  1. the weather forcast for houston saturday is 20% but maybe the la riders will chime in as how the rain chances are as we get closer to saturday. don c.
  2. yep i know it's suppose to be raining here saturday but will see. had not planed on a rain-out day. but i guess we could plan on october 2 as the rain out date, if anyone's still interested. don c.
  3. the driving instructions from houston (i-10 east) are: drive to lafayetta take lafayetta/ us hwy 90 exit 103a stay to right thru lafeyetta twards new iberia. at la-14 exit & turn left go under over pass. stay to right at la-329 juction turn right stay on la-329 ( about 15 miles ) you will dead end at the toll both at avery island follow the signs to the plant & tour. don c.
  4. i am not sure of a tech article on doing this but maybe i should. the reason to do it is to allow the traped air to escape from around the filler neck tube and top of tank. if you take off the gas cap and look down the fill tube, you will notice the tube extends down ward in to the tank at least 1" or more. by punching the 2 holes in the filler neck it will allow the traped air to escape and more gas in. don c.
  5. go granny go don c.
  6. i always top my fuel tank off. even have punched 2 holes in the fill neck to pack more fuel in. never had the problem your talking about. don c.
  7. hi folks just spent the day on the road to lafayetta and avery island. what a day. from the flying j truck stop at i-10 east exit 789 ( thompson road ). were i suggest any one from the houston area meet up at( 7:00am leave at 7:30am ) it's just over 200 miles and almost 4 hours one way, (now these times and milage are to the parking lot ) at the tobasco plant on avery island. now i suggested we meet up with any louisianna riders at the tobasco plant. if we leave the flying j at 07:30 am that will put us getting there around 11:00 am. now i know we will have to stop and get gas around (exit 64) jennings, la. about 150 miles from houston. everyone should be able to make jennings, but if not the first gas stop will be at (exit 43). now the tour is real short, there is a film they want you to watch first ( they give you two little bottles of tobasco free. they have a gift shop where you can sample (free) the different hot sauce(s) and different products. now some of the other(free samples) you get to try is a hot sauce flavored :225:ice cream and cola, now that was very interesting. they do have a little chuck wagon set outside the gift shop under these HUGE old live oak trees. now this chuck wagon has boudin $3.00, sausage $3.00, beans and rice w/ sausage $4.00, and a few other things. once we meet up at the island we can decide were we want to eat at. all i saw after the turn off onto la hwy-14 from hwy-90 and before la hwy-329 is 1. a waffle house 2. a chillie's 3. a ruby tuesday now there is a $1.00 fee to go to the island THE ROAD PAST THE TOLL HOUSE IS CRUSHED ROCK, BUT IT'S PACKED DOWN GOOD. i was told we can park anywhere. hope this helps, i do not think i left anything out. but i'am an old man and have been on vacation for a whole week. one day i be able to retire. i any one got any questions give me a shout. don c.

  14. hi kenny now thats going to be a good one. i had thought of just meeting at avery island, around 12:00- 1:00 pm. i have a freind who has told me it's about a 3-1/2 drive for them from houston to lafaytte. then another 30-45 minutes to st.martinville. so i'am figureing about 1:00 pm at avery island. if ya'll have any other suggestions / ideas of somewhere to meet before heading to avery island. please put it out here. my understanding is the tobasco plant tour stops at 4:00 pm. that's way i suggested just to meet at the island. don c.
  15. hi all the little ride to avery island is still on for next saturday the 26th. now for anyone going to ride from houston. we will meet at the flying j truck stop at exit 789 east bound i-10. belive this is also the mt. belviue exit. flying j is on the right as you exit, you will have to turn right at the light. i plan on being there at 7:00 am top off gas, pottie break, etc will be leveling a 7:30 am as we have a few miles to go. should be at avery island around 12:00 noon if all goes well. don c.
  16. seaking you are right. you pay the dealership good money to have techs work on your bike. your are trusting them with your bike and and your life, once you leave the dealership. yes it may only been seat hold down nuts this time but what else could he/ they forgot to double check. case in point i have a friend who has a bmw m/c. he had taken the bike to the dealer to do a service check. the dealer is about 50 miles from where he lives, so when he picked up the bike got to do a little ride in to go home. he has to ride in mixed traffic on a interstate hwy. he gives me a call after he gets home and is fighting mad. the tech who had worked on his bike had NOT torqued the bolts on the front disk brake calpiers. one of the bolts was missing and the other bolt was almost complety backed out on one side. the other side they were loose. now what would have happened if the brake calpers had come apart at speed or in a panic stop 'cause of traffic. the moral of this story like yours, WE TRUST THE TECH'S. sorry if i responed in my first post in a light hearted manner. best reguards don c.
  17. thanks carl will have to do that next year with you guys. i'll have the vacation time all built back up by then. ya'll be carefull and have fun, see ya on the road some where. best reguards don c.

  19. hi dale there is always another day to play. family got to take care of family first. hope to see you next weekend september 26, at the ride to avery island. i will be bering my two mini air pumps to show you, one is the progessive type like you posted about ( it's more for the rear shock and toping off the tire pressures.) the other one looks like a large syringe but it's only for adjusting the front fork air pessure. best reguards don c.
  20. when your doing the carb synch, per the instructions here in the tech section. says to set the idel at 950-1050 with a warmed up engine. now seafoam is ok but bg's 44k is even better. kind of pricey but well worth it. don c.
  21. buddy rich is right, i have read where others don't have the seat bolted down either. don c.
  22. hi folks well the mini-mx is over with. i had a great day, some good home cooking. even got some mx done with kabay's & kelly's assiatance. now someone left blood all over kell's bike but i'am not going to say who. meet two of kelly's friends who ride also, one is talking about going on the "BEND" ride in november. kelly and him are talking about camping out. (lowell you may have some company) kelly's other friend is thinking about the ride. no pictures this time, the houston bunch camera guy forgot the you know what. but he would have got blood all over the camera anyway. ready to do some more carb tune's and driveshaft lube's. when ponch gets back from his and littlbit's vacation, will be doing kelly's carb float level check. more to follow. best reguards don c.
