  1. This may be a little far but the ride back would be nice in better weather than now. Abernathy's in Union City, Tn. has their 2011 S listed for 16,494. They also show an 06 in their used department. You can check them out on line. I think you'll like the RSV. Good luck in your search.
  2. Very pretty Bob but what's all that white stuff on the ground? Merry Christmas!
  3. That's about $35 cheaper than I recently got an E3 rear mounted for (on the bike).
  4. You'll get all kinds of answers on this, some by professionals, some by self proclaimed professionals and some that don't really know what is best but can only speak from experience. I'm in the last group and all I can say is for 5 years I have not turned mine off and I have not had a problem so far.
  5. My choice rating in touring bikes is ---- 1. RSV 2. GW 1800 3. BMW 4. Vision 5. Voyager 6. HD Don't see that changing.
  6. I had forgotten about this post and noticed a 2 second shot of a RSV on the commercial last evening. I don't usually "tune in" to commercials but the RSV got my attention. I kicked in the dvr a few times and even paused it. Great job and good to see a RSV in a commercial. I wish Yamaha would catch on to putting RSV's in commercials. They might even upgrade.
  7. He was beside me at a red light and swithced to my lane behind me when the light turned. Traffic was slow and someone rear ended him while behind me. I saw it all in my mirrow. He stayed on his feet somehow as the bike went tearing and rolling into the other lane. Lots of bike damage but the rider seemed fine. How he rode it out on his feet was impressive. Bike parts all over the road. In one sense, he was lucky.
  8. Thanks Goose for the input. I usually do take it for a ride or let it run awhile although I don't know that it is always 30 minutes. I pick my days that are warm enough to ride but in January/February I may not find one in a two week period so it just sits. Bill
  9. I add Seafoam, fill the tank up, hook up the battery tender and start it up every couple of weeks. It's worked so far. To be honest, all that may not be necessary because I have tractors that sit all winter with nothing done to them and they fire up in the spring just fine. I do believe a full tank prevents rust.
  10. Bought my 06 in 06 and have been very pleased with it. It handles 2 up with ease and is a comfortable ride. Yes, they are a little heavy in a praking lot or at slow speed but that also makes it a good road bike. Durable as a tank! I don't think you'll be disappointed. 40 mpg is probably the average for most RSV's. Look around and you'll find a deal. Also, this web site is a real + for owners.
  11. Veteran's Day. I never got the day off in 38 years of work but some get it off that never had a uniform on except maybe Boy Scouts. It just always bothered me a little. Nam 71-72. (Not bitter, just bothered)
  12. Thanks to all who offered a helmet holder or suggestions. I'm going to take B2dad up on his offer and he lives close by. Thanks again fellow riders. Bill
  13. :sign yeah that:I don't understand the threat to switch to hd or gw or whatever if changes aren't made soon. For the SAME $ I would still be riding a RSV even without f/i, cd, ??? I like the ride and style and like riding something as proven as the RSV and like riding a bike that isn't so populated.
  14. Anyone have a left side helmet holder you'd part with? I know my key probably wouldn't fit it but that's ok since I don't use them anyway. I put on a strip light and used the helmet holders to secure it and didn't check to keep them tight and the left one fell off. I would like to get it back original if possible. PM me if you have an extra. (06 RSV) Thanks. Bill
  15. :confused24:In Kentucky it's the time in the fall when we are waiting for basketball season to begin.
  16. While I agree that there should be laws against phone/text use while driving ( and we have such on texting in Ky.) the problem is the people that do these things with a total disregard for others. We can't legislate every little or big area of stupidity or responsibility. Just because we don't have laws country wide doesn't excuse this total lack of responsibility. Can't blame the government for everything although they have more than their share. AND, how can the texting law be enforced before the fact anyway???
  17. 50 years ago in our rural area most people in cars waved at other people in cars. One reason was there were much fewer cars on the road and another reason was it was a slower society. People were more friendly. As the number of motorcycles increases you will naturally meet more that won't wave for one reason or another. Brand names has little to do with it. It's all about attitudes. If I wave, and I do most of the time, and they don't wave back, so be it. It doesn't ruin my ride. I also don 't feel obligated to wave at every motorcycle I meet. Be safe and enjoy the ride, that's what counts.
  18. Remember, this is 1999 technology and won't change until a 3rd. gen tourer comes out, if ever. Tape decks were hot items in 99.
  19. I will pray for you and hurt for what you are going through until the news of your health gets better. Best wishes always. Bill
  20. Oil changes are not emergencies therefore I would like to hear how they responded to someone with an emergency before I black balled them. I am disappointed with them in the parking lot deal. There are times when common sense needs to prevail.
  21. The CB antenna on a 2G is prone to break off at the plastic midway point. Just saying that's what might have happened. If so, I have read on this forum where it may be covered by warranty. Mine broke when I hung it on a low overhead door but I was able to get the plastic piece milled and it works fine. You might check with your dealer per chance it broke on its own. Look through the forum and I believe you'll find evidence of them being covered under warranty and with an 06 your warranty is still good.
  22. For insight and appreciation let me give an account of our ride today. I'll be as brief as possible. First of all, Freezy Rider (Joe & Donna) and another fine couple were in W. Ky. last evening on their way back from their Arkansas ride. We, along with another local couple (JMC) met up with them and had a great evening visiting. We decided to get in a local nice ride this morning before F/R and companions headed back to Indiana. We got an early start (6:30) and it was a great morning to ride. About half way through the planned 3-4 hr. ride things got interesting. Joe picked up a piece of metal in a nearly new E3 rear and we were 35 miles from adequate help. The tire was obviously unrepairable for any long distance. My first appreciation comes from Joe's obvious skills and the 1800 GW's design to remove the rear wheel. It would have taken me having a hoist and mega tools to remove the rear on my RSV. Second appreciation: while waiting for Joe to return from the 70 mile round trip to get a new tire mounted we decided to go to a local restaurant to get out of the heat. Joe had taken my bike so that meant if I was going to go I was going to be a PASSENGER! First of all, to be honest that didn't thrill me as a straight male. Now if you can ride two male up and it doesn't bother you, so be it! But now for the real appreciation. Fellows, let me tell you that their is no way our female companions can enjoy the ride as much as we do! First of all, your field of vision is 10 o:clock and 2 o:clock unless you want to look like an owl and then you might get in a brief 9 & 3! The rest of the vision is a helmet! (and I'm pushing 6'2") Also, I had no control and felt like I was going to fall off the entire short (2 mile ) trip. I DIDN'T LIKE IT! There is much more to this story but I'll let Joe tell it if he wants. But after a 6 hour delay Joe and company headed towards Indiana and we headed towards home and for me, a whole new prospective on 1800 GW's and back seat passengers! All in all, it was a day of memories we shared with good friends and I wish Joe and company a safe ride home and will look forward to seeing them again. (Now Donna, if you want to post the picture I can handle it!) Bill
  23. Thanks Steve & Irene for the great pictures. Also, good meeting and riding with you. Bill & Marilyn
  24. We had a great meal and enjoyed looking at some nice bikes (HD, Rocket 3, GW, and a bunch of sharp RSV's. Met all good people. Thanks to B2's for opening up their home and being such good host.
  25. Nice ride Joe. I'm looking forward to a better view next weekend.
