I'm gonna say that it is coming from the engine and probably because there's either a bad seal or hole somewhere. Just a hunch, though...

WOW! Lots of kickstand aficionados here. Thank you Puckman123 for the pulling the floorboard tip. I'll do that next time I "service" it. I pulled the front of the linkage off and didn't even think to just pull the whole darn thing off. I did clean it as best I could installed. I attacked it with WD-40 and will followup later with a bit of oil. Guess the grease was too much, eh? ediddy, I did pull the spring off... Sure comes off easy. BradT, could you post when you replace the parts and let me (us) know if it made a difference? I wonder if the hole in the top part of the stand is getting elongated or...

My kickstand irritates me. It is quite stiff requiring an extra "kick" to get it to fully extend down. I grease it to no avail. I tried to remove it today but you have to remove the shift linkage to get the darn bolt out. I cleaned everything as best I could a reapplied grease. No real change. It works real fast and smooth if I've been riding in the rain. It snaps down with nary a thought. I did notice a fair amount of up and down play. Does anybody else's act the same way?

Created my own Wind Tunnell
Monsta replied to distancerider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the tallest, widest shield available from Yamaha's catalog. I do look through it. I'm so used to it now that it doesn't affect me. It creates a very still pocket of air for me and my passenger, keeps all rain and bugs off me but can be a bit hot in town. I put two vents in it. The vents themselves are pretty useless when opened so I completely remove them and allow the holes to direct the air onto me. -
Anyone experience driveline lash?
Monsta replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
TRAILING throttle. Meaning: slowing down without the throttle "on". I'll try adjusting my throttle cable. I have a very minor amount of play in it though. -
Anyone experience driveline lash?
Monsta replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So it is normal? Do you get a bit of it as well then? Mostly notice it in 3,4,5th. However, it is most noticeable at LOWER RPMs in those gears, not higher. The higher the RPM the less intrusive the lash. For instance, 5th gear; trailing throttle at 50mph, roll back on and I get a jerk. the jerk depends on how hard I roll back on. But it feels like something taking up slack....like it would on a chain drive bike with a chain that's a bit too loose. Dang...I really don't want it to be carbs. I don't want to tear into those right now! Guess I'll pull the rear wheel and shaft and inspect for play. But if you all feel it too maybe I'll leave well enough alone and just RIDE! -
When on trailing throttle at 45+ MPH I find it very difficult to roll back on the throttle with out experiencing a jerky re-engagement. I do not hammer the throttle back open. Just roll it back on. Shafties usually don't have this. What could be out of tolerance or is it normal?

New to me '06 venture. Oil? Filter?
Monsta replied to Whitetales's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Used to be that diesel oil was THE way to go for cost effectiveness and still have good protection. With emissions tightening up for diesels even new diesel oil is losing some of the parts (or having them reduced) that made them so good for a motorcycle engine. Still I use diesel specific oil in 15W/40 and will until my engine seizes up. Car oil is bad. Anything that is labeled Energy Conserving is baaaaad. -
FWIW, if I had it to do all over again I would have just put one dead center or waited and got the square one from a Gold Wing. These two just don't really put any air on me. When I completely remove them and I can feel it but other than that...

Checking the oil level

That's hilarious!! ****************************** Inspection mirror! Great idea!! -
You named your trailer?? So how much do you think it weighs when it's loaded? It looks like a huge load!

I'd really like a set of those "eyebrows" if they come off uninjured. I'd like to put them on my saddlebag lids.

You say you fueled up in your first post. Prior to that had you fueled up at a station that you typically do not frequent? Given that the symptoms disappeared I would look more at the gas quality than any mechanical problem.

That's hardly a comparison. Have you really looked at MJ nose? *********************************** Farrah...that red swimsuit, those nipples, her face: all gave me a reason to become a "Master of my own domain" when I was a kid. http://wanderingblonde.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/farrah_fawcett_poster.jpg

Beware using your debit card at the gas pump
Monsta replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
Quote of the day! Second quote of the day! And a bit scary... Y'all realize the less we use cash the more opportunity the Feds have to get rid of it. Cash is freedom. Start using cash more. I'm no conspiracy theorist but many people "behind the scenes" want to do away with cash. We're slowly being conditioned to do without it. "Cash back" schemes & Reward Points, the convenience...it's everywhere you want to be...etc. etc. These ploys are dumbing down America. I'll say it again. Cash is freedom! Start using cash more. Get off your bike and go hand the lady behind the counter $10 for your gas. -
I currently have a 2005 V10 Excursion. I've been at ford-trucks since '01. My wife calls it "my mistress". Well, I certainly appreciate the work you put into it!

Don (and whomever else wants to read. ) I belong to another forum (www.ford-trucks.com) that also uses vBulletin. There is a membership for some members who want no ads, a private forum and other stuff. Next to our names we have a tag or icon. When you click on it, it takes you to the subscription page where you can renew or just see when you need to renew. Plus, when the little ball is lit it shows that you're online (in the forum). Just curious why you didn't go that route. Is that not a standard part of vBulletin? Seems time consuming the way you did it. You didn't have to keep typing or cut-n-pasting "Supporting Member" in everyone's profile, did you? If so, maybe you should raise the rate to $13.00.

Does your cooling fan come on??

Interesting. What was the powerplant? 4.8? -
Does your cooling fan come on??
Monsta replied to dragerman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Oi...off topic. Electric fans came about for MPG improvement but also due to the use of transverse mounted engines, which in turn came about due to the popularity of front wheel drive. A transverse mounted engine cannot run a fan off the front of it. Due to the widespread use, what was an added cost to use electric fans is now no longer an added cost. Sorry for the off topic reply. -

FWIW, most cars in the road today have electric cooling fans as well. -
What do these plugs say
Monsta replied to BuddyRich's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Tranny fluid!?! Maybe in a diesel engine (it can be a lubricant for the injectors) but not a gasser. When did you last service your air filters? -
Windshield and Ventilation
Monsta replied to OldBear's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There are two Allen head bolts on either end of the inside of the fairing at the top. Those hold the chrome strip on. FWIW, I'll add my two cents for hot weather riding since I do my fair share. I'm blessed not only because I live in Hawaii but that I also live on the Big Island which has the most diverse climate in a given area in all of the world. We have 11 of Earth's 13 climates right here. That includes deserts and arctic tundra! Using the post in the tech forum that outlines how to add circular vents in the windshield I added two about a year ago. It's hot riding through a lava desert (black rock!) with very high surface temps. I needed some airflow especially since I have the largest windscreen available through Yamaha. Those two vents don't do a whole lot when opened though. So I just took to removing them. The airflow through is quite pleasant and keeps me cool in town and through the desert regions. If I see rain I just pop them back in. Takes a couple of seconds. Best part of the mod was the price. Less than $30 if I recall. If I was to do it again, I would only add one and put it right in the middle. Less cost and less measuring to make sure the two holes are even.
