EXCLUSIVE! 2009 Venture preview
Vance replied to spear's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That's what happens every time you put a white motorcycle in the wash with a red one. You'll never get that 'pink' out. -
Got mine today. Thank you very much!

Good deal. Here's hoping you enjoy many happy miles. No debate the Goldwing is smoother and quieter. My wife prefers the wing back seat to the Venture. She may have even dozed off back there a time or two. But for me, the Venture is hands down the more comfortable bike. I couldn't do more than about 50 miles on my wing before I had to start squirming. So I went from a wing to a Venture, you went the opposite. Important thing is, we're both still riding. Congratulations on you new ride.

Condor, you owned 5 of what? Didn't know such a thing existed. Looks like a good time. I put this on my "to do" list. Thanks for the info.

Followed all your previous posts about "Cricket".......................about how you were going to 'fix' the chirp............about how you never left things alone, you were not going to rest till it was right because you could fix anything....................then about how you were fed up and selling the bike...................then about how this was the best bike you have ever owned.....................been a Harley rider for years............this Venture was a keeper..............best motorcycle you ever owned................then all of a sudden you no longer own a Venture but traded it in on a Goldwing............best motorcycle you ever owned............has ABS..........lots of pictures..........more than with the Venture.........seems like the Honda is the ultimate. Kit........................are you sure? I am waiting for the first negative post about what is wrong with the Goldwing.

Lighten up, you "brown shoe Navy" boys, that was fun to watch. And everyone knows us Submarine Sailors NEVER did anything not allowed by regs.

Moving passenger headset Plug-in
Vance replied to jimmydsmith7's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
2' might be a little short, Brian. You might try removing your seats, route the existing cable up on top of the fender, then see how far a 2' extension cable will reach. -

What size bolt goes here?
Vance replied to Vance's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Will do, Eck. I thought it just held the bracket, but evidently it's more important than that. Also, thanks for the Parts Manual. I needed one of those. -

The one pictured in the $2 deal doesn't look like a 5 pin plug. Be sure to get the 5 pin or they won't mate up. -

Eck, thanks for going to the trouble of checking that out for me. You wouldn't have happened to notice if it was the same as the upper bolt would you (same length, etc.)? Since I have to get a replacement, I need to know wha to ask for. If it's the same as the upper bolt, I will take it out and find a match. -

Brian, sorry if I made more work for you (acutally it is quite easy to do). But Rosebud's solution looks even easier to accomplish. Either way, your passenger will love the convenience. -
While working on the bike I noticed a bolt missing. It is the lower of the two bolts that hold on the bracket for the rear brake light switch. It can be seen by either looking between the floor board and the frame, or by looking up from underneath. I have a picture of each, if that helps. Can someone tell me what size bolt goes in there? I tried looking in the shop manual, without much luck. Perhaps it is the same size bolt as the upper one.(?)

I got a 5 pin DINN cable. I can't remember where, either Wal-Mart, Office Max, or someplace like that. The shortest I could find was 6', so I had to wrap it around under the passenger seat, but tucked neatly away. Just remove the connector from the side of the fender and direct it underneath the passenger seat. Then plug in the extension, and route the extension up to the location you want. Make sure you don't damage the cable when you install the seat-check for clearance. To make sure everything was good and tight I wrapped some rubber tape around the two connectors for a water tight seal. I like to use the type of tape that does not have glue on it. It is a cold vulcanizing type and sticks to itself real well when you stretch it a bit and wrap it together. -
Thanks for the reply, Tom. I will be getting a set of those. I'm not as concerned about keeping warm as I am about getting some cooling during those summer Texas rides.

Piece of cake. You will need to take the seats off so you can run the extension cable under the passenger's seat. I have a backrest on mine, and just ran the cable up to post to the backrest, and it's tucked in behind the utility pouch that attaches to the back of the backrest. You can purchase an extension audio cable from the places that sell that sort of stuff for about $45. Or, do what I did and get an extension cable for computers for about $5. Works great and is much easier for the wife to use. -
Tom, your vents look clear. The only ones I've seen listed in Yamaha catalogs are tinted. Where did you find the clear ones? By the way, do you have a whole garage just for your Venture?

I also put a bid on one. Let's keep it going.

I also have installed the foam slip-on grips. I like them. They needed to be trimmed (shortened), and look like they belong. Be warned, they don't just slip over the grips like the instruction sheet might have you believe. You will need get the inside real wet and soapy, and then work them on. You need to be careful to get just the inside soapy, and not the outside, or you will not be able to have enough grip (friction) to slide the foam grips on. Takes a little patience and perserverance, but well worth it. I am very pleased with mine.
