appreciate the replies. Using them and materials I had on hand, things worked out relatively ok. Used a safety pin to release the Molex brass connectors (nipped off the tip of the needle). Cleaned the brass connectors with fine steel wool and methyl hydrate and the nylon connectors with mh & Qtips. Coated the brass connectors with Permatex diaelectric grease. I removed the brass connectors together to get at the green crud at the bottom of the nylon connector. Attached a few before and after pics. (hopefully the headlight doesn't turn off when I throw the 4w )

Doing a little maintenance on the 87' this aft, dismantled the fairing, and found this corroded wiring harness connector to the 4w Hazard switch. I've never had one this bad and not quite sure where to begin without damaging contacts. Looking for any suggestions to clean the oxidization properly and best type of grease, if any, to use after cleaning. The female end is just as bad.

Great idea Don as we're preparing for 'dewinterization'. Got up this AM to -12c / 11f and 3 fresh inches of the white stuff. when will it end? whatever happened to global warming? We planned to cage it to the Toronto bike show today, but that isn't going to happen.

I've had good luck with e3s. 2up, full bags, half twisty half slab. Currently have about 30,000km/18,700mi on them. There's about 3 ml center tread and they're showing signs of slight cupping. I could squeeze a few 1000mi more, but they'll be replaced with e3s next month.

exc thread .. wife and I ran the Ashville - Blowing Rock leg last summer. We enjoyed it to the point of deciding to do the entire BRP this summer. (it was her idea) So, from New Orleans across Fl panhandle and north to BRP is the plan to date. Don't have much more to add that's already been said. I had booked this thread from VenturousRandy's thread some time ago. any info is good info. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/watering-hole/88377-bumpy-blue-ridge-parkway.html?highlight=blue+ridge#post860661 Man, it's been a long hard winter. Almost warm enough in the garage to light up the ol' 87.

GPS location and mount for 1st Gen
Max replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Don, can't attach pic to pm replies. The wiring harness is bundled and rests on the left side of the airbox. The foam wrap buffers vibration and keeps everything in place for the most part. It looks a little bulky in the pic but it's actually an easy fit. Bob's suggestion to wire to acc panel is probably better than my wiring directly to battery with an inline fuse. -
GPS location and mount for 1st Gen

I used the stick-on disc with suction cup going on 4 years. Works ok and doesn't interfere with gauge vis. Issues over that time, had to replace defective power cable once and the suction cup came loose twice. Probably separated because I let the rubber cups dry out over 2-3 months. Lucky that the power cable kept the GPS from totally disconnecting both times for inevitable road kill. -
might have to take a little time off here for a while

a couple of options to consider depending on your proximity to your phone company central office : what some phone companies don't care to advertise is the option of an internet DSL 'dry loop'. in other words internet only over copper wire cable pair from the phone jack connected to modem/router via a regular phone cord. there shouldn't be a charge for using their copper facilities, just internet. copper 2w pairs support full DSL, again, if your near a phone company office. They can determine if DSL available by your zipcode. You can also keep or connect a landline to that configuration. Most phone companies have less costly DSL plans dependng on download/upload bandwidth packages. there might be free antennae TV available depending on your location, as an example over this way.. Free Toronto Digital/HDTV Channels best of luck. -
Must be the air around here. On that note, we once had a move with a couple of months overlap and used the local movers trailer to store our stuff. Might be an option. Good luck.

A group of us ice fishing stayed here a couple of years ago. It's located on Lake Drive in Jacksons point. I believe they had a cottage rental and private rooms available. As I remember, they're rates were quite reasonable. Might be worthwhile to contact them for a monthly rate if time limitations get tight. http://www.whisperinginn.com/

You could checkout "Free YouTube to MP3 Converter Studio 8.4" software. Downloads any YT file (single or playlists) and separates them into mp3 & mp4 format. Most files over 360p are close to cd quality. Easy enough to transfer a few hundred mp3 files to a 2g flash drive. As in canned cable music, there maybe infringement rights here. Never had issues for personal use only.

Glad you walked away m'man, could have been a lot worse. I'm also following this thread if it's possible to identifiy any mechanical or otherwise issue, of course when your feeling better.

Thanks for the generous offer Donny. We've been contemplating winters south of the the 30*th for years. Good chance that will happen next winter with vr in tow. Easy detour to Hamilton (Troy's) will be in the cards. Will keep in touch.
