Help!! My dealer has let me down
myminpins replied to motorcycle_1300's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wow, sounds like the dealer did more harm than good. Have you used him before? Is he a certified Yamaha dealer? I'd definitely escalate this up to Yamaha (wherever the next step up is) and pursue it. Sounds to me that, basically, your bike is UNdrivable and there's absolutely no excuse for a dealer fixing a gasket to return a bike to you in that condition. What does the dealer you are presently dealing with propose? Do they admit anything is wrong other than the tires? How do they explain the shaking at idle? By the way, next time you're up in Nova Scotia, come by and say hi!! -

I think this is much too big a bike and way too top heavy and difficult to maneuver at slow speeds. Mike just went from a Shadow ACE Tourer 1100 to this bike, the Venture, and found it a tad touchy the first few trips out - and he's been driving for well over ten years. I'd recommend you not necessarily get a smaller engine bike but one that has a lower center of gravity and is very well balanced and drive that for a year or two until you are really used to driving a very heavy bike. As some have said, when these bikes start to go down, you aren't going to stop it. We had to pick ours up last week and the two of us could JUST do it. They're HEAVY! Best bet, of course, would be to go to a local bike shop and see if you can test drive some bikes. Then you can see what they feel like, how they're like to maneuver, etc. I'd definitely say this is NOT a beginner's bike.

This is the pump I purchased: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/400227983114?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 It works perfectly, lets no air out as you put it on, the gauge is wonderful and it has a button to push to let out a bit of air at a time so you can get it spot on. Best part was the price: US $23.99

What a mess!! Good luck getting that done soon and having a nice living room to relax in again! I do a ton of indoor renovations, too, and I'm always gung ho when we start but VERY glad once we're finished that it's done!! I help Mike do most things on the bike, too. It's great to have a partner in that way, isn't it?

Visited Local Yamaha Shop and ..... (I'm in trouble)
myminpins replied to RedRider's topic in Watering Hole
Wouldn't that depend on the seat you have and the way you sit when you ride? I know, as a passenger, I MUST sit straight up or my back kills me. If I sit on my tailbone for any length of time, I'm in extreme pain. Not everyone leans back when they ride. Even in my car, I must sit up completely straight or I'm in a lot of pain. -
Anyone in Nova Scotia want to go for a ride?

What particular phones are these? They can't all be the same make and model, are they? Mine's an HTC Sense (original model) that came with Android and is now upgraded to Gingerbread via the Cyanogen Mod. Ah hah! You're talking about the particular phone Droid 1 or Droid 2, not just the Android operating system, aren't you? Oops, sorry... Leaving now...
-
I have an HTC Desire flashed with Cyanogen mod so it's straight Android and it's great. I love it. I bought it second hand and no issues whatsoever. I won't ever own an iPhone - I can't stand them. My daughter has one and the calls always cut out or garble. I'm in Canada and we have Bell - never dropped a call, never garbled. I love my Droid. It's my first smart phone other than a Blackberry and I'll never go anywhere else again. Of course, having it flashed helps a ton - gets rid of all the junk that comes with it that slows it down.

Well, when it comes to kids, I would hope you'd always put a helmet on them no matter what the laws are in your state.
-
As far as I know here in Canada, there are no laws prohibiting children from riding on motorcycles. Ontario was talking about bringing in a law about no children under 14 years of age but it hasn't gone through yet. Here you go: I see you're in Kentucky. Here's the laws there from what I can find: http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/asp/amaccess/laws/result.asp?state=KY Make sure his mom or someone takes a pic of him with you and let us see it!!!!

UPDATE: Well, got my pump today!! Works great!! Found out it was at 15 psi in the rear - I put it up to 30 psi. Found out it was ZERO in the front forks - I put it up to 5 psi each. Can't wait for Mike to get up (he works nights) so we can go test it out and see how it feels. It should be much easier for Mike to handle since it was on ZERO in the front. I just hope it's not too rough for me so we'll see. Will let you guys know!!!!

Best of luck with your surgery. At least you know it's coming. Last year, I broke my ankle in three places October 4th. I was so ticked as October is gorgeous here. Recovery well and quickly!!!!

Hopefully the weather Saturday will hold enough for us to get out for a good ride. Anyone interested in going for a ride with us? We'd like to leave in the morning, stop for lunch and home around suppertime.

Getting dizzy reading about mesh jackets.
myminpins replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Watering Hole
I would love to have a mesh jacket but most are at LEAST $150 and I won't pay that for a jacket. No way. Remember, I live in Canada. It's rare to see anything motorcycle related even slightly reasonably priced here. I have a Joe Rocket jacket that is sorta mesh but it's way too warm in the summer for me. I'm in t-shirt and shorts most days these days with my ivory colored leather vest over top and sneakers. Safe? Nope. Tolerable and not dying of the heat? Yup.
