  1. Do some web searching. On the Make magazine forum someone said she "engineers" fancy corsets and other adult paraphernalia. There was a picture.
  2. In the magazine article they said ABS will work. You can buy ABS rods or use scrap. They had a butt joint recommendation. Cut, sand or grind a V. Use shorter rods. Fill any gaps between the pieces. Weld a bottom layer, a middle layer, and a top layer. Sand and paint as desired. The example used heat to soften the bottom for gap filling as a first step. Here's a link to the article, but it is a preview. I subscribed when I was building my digital carb sync that I posted earlier. http://www.make-digital.com/make/vol34?pg=92#pg92
  3. Saw this YouTube video referenced in Maker magazine. In it a cheapo dremmel-like tool is used to spin a plastic rod, and the friction heats it and the two work pieces to weld them together. Think this would work on motorcycle body parts? ABS? [ame= ] [/ame]
  4. Plus the electrical connection can go bad. Mine comes on sometimes just cruising on a hot day. Scared me at first just after the I got the bike, but now that I always know the condition and quantity of the oil, I don't worry so much.
  5. Check this out http://salem.craigslist.org/mcy/3758144368.html
  6. A clean filter is good, but I thought you were talking about re-jetting, etc. Carry on.
  7. Steady sea foam diet for a while. Probably have to change out your plugs at least once, maybe again. Make sure you are getting idle on all cylinders. Start up a cold bike, let it run 30-60 secs, and feel the exhaust pipes. Be careful. If one or more is cold, it's blocked, so write back in. You might get lucky and be able to clear the idle jet without pulling the carbs. There's an explanation on the site. It worked for me. I am skeptical of advice to change the air box to solve (dirty) carb issues. Sea Foam is better.
  8. I think about getting one to zip around town on. That's a great price on that fuel injected sporty. Good engine on those that don't self destruct by design. I'm also looking at the Triumph T100.
  9. Well, sort of....
  10. http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/08/showbiz/jenna-jameson-arrest/?hpt=hp_t2 Unlike Al Gore, she did invent the internet, or at least gave it a hand. Hey boss, go ahead and close it down if this is an improper topic for the Watering Hole.
  11. I thought just the hand held device was battery powered.
  12. yes yes yes. Have fun gen 1!
  13. Here's my thread on building a digital carb sync. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=73158 I've been thinking about bundling this up into a kit. Any suggestions appreciated.
  14. 1989 without a doubt. Besides being the best year, that bike is priced right and someone has been taking care of it.
  15. No kidding. My dad was a real mechanic, and did it all by ear. Guess I should have paid more attention when I had the chance.
  16. I've convinced myself that I can tell, by sound and feel, when the engine seems to be working against itself, and a sync is needed.
  17. I can't wait until I have my own 3-D printer and can print up new motorcycle parts. My guess... Remove the rivets, plastic weld the part, re-attach with either new rivets or a screw.
  18. I think NADA on that is $7800 stock. I think it depends on how fast you want to sell it, or how many tire kickers and test riders you want to put up with. You got lots of extra bling, and I'm surprised how many guys want full price back and then some. As a personal preference, I only want a stock bike. Sometimes guys bling their bikes and it looks just like they had too much money and not enough sense. Other times, a few tasteful mods really do make the bike better. How many cents on the dollar would you pay for somebody else's used bling, can't be sure if was done right, or caused a future electrical problem, or whatever, no warranty, and no recourse because it was a private sale. imho, ask for 85, you might get it, but expect to wait, and sell for 78.
  19. Congrats. This stuff can eat at a guy - I'm glad you are back in the saddle.
  20. In summary, HDs look great, sound great, are expensive but not perfect, and sometimes come with an attitude as one of many accessories, but not always. It just seems that way. HD has new models and new technology. Betamax was the better format for videotape. 1st gen Ventures are inexpensive, comfortable for the long haul, fast and fun through the twisties, go great with a mullet, are great bikes but not perfect. Yamaha does not have much new, especially for touring. A cassette deck and carbs are not a betamax, but getting dangerously close. Most important, no matter what you ride - ride.
  21. Pledge. For just about everything, windshield, painted metal, chrome. Aerospace Protectant 303. Seat, dash, rubber, cables.
  22. Just like the housing bubble - they only go up in price! Seriously - it's not a motorcycle, it's a life style platform. Instant identity, logo clothing, accessorize without end. The Barbie dream house of motorcycles. Laugh, but they're lugging the cash home.
  23. Famous Hell's Angel Sonny Barger does not say nice things about Harleys in his book, Let's Ride. He does say he rides only American made, now has a choice, and rides a Victory. For whatever that's worth...
