  1. If you cannot locate Simple Green at WalMart, get Castol Super Clean and a spray bottle. Mix a 35%/65% solution (SC/H2O) and spray down your bike. Rinse off. You may need to use a wet rag to work it in a bit.
  2. Very good post! And timely, too! I need to go do that to mine right now!!
  3. Just a quick update. To date, I am getting about 9% better mileage since this mod. I went for averaging 31 pulling my trailer to 33.75 (average). A few more tanks will help lower my margin of error. I don't know enough to determine if it's an "emissions neutral" mod. But I don't...well...never mind. Wish they would put an actual valve on the thing like in cars & trucks.
  4. Can you post it as an attachment? That'd be some great info to share.
  5. Great link! Thank you for posting it.
  6. Do you have a link to that test? Surely it wasn't funded and performed by AMSoil, right?
  7. Brian, if you change your mind just multiply all his numbers by .621 to covert them to miles. ***** I figure you were getting around 21-25 MPG (US). That's pretty bad. Not sure if the windshield is totally at fault here since my heavily faired RSV has the gianormous windshield from Yamaha's catalog PLUS I pull my trailer 90% of the time and I still average 32 pulling. Might have just been headwinds??
  8. I would never suggest that anyone take off a piece of equipment that can affect emissions. Oh wait...
  9. Air Injection System? Is it really called the Air INDUCTION System? Well...no matter. It puts fresh air into the exhaust stream to aid in burning off any unburnt combustibles. It's for emissions.
  10. Luckily the lava is currently going in to the ocean! It's expensive to live if you live expensively. Otherwise, it's just like anywhere else...'cept prettier.
  11. I've always been told not to exceed 1/2 the wet weight of the bike.
  12. Yes. On the front page of the particular forum you're viewing is the SEARCH This Forum option. It is located on the right side kinda below your login name. Click on "Search this Forum", this will open a drop down window. Click on Advanced Search. The first field is for a keyword search. Below it is a little drop down menu. By default it says "Search Entire Posts". Click the arrow and a choice for "Search Titles Only" will appear as a choice. ~~~~~~~~ FWIW, I keep my petcock in Reserve position all the time. Yamaha must have been worried that only really old men were gonna ride this thing. They put 4 different ways to let us know when to stop for gas. What were they thinking?? 1. Fuel gauge. 2. Low fuel light. 3. Count-down trip meter. 4. Running out of gas when on the normal position. (Removing my hands while driving just to fumble with the petcock is the worst one.)
  13. I have it and the paper one. What I didn't have at the time was the desire to look for it. Forums make me lazy. Look, I can just ask the question and more than one will tell me where to look first. ~~~~~~~~~ Thanks Goose. I'm off to find the culprit. ...bet it was that damn tree! It's been mad at me every since I introduced my dog to it.
  14. My Neutral light doesn't come on and as such I cannot let my bike idle while on the kickstand. This is even IF it is in neutral. Where do I look first?
  15. Yeah, wire one to each. The red wire will go to the SUPPLY position on the aftermarket switch and the other goes to the LOAD. I use a 30A. I think that it is just fine. I used a 15A (all I had at the time) and I had no issues for a couple of weeks.
  16. Yeah...the hazards should really be hard wired to the battery. They should work without the key; period. I gotta dig into my bike later today. I think I'm gonna explore how to do this... I think the brake & running lights should be wired to the ACC position as well. I also think the headlight should turn off when the starter is engaged. Sounds like too much rewiring for me, though.

    Helmet Help

My $.02. I use a HJC Symax II with a Scala Rider TeamSet. I suggest folks who buy one prior to wearing one get one size larger than normal. They are a much tighter fit than the previous Symax (my old Symax has been retired after 3 years). The Scala Rider is fabulous. Buetooth & intercom. Fantastic. Flip-ups are the only way to go if you ask me. It is invaluable when it gets hot riding around town. Nice to be able to flip it up and get some air and to flip it down if it rains. Easier to put on glasses, too. Although it comes with integrated sunglasses. I wear prescription at night.
  18. Interesting article. Last sentence caught my eye. "As a side note, Rogers’ wife Kristin Finn, was awarded $500,000 for loss of consortium." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ VegasVic, Glad you made it out alright! Thank God for God.
  19. Ummm Goose...your post IS an attack. I mean, c'mon...that little red dude on the soap box is cussing at me! It's okay. I respect your opinion but prefer the increased performance and less oily mess. Wonder if I'll get better mileage. Hmmm if so...that may make the mod emissions neutral. FWIW, I live on an island with the world's most active volcano. The amount of sulfur dioxide & carbon dioxide it emits in ONE DAY exceeds what my RSV will emit in 100 years.
  20. WOWZERS! Is Earl ever right! I just pulled the tube to the airbox to try it out since I had the tank off to wire up an ignition bypass switch. The bike winds up faster, pulls a lot stronger...especially with my trailer. It just feels better. Makes sense since it's got a much cleaner mixture to burn now. There really is a strong seat-of-the-pants difference. Everybody should do it. Thanks for the nudge to do it Earl! Still gotta find a filter....
  21. How often does it reload?
  22. I'll post a pic later today. Main thing is that I got clear passing lamp lights. They didn't match the headlight. The Suzuki's was clear as well. The pattern is much sharper and the high beams just ROCKS! It uses the same bulb as stock. Now all the lenses match.
  23. Now I'm not 50+ (only 41 in June) but I find it scary the number of you who post that you agree with a course of action like this. ESPECIALLY those of you over 50. This is not the way you were raised...getting government handouts. Only 2 of you actually added it all up. 40 TRILLION. Here's the problem with this. 50 year olds have the most experience. Who you gonna replace them with? This guy? http://fieldsofgarlic.com/lj/400x600_mg2006_green_fairy_boy.jpg Nothing like promoting freedom of choice. Funny coming from a forum full of Japanese bike owners. Americans don't buy as many American cars for a reason and it ain't lack of patriotic duty. Forcing them to is...well...un-American. So they buy it and sell in the used market. Values plummet for both new AND used. Now what? So they pay off their house. How does THAT help the housing "crisis"? Most are close to paying it off at that point anyway. And the interest they paying on their 30 year note is way lower than what is going towards the principal. Not likely. Gotta come up with 40 TRILLION...actually let's call it what is really is. 40 million million.
  24. I replaced my entire headlight on mine and used one from an 03 Suzuki SV1000N. T'was a PITA. But much better lighting especially with the SilverStar. 'Course I don't expect anyone to follow suit since I had the stock Suzuki light lying around after I put dual headlights on it for that cool Streetfighter look. Anyway, it can be done. It's a PITA. There are instructions floating around here somewhere.
