Riding boots that are made for motorcycle riders.
myminpins replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Riding Gear
I have a pair of side zip Harley short boots that I use when it gets cooler. Unfortunately, I have very wide feet and finding women's boots or men's that can pass for women's that fit is really, really difficult for me. These boots are super comfy and look brand new but have been worn a lot. In the heat, I ride in my sneakers - my feet burn and itch when they get too hot. I love it when it cools off and I can wear my boots and leathers and be comfortable. -
Thank you very much. I had never heard of it. I learned something new today!!

Very, very strange. I studied geography and tectonic plates and the eastern USA is in the center of a plate, where it's very unusual to have earthquakes. They're usually on the edges of the tectonic plates, such as in California. Glad no major damage seems to have occurred anywhere. Hope it didn't knock anyone's bike over and break anything!!!

Well, if you're a conscientious driver, you glance at your gauges often as you drive and would notice if the temp started rising or the oil gauge was creeping up. Like I said, once the lights come on, it's often too late. If you have gauges, you notice it's creeping up, you take care of it BEFORE it becomes a problem. That's just the way I see it.

You rode from eight until six every day? Wow. I cannot handle more than four to six hours a day max or my back is way too sore along with many other things. Mike, too, rarely wants to drive more than six hours a day max. You're kidding about 1800 kms not being far, right?? It would have taken us over six DAYS to go that far, not THREE. Sounds like you had a great trip. Wish I lived that close to the Rockies!!

If you have an oil gauge or temperature gauge, you have lots of warning that something is wrong with your bike. Otherwise, the idiot light comes on and you better be able to stop RIGHT AWAY or you will damage the engine. THAT is why gauges are always preferred to idiot lights, IMHO.

It's not here yet (thank goodness) but it's coming. Supposedly you can find non-ethanol pumps in most places (a couple at least) for boats and such if you look really hard.

I'll add my input. Agree with you on these ones: ADD Fuel Injection. Tachometer. Other Gauges. Temp, Volts. Delete Cassette Player. ADD THESE: Handle bar choke lever Clock with its own spot - NOT part of the odometer. Dual display - Odometer AND trip meter. Available accessories made to fit this bike such as: Arm rests, passenger highway pegs, different backrests for both passenger and driver. Cigarette lighter accessory port and/or USB port that only work when bike is running (so battery doesn't run down) Accessory port (such as it is now) but like all new cars that CHARGES your accessory you plugged in while the bike is running. Leave slot to put MP3 player/iPod into for safekeeping while driving.

I haven't driven a lot on our highways in the last four years period. We always travel the secondary roads by bike and haven't really been anywhere by car in eons. Last weekend, we went to New Brunswick via the highways and WOW!! There are a LOT LOT LOT more cars on the road now than just four years ago!!! I was AMAZED at the traffic!!! And this is one of the smallest provinces in the country so if our province has THAT MUCH MORE traffic, I can only imagine how the larger provinces and states' traffic has increased - and it was already congested and very busy in most other places!!! I also noticed an awful lot of stupid moves, dangerous moves, and what seemed to be a lot of distracted driving. So, my conclusion is, it's MUCH MORE DANGEROUS out there than it was just four short years ago. I do hope Tom has a full recovery and I hope it's quick. We'll be thinking of him.- 136 replies

Thank goodness for those other observant drivers, too!! Whew!!! So glad a cop was RIGHT THERE for you as well. About time a moron had to account for his actions. So very, very glad you're okay and it all turned out well. Good for you for being a good, safe driver!!! -
I've talked to the service guys there (about the Honda) and they were very knowledgeable and very friendly (confirming something I thought I knew go me!) but the shop itself has a bad reputation for ripping people off, not caring about customers, etc. I prefer to deal with my local bike shop who deals with all makes and models but don't know how much Venture experience they have. I'm sure I'll find out in due course, that's for sure!

Exactly!! Most of the "horrendous" tales I've heard were either bogus or did not occur in this country, Canada.

This is a GREAT thread. Thank you, Goose, you have a way of consolidating things that make it much easier for those of us new to this bike to understand. How worn would a back tire be when it started to affect the handling of the bike, in your opinion? I'm VERY fussy about our tires and tend to get them changed long before they are necessary to change as nothing (I can think of) is much worse than a tire blowout, especially in the front. For instance, I got our tire changed on our old bike at least one season before it would have been required. It was starting to look like it had lots of miles on it but definitely still passed safety and looked in good shape. I've read all the links comments here and there but, since we cannot do our own wrenching and don't know anyone who can help us in that department, I'm reluctant to trust a local shop to do such a thing plus it's cost prohibitive AND I don't think the Venture is a bike they see very often (but I could be wrong!!) (There is no LOCAL Yamaha dealer around here, just a Honda dealer that also services Yamahas)

I never understood and still don't understand why those who have hearing issues refuse to admit them and get a hearing aid. Hell, I want to hear all the gossip!!!! When my dad noticed his hearing was getting bad in one ear, he went right away and got one and he's very happy with his. I don't know the brand, etc., but basically it's a clear plastic tube that goes in his ear from the hearing aid, which sits behind his ear. He also wears glasses and he's very happy with it. He has been known to turn it down, though, when I'm in a boisterous mood and being kinda loud!! LOL:rotf: Good luck and good for you for doing something about it.

'06 - two keys - both open everything. Hope you get it straightened out somehow. I'd never want to haul around that many keys - that's nuts. Can you get them rekeyed at the dealer's expense??
