We test rode about everything before buying a 11 venture, I was actually sold on a BRP Spyder by a guy at work. After the test ride my wife said the Venture was far more comfortable. She is 5'10" and has had back and neck surgeries, the only thing she has commented on is the height of the floorboards...

The hum is likely caused by a ground loop. Two or more items are grounded and the distance from the ground is different. AM is subject to noise, it is the way an ole timer could tell a storm was on the way, you can actually hear the static from the storm on the am radio.

Agree on the J&M, we have a set we bought about 15 years ago used on our first gen and now have an RSV, work as if new.

I just wish someone here had an opinion.

First I do wear protective gear almost, but not everytime I ride. I remember a surgeon who was performing a double fusion on my wife's back. My mother in law did / does not like that we ride and she asked him if he rode a motorcycle. He replies yes and then a helmet discussion took place. He said he wouldn't wear one. She asked why and he said because I work on people who wear them. Again it's personal choice. Next on statistics, they lie. Case in point a man has a drink with dinner and then drives home. He stops at a red light and is rear ended by a sober driver. On the accident report you check that he has been drinking and this is an alcohol related accident. Years ago they put a box on accident forms about seat belts. Now I was a city cop, you were required to ask if people were wearing seat belts on all accidents. If they responded no you wrote them a ticket and checked the box. Most accidents in town are relatively slow speed and therefore minor. Not wanting a ticket rarely do people say they were wearing a seat belt. Now highway accidents are another story. Bottom line is seat belts save lives. Truth is that you are 50 / 50 on injuries and wearing seat belts. Small people, especially women are more prone to injuries from seat belts and air bags. I went through emergency vehicle operator instructor training. I also was a motor vehicle accident re-constructionist and am also a NASBLA boating accident re-constructionist. I have seen a car roll over several times that ejected the non belted passengers ( who all survived but with injuries ) and the belted passengers died. I have also seen it the other way. I believe that you can improve your odds of surviving a crash a number of ways. Driving skills are the most important survival skills you have. You can only control two things in any motor vehicle, speed and direction. We are taught basic skills with minimum passing standards to drive but not maneuvers to avoid crashes. That is an advanced class that good rider will take on their own. I will close by stating my two cents, we are adults and free to make decisions that have consequences and outcomes that we take ownership of. So wearing a helmet like a chain on a wallet is the riders choice.

Air up your tires to max psi cold, you will feel it handles better just doing this. Dealers read the trunk label and under inflate tires. It handles much better at max recommended psi Max air in rear shock. Look where you want to go and the bike will go there. (Don't look down) an empty parking lot is good. Start on large turns and work your way to tighter turns. Repeat it over and over and you will build muscle memory and confidence. Take a motorcycle safety course and you will probably discover you have picked up a bad habit or two that you can work on, take the course with your rider. This will help them be a better on the back. These classes are cheap and your insurance company might give you a discount.

drilling holes for trunk rack
dacheedah replied to mike042's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You can get some RV butyl tape to put between the metal straps and trunk lid, will hold the straps in place, clean off easy. I did mine as described above, using blue painters tape. Position, mark and I drilled one hole, put one bolt in. Marked for second hole and drilled it. Then marked the last two holes and drilled them. The rack is a lot easier to put on with four hands. -
Saw that story on the news this am, they never showed his bike though. I hope he went out for a nice steak after all that work, he earned it. . .

Decided to Rest in the middle of an Intersection
dacheedah replied to BradT's topic in Watering Hole
As a retired police lieutenant all I can say is the officer(s) were lazy, it's a motor vehicle crash in 50 states. . . He had witness information and a suspect. The law prohibits you from entering an intersection ( yes even when u have the green light) until it's safe to do so. If you were in the intersection, it wasn't clear or safe. Police can also issue written citations or even a written warning based on witness accounts and they do it on accidents all the time. Glad you are ok. -
right knee equals left hip and ankle troubles. Fix them before you end up with other issues from overcompensating with the other side. A little research and some word of mouth will lead u to a great doctor. My dad ended up traveling to Chicago from Cincinatti for his surgery and was glad he did. You will be riding next spring. . .

I bought a knock off on ebay and the saddle bag guards. It's ok but I had to chase all the threads to clean them up, and I noticed on the saddle guard bolts they have a slight rust after getting wet. Everything I have read is polish them and wipe them off. Make sure the trunk rack has straps that sit on and under the lid. . .

Heated gloves are great, I got a pair of heated snowmobile gloves at Farm & Fleet for $20.00, each take 4 aa batteries and have a hi, lo and off. I wear a neck gater, leather jacket. When it gets cold I throw a gortex 100mph fishing rainsuit over my clothes. That will breathe but keep wind and rain off ya. I have also used gloves that take hot hands ( the cheap chemical hand warmers) and have a pocket it slips in, I end up using these for muzzle loader season when it can be bitter. If I rode some distance I would throw some toe warmers in my boots and a thermalcare on my back. No electrical issue there. You don't want your boots tight, they need air to keep your feet warm, and I find wool is the best insulator, even when it's wet...

Your system discs are probably on a partition of your hard drive. If you didn't make the discs when you got your system and having troubles I would burn a set now. If you do loose a hard drive you can restore the OS in short order.

I use my iphone and an app called gps drive. I put it on the handlebar with a handlebar holder I found at walmart for 21.00. It updates the maps wirelessly and on the run. I put it my itunes folder and my wife can use it on her phone. All you need to remember is turn off the auto lock feature.

Ok now I ran across this and wondered a few things, like how can you put the icc sticker on the door, how long your trans will last. . . . [ame=http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1704445/motorcycle_tow_vehicle/]www.metacafe.com/watch/1704445/motorcycle_tow_vehicle/[/ame]

1: go to accessories and disc cleanup 2: go to your browser(s) and cleanup the cookies and history 3: do a disc defrag 4: Go to microsoft.com and download security essentials , run that (it's free) and see what it finds 5: Ask her if she installed a "virus program", often a program that installs spyware or malware come from free music or video's. They appear to be real but are a program that keeps you in their payment system. If so find out and remove it. 6: If she installed a program and uninstalled it or deleted it incorrectly she has a corrupted registry. The computer will keep looking for it and it's not there and it will use resources to try to find it or run the missing program that will eat up memory and bog the thing down. (Kind of like trying to start a first gen in 5th gear)

I was explaining to my wife last night that when you die you get reincarnated but must come back as a different creature. She said she would like to come back as a cow. I said, "You're obviously not listening".

Radio problems
dacheedah replied to Preacher Dude's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
you want the tube, not the spray. Remember it is non conductive so you do not want it on your connections. You can put a dab in the end of a crimp on after it has been crimped to keep corrosion out though.
