I want one of those SOOO badly but they aren't sold anywhere around here I really, really want one. I found them a year or so ago. The first modular you can ride with the chin bar up as it locks in place. Sigh. My dream helmet.

50mph Crosswinds. How do you ride? fast? slow? not at all

Since we can only really ride on weekends, if it's not raining, we ride. If it's windy, oh, well. We always travel on secondary roads (virtually empty around these parts) and now that we have the Venture, it's much easier than the Shadow was with higher winds. It's not often we get winds over 35 or so though but we have ridden in 50 before. Mike gets a bit tired and we may take more breaks but it sure doesn't keep us home! -
@captjoe: I already work every morning seven to noon so I do have stuff to do. It's socializing that's really lacking in our lives. Fix other people's computers? If I had to get more income, I'd think of it but wow... that's one hell of a headache and people are so *****y about their computers. I'd rather not go there, really. I take care of our computers and this is a VERY small province. There are almost no computer places left - they've all gone out of business since it's so cheap to buy new or they use people like Geek Squad, etc. I honestly don't think it's really feasible any more. Now if I lived somewhere like Toronto maybe but here...? Thanks for the thought, though, I do appreciate it. Almost all the bike clubs have weekday evening meetings (ride to Tim's and chat then ride back) and/or rides and that's the stuff I miss the most - being able to very casually get together with people and chat about bikes and stuff and go for a ride. I used to ride myself but don't really enjoy it any more and a second bike? Nope... no money for that one!!

We are many, many, many years from retirement, unfortunately, and with the increasing prices of everything including gas, property taxes, power, groceries, etc., and no raises likely for years, either, we're just making ends meet and able to save enough to get us by when things need to be repaired or replaced (like the garage roof last year). We won't be taking any trips this year (again!) but will sure be glad when riding season starts again. It's been snowing constantly these last few days. Enough. I'm glad we have jobs but sure would like to see our money go further, that's for sure. Our car is 12 years old this year... don't know how much longer we can make it last but we're doing our best.

The Big Brother paranoia seems to be getting worse and worse every year. Oh, my gosh, they're TRACKING me. Yes, to see your shopping habits, etc., to give you ads more directed to your preferences. Big freaking deal. You could always switch to Linyx. Far as I know, that's still safe. Heck, use MS DOS to browse. There ya go!!! LOL

My neighbor got a call from someone the other day who knew that a gentleman has passed away and his widow was "getting rid" of his stuff. He now owns a MINT 1982 Wing with 70,000 km on it. I wanted to kill him!! LOL Dang it!!! It's gorgeous and runs like a top. He can fix stuff and has friends who can fix the rest so he's got it made. The best part? He paid $1,000 for it. Yes, ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. Argh!!! Why can't we find deals like that????!!!!

The most important thing to remember is not to go on sites you don't know or trust and to have good security in your system. We have a router which is encrypted which is one of the best firewalls you can use. We also use ESET NOD antivirus. I've been managing our computers (we used to have four of them) for over 10 years now and we've never gotten a virus, worm, trojan, etc. It's mostly the user that has to learn how to use a computer. If you randomly click on sites or ads or whatever, you're likely to get in trouble. Use some common sense and it's all good.

These are the Diamond R armrests http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=Swingout%20Tubular%20Armrest, which pivot horizontally. I haven't had an issue with keeping them tight at all and they don't bother me in the least (closed in?) I love the feeling of having arm rests beside me on the bike. I found myself much, much, much more comfortable once the armrests were installed, especially on bumpy areas or when it was really hot and I needed a place to rest my arms other than on my legs. After using them last year, they are still nice and tight but I keep a spare allen key to tighten them, if required, in the trunk just in case. Trust me, when I tighten things, they don't loosen!!

Riding season is basically over here for us so who wants to read about all those who have balmy weather and can ride all year long???? LOL It's been okay weather here and there but not really warm enough to go for any length of a ride so we're probably done for the season.

You can if you want but it doesn't really make much difference unless your bike is going to be stored somewhere it's going to get a ton of "stuff" on it. Ours is in the garage and dust wipes off easily whether it's a millimeter thick or an inch thick!! LOL

Been there, done that - both sides, his and mine. So very, very glad my kids are now grown and his are finished with child support. His live in the USA thousands of miles away and we haven't seen them for years and years. Mine live nearby and their father walked out of their lives three years ago - yet lives very close by. Never fun, never easy, and NEVER EVER cheap. Good luck and it sounds like the kids are very lucky to have you!!!!

The biggest problem with trying to purchase ONLY USA or Canadian products is they often cost a LOT more and some of us just don't have that kind of cash to spend. If you total it up for an entire year, it's in the thousands, especially if you're talking clothing. I always try to purchase local goods, especially when they are in season, but more and more often they are putting their prices out of my reach so they are putting THEMSELVES out of business. Some of you may argue but things are MUCH more expensive in Canada, even a loaf of bread or a carton of milk, than they are in USA (with some exceptions, of course) as we noted when we travelled the US via truck and purchased clothing and groceries there. The minute you cross the border, prices drop like crazy. You're not going to change the world at this stage of the game, IMHO, because the world is too global and cheaper is going to win MOST of the time. Great idea, though.
