  1. Thanks for the info.
  2. We have a winner! RDawson, the bar is coming your way! Thanks everyone for playing along. BTW, what is the status of Puc? I had the pleasure of attending one of his FREE HOT DOG events and it was a blast!
  3. Hello all, It's been a while since I've been on but this place has been a treasure fro me when working on both my 83 and my 2004. When I crashed that 83 after hitting a deer about 8 years ago it was with help from Bongo and Puc that landed me the parts to fix it and neither of them would take dime for them, not even for the shipping. That is why I am offering up this light bar and lights for an RSV at NO CHARGE to the member that has the most creative reason why they should have it. I would give the condition about 8-9 out of 10 and you will have everything you need but the wiring and switch. (That's not rust in the pics, it's a reflection of my shirt) I'll let this go for two weeks and then I'll pick a winner.
  4. Definitely the ram x mount. I've been using it for several years and no issues Sent from my motorola one using Tapatalk
  5. I can see the logic in that decision Sent from my motorola one using Tapatalk
  6. Just put on my new plate. Sent from my motorola one using Tapatalk
  7. Yes, I think they stick out more than 1 inch. I lowered them an inch from the original position. I do not have any clearance problems even when bottoming out the shocks. Sent from my motorola one using Tapatalk
  8. Well as it appears we're both right or wrong, however you look at it. Here are some pictures of my setup. One thing I forgot to mention is that I do have the handlebar risers on there that bring the handlebars out of the way for the clearance.I didn't have to reroute the cabling or the hydraulics. There's plenty of extra slack in there if you just pull it up out of the way. Sent from my motorola one using Tapatalk
  9. I will photograph today and post for you.
  10. I've been following that guy for over five years and I can attest that although he is similar, he is definitely not a "PUC" This guy is the only PUC! https://youtu.be/sqG86osAGMU
  11. The tubes on my RSV are exactly 1 inch higher than tree with no clearance problem. Sent from my motorola one using Tapatalk
  12. Doing great. Having sold the blonde 83 last year I've been riding an 04 midnight venture and loving it. I don't check in to the forum very often but I do keep track of what's going on. Always a great source of information and a great bunch of guys and gals.
  13. And thank you too Puc. Just like Bongo you too offered up the parts for free. Something I will never forget and will continue to pay forward with gratitude. Have fun out there!
  14. Let me tell you about Bongo. Of course to those who knew him this is no surprise. About three years ago, I crashed my 83 when a deer jumped out in from of me. The bike skidded down the roadway and the left side of the fairing was toast along with some other parts. I had posted about the crash here and a forum member suggested that I put up a parts list of the stuff I needed as many members had parts bike laying around. I did, and much to my surprise about three days later I received two boxes from the UPS guy, one with the left fairing complete with the turn signal in nearly perfect condition. It was from Bongo. The other was from Puc. Between the two of them I had all the parts I needed for the repair. When I contacted Bongo I asked what I owed him and he said zero. He wouldn't even take money for the shipping that was nearly $40 bucks. That's the way he was, a true gentleman. I did covertly send him the shipping cost via PayPal and also sent a nice sampler of smoked meats as a thank you, knowing that I could never repay his gratitude. May you rest in peace Bongo. You will surely be missed. This is a fine example of the folks you find here on this forum. May peace be with his family and friends. Have fun out there!
  15. Not for me but thanks for the offer! Have fun out there!
  16. Anybody out there have a new Venture Rider guardian bell they would like to sell? I contacted Don and he is still looking for his misplaced supply. Have fun out there!
  17. Yes. I made the horn/light brakets out of aluminum and then just polished them out. For the headlight, I used as much of the original bracket as possible so I could still use the dash height adjustment knob. All the headlight required was a spacer block underneath attached to the bottom part of the stock bracket.
  18. Congrats! I am hoping the time flies by as I have 5 more years left before I can join the crowd.
  19. I went with the Rigid Dually Floods for extra light as shown here then I replaced the headlight with a pair of Dually spots as described here This creates some serious illumination to the sides and at distance.
  20. You will be nixing the stock adjustment knob. I will post some photos of my install the next time I have the front cover off the fairing. Its really quite simple once you see it. In the meantime Ill see if I can find a suitable photo from the internet to use as an aid.
  21. I installed these very lights and they are indeed much brighter even without the passing lights. I removed the stock housing and bulb then used only the outer mounting ring that comes with the kit. Just carefully center the bracket and drill and tap 3 holes for the adjustment screws adjust and you're good to go. Measuring the exact position of the stock bulb before disassembly would help a lot when adjusting. For me it was about an hour job Have fun out there!
  22. I know what you mean. I had a teardrop in my eye when she went down the driveway.
  23. It is with a heavy heart that I parted with my '83 today. She has been a fine old girl that has taken me some 50k miles including a trip to Galena for the the international in 2014. A young man came by today and took it for a test ride then she was gone! I am sure he will have many miles of enjoyment as did I. He asked why I was selling and I had to be honest with him. If it weren't for orders from headquarters, I would be keeping it. You see... I just can't keep TWO bikes, (her rule, not mine) So I am proud to announce that I am now the owner of a 2004 Midnight Venture. I've had it for a few weeks now and have put about 1k on it. I'm sure it will be posting about it soon. This forum has already been a great source of information on this fine machine as it was when I got the '83. Pics coming soon!
  24. I consistently get 42 ish when commuting to work 44 miles round trip. 2 up on longer trips I get 45 to 48 consistently on my 83. I have the Skydoc shims installed and keep the carbs super tuned. Have fun out there!
