  1. I saw a new commercial for the Chevy Eco today: A guy drives up to a Chevy dealer in a new Toyota Camry and the dealer asks if he's "Ready to trade the ole girl in?" The drive replies that it's a brand new Camry and he just wanted to look at the new Chevy. When the owner gets out to look at the cars the salesman starts looking at the Camry and says there's no way this can be a new car. Antoher saleswoman steps up and asks "what are you looking for?" He replies " A cassette deck". I immediately thought about the Venture. (I had a 99 before the RSTD) Maybe if the other makers would call out our Venture Yammy might finally wake up!
  2. I have to agree that there is little hope for us in 2013. I don't have any faith in Yamaha and that's a shame since I love the royal star (for 1999!!). I'm between jobs right now but when I'm able I'm looking elsewhere. The Kaw is nice I've checked it out twice and since I ride solo the room issue ins't a concern. The Cross country is on my short list too. What bothers me most is that this could signal the end of this group as we all move on tho Victory, Harley and any one else that is making atempts to listen to their fans.
  3. Nope
  4. Just found this on facebook for anyone looking to add a tour pack. Not sure of the location of the poster. BTW this is the first thread I've ever started let me kn ow if I've screwed it up:322: Yamaha Royal Star Venture and Tour Deluxe Fans, and Owners (Photos) Complete top box including speakers, handles, seat. Ready to receive spoiler and luggage rack Yamaha. (Holes are made.) Ideal to transform into a RSTDL RSV or almost ... Leave it to $ 999
  5. Wow you guys live around some BAD drivers. I will say this: I used to ride extremely aggressively on my crotch rocket (R-1 a bike that Yamaha does seem to want to improve on a regular basis) Then I had problems, I was run off the road tailgated etc but. I haven't had that problem in the three years since I've been back in the US and now I'm just riding my RSTD. How about a dirty diaper flying by your head? Happened to me years ago. I pulled up beside the two women in the car and the thrower started apologizing immediately. But who the hell does that?
  6. NEO55m I have a Hoppe fairing and that link appears to be the same. I have also seen a Dragonfly that looks just as good. The pic doesn't show all the hardware needed to mount to the RSTD so be careful. Check the Hoppe site for more details. BTW with all the hardware it is super easy to install the instructions are excellent. Good Luck and thanks for the info on the lights
  7. OK I see you have already started the conversion but did you think of using a second back rest bracket as a base? I have done just that and now I can change from tourpack to no tour pack or use the back rest in less than a minute. BTW the light look great I'm actually doing the same but I am having a hard time getting my hands up under the fender so I guess i'll be taking the tire off. Did you have to do this or did you find another way? Jim
  8. Wow! That is a great job. I wish I could have found a trunk with lights when I did mine. I may have to start looking again. It really looks good. Congrats
  9. Here you go. As you can see I also added the windshield bags. This is the shorter 9" smoked screen I aslo have the 6" and the largest one but I can't remember the size. If I can add anything else just let me know.
  10. OK Sorry about that. The fairing was absolutley no probelm at all the instructions were perfectly clear and guess it took about 90 mins to get the job done.( It was over two years ago.) It was so seemless that I don't even think of it as a mod anymore. Hope that helps.
  11. The way I did it required a lot of work. I bought a used RSTD backrest and had it cut and added the support for underneath. There are less expensive ways to do it but I wanted it to be quick detachable. Now it comes off just like the OEM backrest and I can ride solo or just replace it with the standard backrest. Best of all Worlds.
  12. Big Lenny, It's a Hoppe Quadzilla fairing. I love it. But I have seen a few others that I liked as well. I bought a few different windshields along with it. I did have a few problems with the radio that I bought with it but the fairing is great. BTW Dave How is the trunk going?
  13. Guys I live about six hours away and it was always on my "to do list" so a couple of years ago I took off from work and rode the dragon on a Wednesday. I have to say it was great! I rode it on my 2002 R-1 never got above 40 mph and had the road mostly to myself. Talked to a few locals there and I was briefed here by a guy that lived up there for years. They all told me to stay away from there on the weekends too much craziness!!
  14. Not trying to be the fun police since I like a little rumble myself (and I love my neighbors but still have my pipes cut for a little noise) but if we "push it" then we have to deal with the legislative "push back". Who knows instead of moving they might start passing laws with $350.00 fines attached to them like this bill in NH. I've even read the AMA is figting a proposal to outlaw all aftermarket pipes. Unlike some failed legislative efforts to further limit motorcycle noise, the bill does not require police to stop motorcyclists and use decibel meters to enforce the noise ordinance. But to pass inspection, a motorcycle would have to meet the noise standard and display a sticker proving that it did. The police could stop a bike they believe exceeds the noise limit, check for the sticker and presumably issue a $350 ticket. The American Motorcyclist Association advises against the use of loud pipes because they prejudice the public against motorcycles and cyclists.
  15. Dave, I can't really answer on how much larger the trunk is. I actually used to own a 99 Venture back in 2001-2002 and sold it when uncle Sam sent me to Korea but all I can say is both will hold two full face helmets. This time I was in the market for whichever I could find first and would have gladly taken a venture trunk if the price was right. I never saw the Harley mine came off of but I was told it was an 89. BTW you are right about $2000 vs a new bike and you are a lucky man. I can't get my wife to ride. James
  16. OH yeah it's pretty straight forward. I forgot to add the tour pak has side marker lights so I installed a quick release but thats pretty easy to do.
  17. David, Those numbers are in the right ball park I was lucky enough to find the tour pak for $300.00 then paint and fabrication was another $700.00. I still need to install the lining and add chrome to the bracket , which I'm doing today. I even looked at the Harley LED light kit which is another $469.00 so custom dynamics here I come. You think we'd have just bought the Venture huh? But as much as I like these bikes I don't like the rounded cyclops look of the front fairing. James Good Luck
  18. As promised here are the pictures. I had the work done at a bike shop in Wilmington N.C. I will tell you that after buying the 2nd backrest and the tour pak plus the cost of the fabrication it wasn't cheap. Good Luck!!
  19. I've done just that. I bought a second backrest and had a Harley trunk bracket welded on to it. It been about six months and I love it. I 'll try and get a few pics together tomorrw and post them here. as for the strength, it seems pretty sturdy and my 12 year old rides back there with no problem. He's not a little one either. 5'11" and 140 lbs.
  20. OK now that the pic is the right size here I am with me second RS. First was a 99 Venture.
  21. Thanks Black Owl Ardennes was a killer back then. But the main runs now are on Longstreet rd. The Division has changed so much! BTW I still get out and pound the pavement a little but you could time me with a calendar.
  22. Just had to remind you Hummingbird no airplane's perfect. 26yrs on jump status. Soon to be retiring from the mighty XVIII ABN CORPS!!! With 6yrs in the 82nd and 3 yrs with the 173rd Sky Soldiers. Man do my knees hurt!!!
  23. Dixie, Try this thread it even has pictures. If the link dosen't work search "cyclops". The look of the headlight trim is the reason I went with the RSTD and added a fairing. I thought of doing this myself when I had a venture but I just didn't think it helped much in my eyes. Good luck Jim http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38652&highlight=cyclops
  24. Reno, It arrived today thanks. Now I just have to locate that tour pack!!! Sapper
  25. Reno, Had a little mix up on this end. I sent you a private messege and I can't use the old rah33 anymore as that email box is long closed so now I'm SapperJM. I'll still call you in the AM. Thanx James
