII Veteran at his 90th birthday party. The only Mission Orders were be LOUD !! VARRoooom. We showed up (about 20 bikes) with flagged bikes and trikes. Walter even went for ride on a trike around his neighborhood! Our group always sings "I'm proud to be an American" (Lee Greenwood's song) before we start, this time they asked that we wait until we get there and include Walter. What a smile he had !! He was then presented with a plaque, flag and handmade quilt. AND.... since he went for a ride, they presented him with a PGR First Mission pin ! Anyway, it was just cool to have a Happy Mission for a change.

I wondered about doing something like that. Having already taken one off my parts bike, which I could lay over on it's side and not worry about any damage to the bike, it really is a PIA. I thought about cutting the bottom off while on the bike and re-welding it while it was still on the bike.

Thanks Dan. That might be worth a try. I have those pliers, bought a set a couple of years ago and actually used it twice yesterday on the bike while syncing the carbs and greasing the speedo. Those are a Venture owners best friend (besides you ). I will give it a try. Thanks.

So, after giving away a good exhaust collector, my 89 decided to develop the "rattle". It is very noticeable when first started and cold. Does this have any actual performance or type of impact on the bike other than the annoyance level ? I have another one on my other parts bike, but that one was a *&^%& to try to get out and I gave up one time. I can work on getting that one out and cut open/fixed and welded before I take my 89 apart and then just swap. I am just wondering if the piece that is rattling can cause an issue. I thought I read one time that it can block the exhaust flow.. Also, an 84 should be the same as the one on the 89, correct ?

But you have a 1st Gen, so your "oops" are just small in comparison....

And I'm talking about putting your year and type of bike in your personal header.... It helps the rest of us know what year your bike is, so that the input can be specific to the year and type of bike. You don't have the year of your bike in your header So I will answer on how my 89 1st Gen was doing that until I disconnected the electric to the front forks that engaged while braking, and sucked a lot of electric current.

So last night I had an opportunity to go to a Men's Bible Study at a new church that my wife and I have started attending. It is a real bike oriented church that has a motorcycle ministry, does a yearly Blessing of the Bikers event ( had 116+ bikes two weeks ago) prayer rides etc. So I'm the new guy sitting there with a bunch of guys, almost all ride, ( and mainly Harleys) and we are discussing some of the "actions" of Jesus. One guy made the comment " You know, Jesus was a really cool dude ! I could see him buzzing around on a Harley having a great time doing his thing" A thought immediately crossed my mind and I lightly chuckled, unfortunately it was loud enough for others to hear so they turned to me to hear what I had to say.. I had no choice but to say what I thought so it didn't seem that I was laughing at the "BIG" guy at the end of the table. So I said... " I was thinking that if Jesus rode a Harley it would be the first "healed" and perfect Harley with no parts falling off" They all looked at me, then he responded " And NO oil leaks ! " Dodged that bullet......

Just do what needs to be done. We will adapt, live through it and survive. The 1st Genners will obviously do it all faster, but eventually the 2nd Genners will show up and be happy, and although we might have to get a trailer or two to pull the Hardly guys along, it will all work out in the end and will be soon forgotten. ( except by you and your wife)

I am going to help a friend sort out some front end demons on his 2000 or 2001 (I forget) RSV. Since we are taking the fairing off to check the triple tree etc I have him convinced to put in Progressive springs. Then I started wondering if the 2nd Gen needs progressives or if they even sell them. So, does it need the upgrade like a 1st Gen does ? If so, what/where is the best place to get what he needs ? Inquiring minds want to know...

Did you use the angle ones all the way around ? Which ones did you use for the straight ones ?

I had been chasing carb problems for a while. I replaced diaphragms with the typical holes in them with new ones. The problem continued to some degree with a slight popping at a steady throttle hold, hard cold starting, crappy gas mileage and a bad gas smell in the garage after riding. Long story made short, The new diaphragms were not sealing correctly. After carefully reinstalling them, one of them took 3 times, I got them to properly seal. Now, I am in love with the bike all over again. It actually scared me when I took it for a ride after fixing it, I jumped on it and it took off like a rocket ! I spun the tire shifting into 2nd. This was last Sunday and I have ridden the bike everyday and had a bike smile on my face ever since ! Be sure your carb diaphragms are perfect.

WELL....watch me break into my happy dance :cool10::cool10: When I started I had 1 slider that seemed to be working. Took the rear two apart and reassembled. Ended up with only two working. Took the two right side apart ( 1 for the second time) and reassemble had 3 1/2 working. The right rear was trying to work but not equal to the other three. Decided to switch rear to front and see if it was the slider/diaphragm or the carb. The slider in the rear after switching, was working fine and the rear set up that I moved to the front was still fighting to work. Massaged the diaphragm carefully while placing the cover back on since after careful inspection it seemed that the diaphragm was not correctly sealing in the grove. After several tries and finite massaging I got it to seal. It seems that even thought they were new diaphragms, 3 of them were not seating correctly. now they are ! Took her for a spin and WOW.... it has never...ever been this fast since I have had her. I actually kinda scared myself when I opened her up the first time. Then I spun the rear tire shifting into second when I made the right turn and accelerated. :shock3: Then my turned into (happy dance) I can't wait to take her out tomorrow and really give it a spin.

I was looking at my carbs since I am on the never ending search for getting rid of the infamous garage gas smell and lousy gas mileage. I am trying to upload a video as to what I found. When I started the bike, and yes it ran like crap without the air filter on, I noticed that only 1 of the slides was moving. The front left was "fluttering" and the other 3 sat there looking like they needed a good dose of Viagra. I took the slides out of two of the rear carbs and could not find any issues. I just put the two rear back together and started the bike and now the left front and the left rear are "fluttering" and the two right side are just sitting there. Also, isn't there a certain 'o'clock" position the "hole in the end of the slide is supposed to be in ? I am recalling the 2 o'clock position but I have not been able to locate where I read that before. I have included a picture of one of the slides to make sure I put them back together when I put the new diaphragms in. I had also added the thicker white nylon washers I bought from someone on this site ( ECK? ) anyway I hope this video loads.. The video wouldn't load correctly.
