I have been running the 777s for about a year-and-a-half now with no major problems and they seem to be wearing well. I don't think they'll last as long as the Michelin commanders that I had on before this but for the price I'm satisfied. Have fun out there!

Oh yeah. Since you already have it torn down the $25 bucks for the washers is well worth it. I would also undercut the second gear dogs for better engagement since there is minimal contact when those gears come together. -
Full disclosure.... I did have to remove: Both exhaust pipes Both side covers Both side bags Seat Bottom assembly (or dogbone) Most of the bolts are fairly accessible at this point except you will need an extension and a universal joint to sneak in on both sides of the top bolt on the shock. Once you release the air hose from the clips on the rear fender it drops right out the bottom. I can't see how it could be easier going out the top. You would have to remove the gas tank and maybe the rear fender to get it out. On re-assembly you do have enough clearance to get your hand in there to put in the top bolt, but you have to use the extension with the universal to start the nut. I put a little grease in the socket to hold it in there until I got the threads started.

I know what you're talking about puc. While the electronic gizmos can make for a more enjoyable ride, there is an element of distraction while you're fiddling with them. I've noticed when I'm resetting my cheapo GPS or even changing the radio station on my aftermarket radio, you do have to take you eyes off the road a bit. You can travel a significant distance during that time. Having handlebar and voice activated control is definitely a plus perhaps a necessity for safety. Common sense plays a factor here as well. Do all your fiddling before you take off or at the next stop.

Holy Moly!!!! Did this thread ever get hi-jacked. (not that I mind, because it has been quite entertaining) Anywaaaaay, ya'all can relax now. The tires and wheels are back on. Mounted (by hand), balanced and back on the bike in about an hour. Heading to the UP tomorrow.

I went with the Shinko 777's. Based on your recent posts I thought I would give em a try. Hope to get at least 10k out of em. That will put me at just over 100k on the odo. I had a Michelin Commander II on the back that picked up the screw. It had 15k on it with about 5k left I guess. Great tire but twice the cost. Of course I don't have the hardware plus the kitchen sink hangin off the back of mine so they probably last a little longer. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk

So I checked the air in my tires last night for a benefit ride today and found a big honkin screw right smack in the middle of rear tire. Needed a front tire soon so I ordered a pair. So it looks like @cowpuc is not the only one spooning tires around here. Unless of course I can get him to ride over here and spoon 'em for me. LOL. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk

Assuming you are a competent wrencher, I guess about two to three hours. The starter is the easiest part but to get at it you need to remove all the lower plastics, the right front exhaust pipe, drain the radiator and remove the hose from the bottom of the radiator before you have enough clearance to get it out of there. You may also need to apply some gentle persuasion to break it free of the lower case if it hasn't been out in while. I did one for a friend on an 89 this spring and I think it was about two and a half hours to get it all bottled up, coolant back in and running.

If you want some serious illumination... this is my setup. Replaced the headlight with a pair of Rigid LED spots as seen in this post Mounted a set of Rigid LED Floods as shown here in post 32. Fabricated the custom brackets for the lights and horn out of aluminum bar stock then polished. Legal? No, but after careful adjustment the oncoming traffic has stopped flashing me!!! -

Thanks for the help guys. I have the parts now and will be tackling the job this week or next. The write up seems pretty straightforward so I expect little difficulty. (I hope I haven't jinxed myself here) -
I mow 4.5 acres on a Ferris Zero with a 52" deck and a 25hp Kawasaki. I have been using it for 12 years now and it runs great. Takes me about 2 hours. I will probably have it for a while since I can't seem to kill it! I would also consider a front deck type if I were to replace it for the same reasons, getting under the trees, etc.. I have a couple buds who have used the Woods for many years with no problems at all other than routine maintenance. The guys I know have the models with the little diesel engines on them that they claim will run forever. I think you'll be happy with that one Don.
