Setting the carbs
dacheedah replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I agree you can get the mileage with a short fill up but I believe you will get a more accurate snapshot of the MPG by running more gas through it. I would also argue that the quality of gas is different at different stations and that will effect your mileage. I am talking formulation from station to station and not higher octane. We were having problems with our boats running rough and with fuel problems and it ended up being three gas stations in our town. The end result was lower octane, water and a higher than 10% ethanol. After testing all the stations through the summer there are simply some places I won't go for gas. Gas like beer is not all the same. You can order test kits several places or find instructions for testing gas. Saving a few bucks in the front end may cost you big in the back end. I ended up having to replace all my fuel hoses on my e-tec and simply changing stations with lower ethanol has proven to make a difference. -
I never have run over 7psi on the fronts, 15 seems too high, I would also check air pressure in the tire and pull the front tire off and check the balance on it.

Setting the carbs

I agree, the only eay to know how much gas is in her is to fill it up, mark the mileage and run it on reserve until you run it dry. You will know the mileage and how much you actually used so your actual miles per gallon will be spot on. Have a spare gallon or 2 with you to get running again. and you will know with confidence where you are at. -
Reserve Tank Question
dacheedah replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When my tank drops from two bars to one bar I know I am getting close to switching it to reserve. I did that one time on the road at night and almost ended up pushing her to the gas station. . . -
Thoughts and prayers, see if your insurance will pop for the rental of a lift chair, recliner. It will stand you up without trying, making that a lot easier process. . .

Bought stinking heated gloves that take 4 aa batteries at farm and fleet for $19.00 and they work great, you will go through some batteries yes, never tried rechargeable in them. I have also used hunting gloves that have pockets for hand warmers in them but your thumb suffers. I have also used a thermal care back heater for a cold ride, awesome, and toe warmers with good results. I have found that it keeps me warm on a treestand it works well when it's cold and I wear a 100 MPH suit for rain, if it can keep me dry while fishing , it keeps me dry while riding. . . Just saying you don't have to reinvent comfort. . .

DA WORK! Blinking LED Side Markers
dacheedah replied to Cougar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You would need 2 el13a's if you went that route. Make a Plug the power (x) lug from the switch, you could unplug the flasher and take it here, for each direction you would need a el13a ( L&R ), Each has one (X) and two (L) load lugs , plug the regular turn signal into one load lug and your side led's into the other load lug. It would also be cool from behind if you had another turn signal or arrow on the bags at the same height and they alternated flash, kind of like the lights on a car or truck mirror. -
Every group has it's extremists and I know that people have dis-associated from them. I just wonder how the bus they rode in still rolls??? I beleive in free political speech but also as in everything there is a time and place, laying someone to rest is not it, not now not ever! I would also have a hard time containing myself as I have no tolerance for any disrespect displayed towards our brothers and sisters who have given their lives for our great nation.

Any wig-wag will throw the current left, right, left ... once you give it power it just moves the power back and forth -
DA WORK! Blinking LED Side Markers
dacheedah replied to Cougar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
To make them blink opposite, we called it wig wag on our squad cars. Here is a link, a lot of companies make these but its just one device. http://www.swps.com/whelheadflas.html This would work cheaper and easier circuit, it's a EL13A flasher, you have power and 2 alternating loads, 1 flasher http://www.ledlight.com/electronic-led-flasher-el113a1.aspx -
Freebird, if I put the trailer in the front and fill the tires with oil or earl won't I have to convert it to a Di system to make right turns? Just seems I would end up with a CanAm badge on her and I didn't like the ride of that thing???

I would personally take it back to the mechanic if you have already paid him. If he rebuilt them, used the proper fluid and properly bleed the lines they should be good. Not to say they wouldn't need a re bleeding after some use but as a touch up. Personally I like these but they are not necessary. . .http://www.speedbleeder.com/

Serious cornering questions tips for an experienced Rider
dacheedah replied to muaymendez1's topic in Safety and Education
Look where you want to go, avoid watching someplace you don't want to go. I agree in taking an advanced course, we all pick up bad habits, they creep into our riding and riding safely is about developing and practicing good habits. If you question your confidence, you should practice to improve your skills and your confidence will return. . . -
