It's tempting.... but, I've been told that unless you are a US citizen, getting permanent full time employment is very difficult. Otherwise I probably would have already moved far enough south to have winter much shorter and milder than what I put up with now.

Mine cost $287 for 3 months; or I believe it was $870 something if I wanted to be stupid enough to insure it for a full year. I don't believe in giving our provincial gov't insurance premium when I am not using the bike.

I guess using the same plastic molds for 40 years cuts down on manufacturing costs. Must be why Harley's are sooo "cheap".

I have an '86, how much do you want for the trailer hitch?
-
Freebird, I just checked my subscription and it shows that I'm paid up till 2011. I was sure I paid for 1 year and not 2, could you check your records to verify. I want to keep it fair for all. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to this great site.

oil filter options..
Stanman replied to painterman67's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have had a mechanic tell me he has seen a where a Fram filter completely broke down and plugged oil galleries in the engine with paper, thus destroying the engine. This was a reasonably recent occurrence. He says Fram filters are not as good as they once were. Use of these was NOT recommended. -
Gonna show how stupid I am......

Cruise Control Issues
Stanman replied to BJB's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My '86 acted similar to this when I got it. What seemed to work on mine was I had to clean the sensor that is mounted on the back of the speedometer. The sensor is in a small rectangle plug with 2 wires going to it above where the drive cable enters. Carefully remove the sensor from the housing and clean off the dust with a soft cloth then re-install. Mine has been working like a charm since I did this. If this does not work I have a nearly new cruise control module with about 100 miles on it I tried before cleaning the sensor. I paid $100 for it and I'd let it go for half that. -
I think that would be a great idea!! Have you got a when and where in mind?

What do you want for the highway pegs? Could you post a pic them?

Night riding on the interstates -- what's the big deal?
Stanman replied to Dave77459's topic in Watering Hole
I think moose are much harder to see at night than deer because they are nearly black and their eyes do not "glow" in the headlights. These animals are big enough to be a major threat regardless of the vehicle your driving. -
I am hoping to make Pork in the Pines, but the timing might not be any good with work. Other than that I would like to do a bit of riding with with some local members.

Sorry to hear about that Yammer. The wind blew mine over once too. It is amazingly easy to tip these machines over while sitting on the center stand!! If you don't believe me, very carefully try it sometime. I did. It takes a lot less effort than one would think! They are much more stable on the side stand.

I must completely agree with the above members as I have also had the misfortune of meeting vehicles with their high beams on in daylight. Obviously these "intelligent" drivers have no clue that high beam headlights on any vehicle are just as blinding during the day as they are at night. It boggles my mind that some of the same people that promote safer driving use such a dangerous practice. I fully understand wanting to increase your visibility, but, PLEASE use more lights, not brighter lights.

Honda has released their own "production chopper"
Stanman replied to AmnChode's topic in Watering Hole
Quite true, but I wouldn't spend a plug nickel for either one. (I like my Venture). -
I don't like them, they certainly win the ugly award. The only good point would be to take the engine for building a go cart.

That's what I think every winter. I hate cold weather with or without snow.

I have sent the RLAP 5 DVD to gunkylump. The thing that surprised me the most on the DVD was applying a little rear brake and a bit of power to the rear wheel will tend to hold the bike upright. I think I am going to buy a copy for myself because I won't remember enough of it come spring.
