  1. Have you taken the bike to a shop to have it load tested? That's the best way to determine if the battery is any good or not. The best type of battery is the sealed type rather than the older style. If you maintain them, especially in the off season (if you have one) they can last for quite a few years.
  2. Well, if you're always doing the speed limit or thereabouts, it's irrelevant. If you want to know how fast you can go at MAXIMUM speed, then the debate begins. Are you considering purchasing a Venture and wondering first gen vs. second gen.? I know we own a second gen and it's plenty fast for us but it really depends on where you drive, how you drive, how fast you drive, etc.
  3. Ah, freshly wet roads. I get it now. Thanks!! So glad you weren't badly hurt!! Heal quickly!!
  4. Me thinks he doth protest too much!!!!! Harleys have a reputation EVERYWHERE as being bikes that require a lot of work. Period. It's not inexperience OR jealousy OR lack of knowledge. It's listening to this repeated over and over and over and over for many, many, many years - especially by Harley owners themselves. YMMV
  5. So glad you're okay, Rick, but I have to ask... WHY was that a rookie mistake?? Were the roads freshly wet so it was oil slicked??? Did you come down HARD on your front brake? I'm not understanding why you're calling this a rookie mistake and what you did exactly that made you fall??????
  6. Our '06 doesn't wine, thank goodness. I do wear ear plugs, though, that block noise AND are my headphones for my iPod. Unless we're on city streets, I always have them in - my ears are super sensitive to cold as well as to noise so these work beautifully for me Best headphones I've ever had, too, and can't feel them at all once they're in - ideal for helmets http://www.plugup.com/the_S_plug_earcanal_stereo_earbuds_p/s%2022-3.5-4.5.htm
  7. We used to own a V twin Honda Shadow ACE 1100 and it would easily lug if the gear was too high and you hit a good hill. This bike, our RSV, barely ever lugs no matter what gear you're in and, even though it's "only 200" more, it sure has a LOT more power than our Shadow did!! The difference is quite remarkable. For a bike with "only 1300", it sure has lots of power!!!!! We love it.
  8. Please, if you're trying to find a bike that is comfy for you AND YOUR PARTNER/WIFE, see if you can take different bikes out for test rides. I haven't found any bike as comfy, roomy, etc., as the Venture ever though I've never been on a Wing. I've been on many other "regular" bikes that are sort of meant to be long distance bikes (Honda Tourer, for instance) and they aren't even CLOSE to comfort like the Venture is.
  9. Horribly tragic, especially this part: What a horrible shame for everyone involved. Very smart:happy34:
  10. Gulp. I just found this: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/harley_davidson.html Definitely not a glowing recommendation for HD. Many complaining of very similar issues to those heard on this board.
  11. It says it's available Canada-wide at these stores: Napa, Auto Parts Plus, Auto Plus, Auto Sense, Auto Value, Bumper to Bumper, Carquest, Parts Source, Best Buy, and Lordco. Hah, it's available at our local Canadian Tire so there you go. I've never looked for it before so... Thanks!
  12. :yikes: That's horrible!!!!!!
  13. Our choke has the chrome knob on it but it stays put until we push it in. Compared to our Honda VT1100T, this bike doesn't seem to start quite as nicely but it does always start and stays going once it starts. Our Honda VT1100T was also water cooled and started every time with minimal choke (depending on the temperature). Now that it's cooled off quite a bit, we often crack the throttle once it starts to ensure it stays running (it has stalled a couple times but it's under 50 degrees here now in the mornings) though on the Honda we never touched the throttle once it started. Our bike seems to run beautifully so we just chocked it up to a different bike and brand (Yamaha vs. Honda). Planning next year to get it really well gone over by our local mechanic at our local bike shop - check all the cables, make sure they're as they should be, lube if necessary, sync the carbs if they're not perfect, etc., etc., etc. I don't believe we have seafoam around here (not 100% sure of this) but we use some gas stabilizer from our local Canadian Tire here. We don't have ethanol in our gas yet, either, but it's coming.
  14. Interesting as another member here just got a new to him HD and has the same issue. I cannot imagine putting out $36k for a bike then having a stator failure in the first couple of weeks. I'd be asking for my money back. That's outrageous. I hope they do more than replace the stator - they better find out WHY it failed or he'll end up stuck again. They don't even have one in stock????? Wow. That sucks. Did they at least fall over themselves apologizing? The least they could do was give him a free mug or something. Wow, the really NICE car I could get for 36k. I'm dreading paying $20k for a new car (we need one soon). Glad you were there to help.
  15. Good thoughts and healing hopes sent your way from the Great White North.
  16. Thank you for letting us know. How sad He was only 63. He will be in our thoughts. Hopefully it wasn't an accident as they say:
  17. I've never met Ponch and am relatively new here but accidents like this are so devastating to hear about. Thank you so much for keeping us updated and letting us know what's going on. Hopefully he will make a full recovery!! You are very special, Sharon, to be taking such good care of him and being so supportive. It must be very difficult for you. So glad to see he's making a recovery step by step.
  18. So sorry about your sister-in-law. She'll be in our thoughts.
  19. I'd actually probably try to see if anyone in the media was interested. That is really, really, REALLY lousy service for a dealership. Even used CARS get 30 day guarantees now (from dealers). I hope you get it fixed without too much $$$$ Sorry you got betrayed
  20. It still means we Canadians, AGAIN, pay MORE even though our dollar is almost par with the US dollar. I'm glad these services exist and they are great but it still SUCKS that they HAVE to exist:mad:
  21. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!
  22. So you bought this bike 12 days ago, the stator is toast and the dealer won't fix it for you? Didn't it come with at least a 30 day warranty? (used bikes around here from dealers come with 30 day warranties, usually not worth a thing but in this case...) I'd be REALLY ticked!
  23. Brrr!! I can't stand the cold on the bike like that any mored. As a teenager, I could but now, not so much. I know!!!! LOL Your summers would do me in, though!!! Now if I could afford a "summer" home and a "winter" home....
  24. I hope not. That's quite awhile to not even check in, seeing as he used to post here quite a bit and was here steadily for years. And BOTH phones are out of order??? That's not good. Anyone who lives near where he lives have any idea what's up?????
