  1. This is one of many reasons I ride a venture. I'm sure we've all noticed post that are "Venture Sightings" and I like them. Yea we talk about we wish Yamaha would do more to promote the Venture and update it and there is alot of validity to those comments but at the same time, if they were as common as HD & GW I probably wouldn't be riding one. That's just my style. I'll bet you don't see post on the HD & GW sites of ____ Sighting! Throw that in with the other compliments that I find about my Venture and I like my bike even more. No bashing here, just an observation.
  2. I got about 14000 on my oem 404's and decided that was good enough for the price. S0--- I went back with 404's and got only 6000 on the rear!:thumbdown:Replaced the rear with a Dunlap E3 which gets better reviews. I was really disappointed in the rear 404 replacement.
  3. I use the generic for Pledge from Dollar General for either $1 or $1.50 (can't remember which) for a 12.5 oz. can.
  4. Don't remember what happened to mine. We actually had some cooked meals on our artillery firebase (hill 260) outside DaNang 71-72.
  5. If you are in extreme western Ky. ride the Trace in Land Between The Lakes. 60 miles of no houses, no commercial traffic and beautiful scenery. Good restaurants on either the north (Grand Rivers. Ky.) or south (Dover, Tn.) end. We ride that area from my house frequently and can make a good 5 hr. ride including the Trace + more good roads. Included on the Trace are picnic areas and a few places to visit such as the 1880's Homeplace. A welcome station on each end will give other information.
  6. Is there any truth to a helmet being unsafe after it is 4 years old? Was at a dealers today buying a shield and when I told him the helmet was 6 years old he said it was time to replace it and showed me a card attached to a new helmet that said safe life of 4 years. I bought a shield because my helmet seems fine and I have an intercom in it and not looking to replace it. It did get me thinking though. So, what's the scoop, anything to it or is it a company scam?
  7. Good catch Guns! Did a little time myself around Hue/Phu Bi on some artillery hills. Best to ya.
  8. It always amazes me how many post turn up when HD is mentioned. Oh well, I guess I'm playing into that as well. However, let me say first of all that the definition of "Jerk" in the dictionary does not say "see Harley rider". Jerks come in all types. Secondly, so someone doesn't wave at you, so what!???? You can only be intimidated if you allow it to happen to you. I learned to stand on my own two feet along time ago. I ride a rsv because I think it is the best ride for my style for the $. I could care less about someone else's attitude that they can't ride anything but a certain brand because of intimidation. That is their weakness, not mine. I really like my rsv and it will likely be the bike that sees me out. As far as a dealer telling me to move my ride if it isn't the brand they are selling, that hasn't happened and won't in most cases. But, if I selling new Mustangs and someone parks in the front door with a new Camaro I can understand me hoping others don't start looking at the Camaro instead of my Mustangs. Same with my rsv! Get over the HD mindset already and ride what you want, even if it is a HD! We should have left the intimidation world in our teen years!

  10. Thanks Monty. Yes that is it! I am the guy in the middle on the pole. That picture was made on an artillery firebase as we were getting ready to leave Nam. The other pictures are from the same event. I am also in the one with the artillery piece standing on the bunker. Once again, what are the odds 38 years later of that picture appearing on a newspaper in Oregon? Thanks again. Bill
  11. Well, the fact is, I have it on e-mail but I don't have a clue how to get it on this site as I am not very savy in this stuff. Someone tell me how and I'll give it a whirl. Otherwise, you'll just have to take my word for it or it might be viewed by looking up the Oregonian, I just don't know. By the way, they did send me a copy of the paper after I requested one and told them who I was.
  12. Something unique recently happened to me that I thought I would share with my fellow Venture riders. On the Sunday Jan. 31, 2010 edition of The Oregonian newspaper out of Portland there is a picture of some GI's from Viet Nam in 1972. I am the soldier in the middle on the pole taking the flag down. Kinda strange that picture would appear 38 years later in a west coast newspaper and an old boy from Ky. is in it. There is a connection since the GI to my right has a brother that now works for the paper and was also in Viet Nam. But still, what are the odds??? Just wanted to share. Bill
  13. WARNING! YOU'LL FALL IN LOVE!
  14. I live in the western end of the state and will be glad to show you around or give you tips on our area but if you are coming in from Indiana you are not likely to get over this far west. On this web site you will find a planned m&e Memorial Day weekend based out of Lexington and led by Midrsv. I'd say a must would be the horse farm areas outside of Lexington (lots of good mc roads) and then another must would be the Red River Gorge/Natural Bridge area southeast of Lexington. If you could possibly hook up with us on MD weekend you could ride with the group. I'm sure others from across the state will post but if I can be of further assistance and if you find yourself coming through my area give me a call. We can put together 3 days of good riding around here easy enough. Bill

  16. Don, we've never officially met but a couple of things I want to say are that first, I am concerned about your health. I will pray for you and wish you the best. Secondly, I want to thank you for providing this web site that is friendly and informative. Bill
  17. Mid June should catch most schools out. Personally, I'd like to see mid to late Spt./early Oct. but my attendance is somewhat questionable anyway.
  18. Gonna try to make this one. The Hub sounds good, cooler time is also a good idea.
  19. I bought my Yamaha trunk rack off E-Bay, new, in the box. So ---- you might check there.
  20. I lurk more than post but I was hoping to hear the news that it will be in that area next year. I wanted to make it this year but couldn't. I'm going to put it on my calendar for a must thing to do next year and Lord willing I'll be there. Already looking forward to it!
  21. Indiana riders help please. I am planning a ride out of Evansville north on Indiana 57, catch 59 at Clay City and continue north to the Carbon area. Then, head south on 59 and take 46 east to Nashville. From there take 135 to 58 to 37 south to 66, which is listed as scenic byway west back to Evansville. I'm not going to ride hard and will probably take 3-4 days to do this, taking in the must see places as we travel. If you know of any must see places or restaurants along this route I would appreciate the information. I understand you have some nice scenery, especially in Brown County and am looking forward to the trip. This could happen this month as soon as the 17th - 20th or perhaps 24th - 27th. Time line is still undecided. Thanks and if you ever get in the Sedalia area of western Ky. let me know and I'll be happy to give you some hints or lead you on a ride. Bill
  22. Thanks Kevin. Yea, I agree about somewhere safe. I think "old timers" is setting in with me though so I don't know where that would be.
  23. Same as stated before. I have had no problems without any precautions while riding in the rain. I do avoid spraying water on the speakers though. PS From Cattlesburg? You should have joined us for that central Ky. ride this past weekend. It was great.
  24. I lost my key at a routine rest stop this past weekend. I looked everywhere back tracking my steps but it just wasn't found. I couldn't believe I had lost it and we were 2 1/2 hours from home. Fortunately I had a spare hidden on the bike that had been there for a few years and never used. That saved our weekend. My lesson learned was that I will always have a spare key hidden on the bike and my in use key will be on a key chain. The rest of the story is that on our return trip we stopped at the rest stop and the lost key had been found and turned in. I'll never know how it got out of my pocket or who found it and turned it in but I learned a lesson. Bill
  25. I cannot say enough good things about the weekend we had on this ride. Dennis and Valerie were great host with a well arranged schedule of riding and eating. We met such wonderful people that are now considered life long friends. The group from Indiana was a joy to ride with and socialize with. What great folks they are. We also met others from the Lexington area that made our trip more special. The riding was fantastic through the horse farm area and Red River Gorge area. We were saddened to hear of John and Teresa's accident but am thankful it wasn't worse than it was although anytime you go down on a motorcycle it is not good. They are special people for sure and our continued prayers go out for them. Now to the key. Two and a half hours away from home I lost my key at a rest stop. I have no idea how or where. Luckly I had an extra hidden away on the bike, of course never thinking I might realy ever need it. It was a weekend saver for us. Now I will never travel again without a spare key AND I will always keep my key on a key chain. Now for the "gooder" news. We stopped at the rest stop on our return trip and some one had found the key and turned it in. My utmost respect and gratitude to this unkown person. Bill
