CC Cleaner is awesome - free and works great, never screws up the registry. Are you running Windows IE? If so, think about switching to Firefox. It's much safer and runs more reliably. (I use Opera personally but am a bit of a guru) Get at least one external hard drive and put most of your "stuff" on there. I have two hard drives connected to my laptop. The only stuff on my laptop harddrive is the operating system and bookmarks. Keeps it much more minimal that way. I also divided up the hard drive so the operating system is on its own section of the hard drive. You should run CC Cleaner every few days, including the registry cleaner that comes with it. It helps a lot. I never update Windows but that's just personal preference. I find the less often Microsoft touches my operating system, the better it runs. Try an anti virus like eSet Smart Security - much better than AVG. Make sure to clean out old emails, too, or use something like Gmail so it doesn't use up your hard drive or make the whole system slow down. My laptop is three years old now, running Windows 7 32 bit and it still runs as fast as the day I got it - well, faster, really, since it came with Vista and I put 7 on it AND removed all the "crap" that comes with laptops. Make sure you empty your recycle bin often, too. Too much junk and trash can really slow a system down. If you put the operating system on its own partition, you never lose your files, photos, etc. if you have to do a restore Good luck.

LOL I don't use it often. Opera is my first choice, then Firefox.

You can use Ctrl + the + key or the - key or you can put "zoom in/zoom out" in your toolbar.

Hey, Freebird, I just noticed something. Does your "Globe" thing only work in USA? For me (and slabrider), it puts me in Massachusetts (Dartmouth, MA) rather than in Nova Scotia, Canada. EDIT: I put in our postal code (under location) and it fixed it. Of course, then it shows exactly where I live, which may not be a good idea? Anyway... EDIT #2: Changed it to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and now it shows a generic Dartmouth location. FYI!!!

Thanks, Freebird. As I expected, no Nova Scotia chapter. Thanks for the link.
-
Well, if it's international, I don't believe there are any chapters in this province. I've not heard of it before and we have many bike clubs around here.

This Star Touring thing is a USA thing, is it?

Thank you for the "other side" posts, people. I find many people diefied Steve Jobs. I have done a ton of reading about the Computer History Museum at Carnegie Melon. Many, many things were invented, started, thought about and tried before Steve Jobs OR Bill Gates was around.

Cut the heel toe and made just a toe shifter

Mike's boots always looked crappy, toes scuffed and ratty looking. Since he learned to use the heel shifter, his boots stay unscuffed and look much better. I believe that's what they were referring to. -
I've seen this message a few times, but not on here...

I LOVE IT!!!! :clap2: As an English and grammar fanatic, learning to spell the "USA" way has driven me nuts!!! I had to learn to do it for work but I refuse to do it in my own day to day correspondence. -
Are the recent names added because of the war in Afghanistan? So this is no longer a Vietnam wall but a general war wall?

I wasn't quite sure where you were coming from but thanks for explaining!! No worries. I didn't know lane splitting was a "hot topic" @22lyons: That would have scared the crap out of me!!! Glad you're okay!
-
Huh? Have no clue what you're on about. Just asked a question.
-
Lane splitting is illegal in your state, isn't it? It's illegal everywhere in Canada and I've never seen it happen when we're on a bike, thank goodness. I thought the purpose for lane splitting was when the traffic was almost stopped or stopped to let a motorcycle through? Not for passing on highways?

Try logging into any site you can think of where you may have been in the past. If you can get into any of the accounts, change the password right away then contact the owners of the site. Good luck finding this person and getting rid of them.

But the car is driven at least twice or more a week. Try doing that in a car that sits for a month or two where it's always below zero, often below -10C and the battery will die in no time. That's the difference. Wow, your garage must be heated and/or insulated really well and/or attached to your house because our garage is rarely ABOVE 0C once winter sets in. It's insulated but stands alone and no heat.
-
Every site I have read and every article I have read about storing your battery over the winter (where it goes below zero for months and you do NOT ride your bike), say to take the bike out of the cold, store it somewhere other than on concrete and above 40 F. Put it on a trickle charger once a month or a maintainer for the winter. Every site says to NOT leave the battery out in the cold, especially where it goes below 0C for months at a time. Just my

You used to be able to see them any time you were out in the country and they were at their peak. I haven't seen them in many, many years now as there's just so much light in the world these days. You would have to travel quite far north to see them. I'm sure you could go via motorcycle but, within the next month, you're going to run into snow in northern Canada (they've already had a bit) so it's much safer to do so in a cage. There is a website now where you can see the northern lights. I don't remember where it is, though. There may be some info there.

Our local shop charges $60 an hour for labour. The local dealership I'm SUPPOSED to go to charges $90 an hour for labour. Not likely!!!!! That sounds promising!!!! And that cost you $1325???? OMG!!!!! That's ridiculous!!!!! We took our old bike (Honda Shadow ACE 1100) in for a once over of all the cables, tune up the carbs, replace the rear tire, etc., etc., etc. and the total only came to $500. $220 was for the tire and the rest was labour, which seemed fair to me as I had asked them to check every cable, lube it if necessary, adjust it if necessary, replace it if necessary and check the carbs and adjust as required. They adjusted the carbs and it stopped backfiring period and they lubed all the cables. None needed replacement so it was only $300 and they spent a good half day or more on it plus took it for a good ride to ensure it wasn't backfiring any more. Installation of a rear tire is something like $150 (it's a big job) I really, really like our local shop!!!!! A dirty cup in your box? Ugh. I never leave our helmets there. They use their own if need be. So glad you may have more pleasant experiences in the future!!!

Same with my insurance. Stolen somewhere else - use bike insurance. Stolen out of your garage, homeowner's insurance. That's pretty standard in the industry.

Personally, I prefer "Quick Links" then "Today's posts" as it gets rid of the right hand side bar so the page isn't so narrow but I guess that doesn't give you as many results. I really hate that right hand thingy in the "active threads" result page. Just FYI.

Actually, no. Why go to a dealer you're not happy with or gives you delays unless the other places have specifically said they cannot service your bike? I've never gone to a name brand specific dealer for service ever. The "name brand" dealer around here (for our previous bike) has a bad reputation and is very expensive. I have purchased parts from them once or twice that were very specific to our bike but my general motorcycle shop (who is a dealer for two brands of bikes also) is where I've always gotten service on our bikes for the past 20 years or more. They can fix anything on any type of bike. If they cannot, they will say so or recommend we go to the dealer itself. I do the same with my car. I go to a place I know has a good reputation, reasonable prices and I know are good to work with. Just because it says Yamaha doesn't mean you need to go to a Yamaha dealer, especially if you're talking about tires or carbs. They are common on many bikes, not just Yamahas, so why go only to the Yamaha dealer, especially when it's so far away?
-
Heck, I would have taken a cab if it meant I'd have my bike for the long weekend, especially if I had plans. Seems like they kept you in the loop and did the best they could, actually. You don't have a closer, local bike shop you can go to for this stuff rather than the specific Yamaha dealer?
