Very nice bike. I was looking at one when I bought my Venture. The turning point for me was the position of the driver footpegs. Due to the width of that beautiful engine the drivers feet are directly below him/her. It's just my preference but I really wanted the forward positioning of the floorboards that the Venture has. Just my 2 cents. Todd

I think China has been getting the jump on this as well- Have you heard about the major algae blooms they are having problems with? It's to the point of interfering with the sailing/sculling events at the Olympics. Nature at it's best! Make Algae- decrease pollution!

Weird Fuel Management problem
nelsontoddpa replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have to admit I've noticed a similar issue with my 05. My fuel indicator will come on (and the odometer changes to Fuel) with about a quarter tank still indicated on the digital fuel gage. Shortly after that it begins to sputter some and I have to switch to reserve. When I fill up- based on the spec tank capacity- I should have around 2 gal left in the tank. I guess I just chalked this one up to one of the RSV quirks that we all put up with- but maybe it's not........... -
I just put mine on last week using Larry's bracket that you can buy in the classifieds. His bracket and the instructions he sent and the post here about installing it make it a breeze! Oh- and you won't regret the sound!

Gotta love those bikes- minimal maintenance and they run forever. Good Looking Scoot!

I guess the only thing I would add to all the previous posts would be putting a closeable vent in the lower cowlings. It would help tremendously with the heat without having to add air wings. Todd

I loooooove the looks of a black vehicle! I haaaaaaaaaaate trying to keep it clean. Great looking pick-up. I'm sure you will enjoy it!

Well said Don! Thanks for leading the way (as usual)

Congrats! It looks like a beautiful home. I took the same steps about a year ago and purchased an older home with character as well- but my woodwork isn't nearly as nice as yours! I'm sure you will love it thoroughly

Has anyone here tried these on a RSV or seen them in person and have an opinion whether they would be worth a try or not? Thanks in advance for your opinions. http://www.dragspecialties.com/fatbook/23/287/3871795 Todd

A number of years ago I went during mid-October. Still pretty pleasant weather and the main tourist rush was done. We went along the southwest coast (the 'lighthouse trail") from Yarmouth to Halifax. We only averaged about 30 miles a day and had plenty to do, see and explore. Great, friendly people who are about as hospitable as they come. I'm sure you will enjoy the trip!

Here's one for you; if you are in a car traveling the speed of light, and you turn your headlights on, does anything happen?

I still like the C-130 better- especially the "angel wing" effect of the smoke caused by the turbulence.

Real. My daughter is 6 years old, so the magic of the season is really apparent. Even though it costs more, we trek out and cut down our own tree; decorate it with white lights and wooden ornaments. Of course we put up stockings; and on Christmas eve we not only put out cookies and milk, but outside we put out some 'oats' (oatmeal) for the reindeer. Of course, the cookies and milk are eaten, the oatmeal is partially gone and there is "magic reindeer dust" (gold glitter) and hoofprints (from this years deer) in the snow.

It's interesting that nobody has mentioned the parents of this 'younger generation' that can't function and that doesn't have even the most basic knowledge base. If it weren't for parents who are expect every child to get the very best grade (and blame the teacher if their kids don't get it) and hamstring the educational system with lawsuits and complaints about discrimination if their children are scolded, or otherwise told to straighten up, I think a lot of these issues would go away. In short- the schools are meeting the expectations of the parents- bowing to the atmosphere of entitlement and ease of living that the parents feel their kids deserve. We can't blame the next generation for the system that 'we' have allowed to develop.

Sea Foam. I don't routinely start her up during the winter unless it's to get out and ride on a very nice day. I think the Sea Foam keeps the water in the gas from freezing and the 'gunk' from settling in the carbs.

Looks like I'll be in the minority, but it seems like an awful lot of work to disseminate information that is already here. I joined about a year ago when I bought my RSV and didn't feel like I had a hard time navigating the site, or that I had missed out on any information. I like the way the site is laid out, the fact that there is a good amount of banter, as well as all of the technical information that is here. In short, I enjoy the site and the interactive nature of the participation, and I probably wouldn't take the time to read a newsletter like I do going through the posts. Todd

Just a thought- Has anyone considered creating a letter to Yamaha from this group as a whole, signed by any of our members that want to, that would express our collective admiration about our ventures as well as our frustrations with recurring issues (i.e. the whine), the lack of updates and give our suggestions regarding new models? The idealistic part of me would like to think that if we were able to send this (ultimately as a hard copy as well as electronically) to one of the upper Yamaha corporate officers that it may at least peak their interest. Even though the cynic in me says "what's the point", I've always tried to live by the motto that if you don't try to improve things you don't have the right to complain. I'm a fairly new venture owner, and maybe not intimately familiar with all of the venture issues, but I would be happy to help in creating such a letter with help from the group if the interest was there.

Any thoughts on taking it to a radiator shop and having them do their magic? A friend of mine took a rusted gas tank off an old snowmobile took it and they boiled it with some chemical, and it came out as good as new. Just a thought. Todd

I went with the 4 pin flat with the modulator recommended by Freebird in his excellent tech article. Most of the motorcycle trailers I have seen have the 4 pin connector as well (including my friend's trailer that I get to borrow every now and then). Also, when I ordered my golf club carrier from Als custom motorcycles I simply had him put on a 4 pin set up which works perfectly running lights and all. Incidentally, my friend has a honda shadow, tried to put on the 5 pin set up from the goldwing, and we couldn't get it to work for anything including adapters. He eventually went to the local U-haul dealer and they had a isolator/modulator that is nearly identical to the one recommended by Freebird and it works perfectly. Hope this helps Todd

All very interesting- just to put in my 2 cents- I drilled out 4 half inch holes in the rear of my pipes (after taking out the cone, of course) and got the sound I like, but didn't lose any power or gas mileage (I get about 48mph one up and 42 two up running between 65 and 80 mph- sounds like I'm lucky). I get an occasional pop, but not enough to even look into.

Can't say I care for most of them. For me they seem to detract from the sight line. The only one I thought wasn't bad was the spider web for the side of the bags. The rest just didn't do it for me- but hey- it takes all kinds......
