I had to see the license plates on the bikes to be convinced these guys really were from Canada. Gary and Bruce, thanks for being part of the Stampede. And especially Thanks for joing Brenda and I for the train ride. Now I can say I shared it with International dignitaries. Nice meeting you Gents.

Simply put, the dino oil will reduce the service life of the synthetic, which cancels out part of the benefit of the synthetic (i.e. extended service life). That is why it is best to stick with synthetic if that is what you have in your crankcase. If you add a 7,000 mile dino to a 25,000 mile synthetic (for example), you have reduced the service life of the synthetic.

Good question, Sunman. They do make a semi-synthetic which is a blend. The advantage - less expensive than a synthetic. Disadvantage - will not provide as long a service life as synthetic. Why use it? - a trade off between extended drain intervals over a petroleum product, and less cost to install than a synthetic. It gives the consumer a choice. Some folks will never believe that extended drain intervals are acceptable. Some folks believe that modern technology has improved the ability of an engineered molecular composition to provide lubrication that exceeds the ability of fossil oils, and some folks fall inbetween. It gives us all a choice. How to choose? Learn the facts.

You will see lots of bebris. When you come off the bridge there is a large area fenced off, toward Moody Gardens, just piled high with storm trash. Boats all over the place. Buildings in the Strand are gutted. According to the promoters, they are still planning on having the Lone Star Ralley there at the end of the month. They want to try and bring in some commerce to the island. Have a safe ride.

Once you do get a little experience, consider a dive trip to the Texas Flower Gardens. It is the northern most Caribbean reef in the world, and is located about 100 miles south of Freeport. Here is the web site: http://flowergarden.noaa.gov/ There are a couple of charter operators that make trips out there, from a couple of days to a week. One of the best known is: http://www.gulf-diving.com Just be aware this is usually not a "resort" dive. Sometimes conditions can be challenging. But because the Flower Gardens and Stetson Bank are a National Marine Sanctuary, you will be impressed but the size and quantity of fish and coral. Whale sharks and Manta Rays have been seen there. Definitely worth the trip. I suggest you put it on your to-do list.

Glad you discovered the sport. It is a great experience. I took my first dive class in 1964. They didn't really have certifications then, just complete the course and go dive. Got my wife interested a few years back, and now she has her Master Diver cert along with me. Underwater is a whole new world, and each dive is different. To try something really unusual, do a night dive. All you can see is what your light is shining on, but the underwater world goes through a transformation when it gets dark. Some fish actually cacoon up and go to sleep, others come out to feed. Fascinating. Here's to many more memorial dives for you.

Lost power Friday night - got it back last night about 8:30. Thank goodness for the cooler weather that came in. September is not usually a month you want to spend any time in Texas without A/C.

Bad Boy Horns Revisited
Vance replied to Schlepporello's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You might consider routing a hose from the air intake on the horn to a location that stays out of rain/spray/bugs. -

I have both a Clearview windshield with vent, and I have installed a Goldwing vent on my stock windshield. The only way to go. When the weather is real warm (like now) I ride with the stock windshield because it is not as wide at the Clearview, and allows a little more air on my arms. When the weather cools down, the Clearview goes on and does an excellent job. My wife prefers the Clearview because it gets rid of buffeting. Botom line, get the vent.

If it's been a short while since you rode last, the pressure should still be high enough to keep the fuel pump from running. But If it has been sitting a while, you can expect the pump to come on and build the pressure back up.
-
When you first turn the ignition on, before you start the bike, did you hear the fuel pump run and build up fuel pressure?
-
Keep me posted, I would like to hook up with ya'll. Time seems to be flying by. Where has this summer gone? Before long, the folks up north will be burying their bikes in the garage for the winter. We still have several more M&Es to go.

Kenny, Liquids must be in a container no larger than 3.5 ounces each, and all containers must fit in a 1 qt see-through bag, like a zip-lock. There is a section in Wal-Mart that has a variety of items in the small travel size, as well as the "legal" sized zip-lock bags allowed by the TSA (the tansportation security folks). You will take your zip-lock bag of liquids our of your carry-on and place them in a tray to go through the x-ray. Remove all metal items and place them in a tray to go through the x-ray also. Don't forget your watch. Most places also require you to remove your shoes and place them in a tray as well. Be sure to get at the airport at least an hour and a half before your flight leaves. They usually start boarding around 30 minutes before, and you could spen up to 45 minutes getting through security. Don't forget to add some time to park, and take the shuttle to the terminal (not a good word to use when taking a flight) unless you are being dropped off. Having said that, have a nice flight.

OB-1 shouldn't have to justify his results, or validate them. Some of the responses to his post made me feel like I was reading "The Inquisition". Thanks for the report, OB. And thanks for the replys.

Congratualtions, Squidly. Very nice. When you heading to Texas so we can see it? Enjoy.
