  1. A good installer should have no issues with the shape of your fenders...they can cover car mirrors and some pretty intricate hoods and bumpers on cars. Just sayin.
  2. OH yeah well I just read a few posts from guys with the same issue on Gen2's so...so...so there! Ha...told you didn't I..........
  3. My seat cover is in perfect condition EXCEPT for a split just forward of the seam where it meets the battery cover/false tank. Has anyone found a product to repair these?
  4. I've read some old posts about this subject but wonder if there is something newer I've missed. To use my brake pedal, I have to raise my foot up off the footboard which does not provide much control of the brake pressure being applied. This is because the pedal is too far back. I'd like to be able to keep my heel on the board and the only solution I see is to lengthen the pedal three or four inches. Anyone out there have a different solution?
  5. Everyone is a cowboy/girl during The Stampede!!
  6. If you get caught in a heavy downpour, try to stay away from the tire "troughs" on blacktop as they tend to fill up. As for standing water...don't squeeze the bars too hard (some folks tend to stiffen up and white knuckle). If you've ever ridden in soft sand or snow (dirt bike?), the same rules more or less apply...let her go where she wants to go and keep the front wheel pointed in the direction you're moving. Stay off the brakes and decelerate smoothly...as was mentioned earlier...no sudden moves. I've had the pleasure of hydroplaning for a very short distance and it's not a scary as most think...you have new tires so it would have to be quite deep to cause that to happen. PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) goes a long way.
  7. Thanks Guys!
  8. Yup...done! Here she is!
  9. Yeah...make sure you tell them you're a VR member to get your discount.
  10. Well I finally got her back together, certified and registered (new plate) and got her out for the shakedown ride this evening. I was like a little kid...so exited, I was about three click from home when I realized I didn't have the mirrors installed. Back home I went..got em on and back out again. Only two concerns; 1) a slight miss but I know I'll have to sync the carbs (new diaphragms installed). 2) she was wandering very slightly at highway speeds and I'm wondering if I need to tweak the air pressure in my new Kenda Kruz's. When I got home I was checking her over and found that the fork brace was only finger tight (DOH!!!) so that's likely the problem there? I'll find out tomorrow on the way to work. Will try to post pics tomorrow. Heroes Highway ride Saturday...woohoo!
  11. Exactly right Squidley...the very worst thing you can do to a new/rebuilt engine is run at a set rpm for extended periods. Drive your car like you have a Yoyo tied to your big right toe!
  12. Were those pics taken anywhere near Salmon Arm? That is some beeeuuutiful country!!
  13. I had Kenda Kruz (K673) on the Virago and loved them so much I bought a set for the Venture but have yet to try them out. This is a much heavier bike so time will tell. I found they gave me alot of confidence...great in all weather conditions.
  14. I think you're referring to the air inlet "clamps"...mine does not have the class system and since I removed the air hoses and clamps, I was able to move the triple clamp down on the fork but you can only gain about 1/2" because the top of the tubes contact a fairing/dash clip on both sides. If you were to modify and remove these clips, you still would not gain more that 1/4" or so. I'm doing all I can to gain whatever I can cuz I'm 5' 4". (don't you say anything Snaggletooth)
  15. John, If your carb boots are cracked and causing even the slightest vacuum leak you will never get her dialed in. You will have to replace those boots before you do anything else bro!
  16. If I'm not mistaken the auto cancel is built into the flasher so you don't loose the featuee if you keep the OEM flasher. If the LEDs don't work, the resistors will allow you to keep the OEM flasher.
  17. Thanks Carl and Dano...I plan to glue a peice of rubber same size as the OEM one and not tie it. On another note, I bought a vacuum bleeder kit at Princess Auto today after spending several hours trying to bleed the linked front/rear. Had I known how easy this makes the job, I would have bought it before starting.
  18. Well she's coming along more slowly than I'd like (life gets in the way sometimes:o)
  19. I'm green with envy...congrats!
  20. OK...now I know and I won't loose sleep over it!! Thanks guys!
  21. I'm at a loss regarding the mounting of the left cowling! There is a mount tab at the bottom rear that does not match any mounting point on the frame??? It's in line with the removable brace which goes across the side of the engine but there aint nuthin there to bolt to. The left cowling and front "tie-in" were missing when I bought her. Help!!
  22. You said it chabicheka...at the end of the day, you're the one who rides it and ya gotta be happy with what's between yer legs!
  23. Awright... finally have the paint done (other that fixing a couple runs in the clear). Re-assembly time...woohoo!!! Photos don't do it justice but whadayall think of the colour?
