  1. Can't say which is best and you'll get lots of opinions but I run Yamaha oil in mine and have gotten good miles out of Dunlap E3's. Don't know about speakers cause my stocks are fine with me.
  2. I have both and like them. I get alot of use out of the Yamaha rack when traveling plus I like the way it looks. I also have the Yamaha running lights and like those as well. I bought both off e-bay in the neighborhood of $100 each. Both fairly easy to install.
  3. Shoot, we haven't gotten over the Laitner (sp) shot yet and you bring up a 2012 game??? But anytime we play the Heels or the Devils we go in mourning if we lose.
  4. Sorry, but we don't discuss college football in Kentucky so I can't help ya. But if you want to talk round ball --------------although nothing to brag about so far this year.
  5. It was a few days before Christmas in 1971. I had arrived in Viet Nam in late October and for some reason I had not received any mail and had no contact with home since those were the days before internet and cell phones and there were no telephones on my artillery fire base. I longed for a word and knew that there had to be some mix up because I knew I should be receiving letters. I had been writing consistently but nothing in return. Mail call was always a disappointment but each day I would anxiously await the arrival of letters and packages hoping one would be for me but nothing came. I grew more disappointed as November passed into December. Then one day, a few days before Christmas, I pulled myself to mail call again and it was like manna from heaven! Mail call was all about me! My buddies on the hill even got a kick out of all the times the mail clerk called out "Kinsey" when handing out letters. I even received a box that I later learned had a real home baked chocolate cake in it. Many of those letters were from my young wife and other family members but also there had been a letter writing campaign from my little home town. I posted those letters and cards all over my bunker and low and behold the mail continued to come until I left Nam the next fall. I'll never forget that Christmas and that much needed contact with my family and little home town. Those cards and letters were some of the most precious gifts I could have received.
  6. Hey Creole, typically that time of the year is good riding weather here of course that varies with rain and can be a little cool. I recommend riding the Trace in Land Between the Lakes if possible. It runs north/south and is about 60 miles long. Non commercial traffic, no businesses or houses and a nice ride. If you ride south on the Trace you will come out at Dover, Tn. where Ft. Donaldson from the Civil War is a nice stop and a trip to Paris Landing just a few miles west is very pretty and eating at the Lodge is a nice setting with good food. If you ride north you will come out in Grand Rivers, Ky. just off I24 and a trip to Patti's is a must. I live in far western Ky. near a little town called Sedalia a couple of hours from the cave. If you pass through my area you are welcome to try looking me up. I say try cause I'm on the move alot. . Hope you have a great trip and if I can be of assistance let me know. Bill
  7. Prayers and best wishes sent to Larry.
  8. Bought my E3 from Jake Wilson off the internet. Free shipping, took 2-3 days to deliver. After 9000 miles it still has lots of tread and I like the ride.
  9. I have a Bestem LGYA VNTUR TRB which translates to " Bestem large Yamaha Venture trunk bag" that you can google and find on the internet. I bought mine off e-bay for around $40. I do like it for the various compartments it has and storage capacity. It has a rain cover to go with it. Works good on my trunk rack.
  10. If it is small enough to be under the deck then Roundup should kill it. Or, anything you can think of that would kill a small tree or grass such as salt, diesel, oil product, etc. should kill it. No need to buy a brush killer because you should be able to come up with something you already have that will get the job done.
  11. Thanks for the good report on the Trace. That is on my bucket list now that I have ridden the BRP. Been doing a little recent research and your report was very timely. I noticed on another post that it might be a good detour to get off and go to Dismal Canyon near Russelville, Al. while riding the Trace. Thanks again.
  12. After reading the post about the recent death on the Dragon I am going to confess. I had much rather ride roads where I can view the scenery than fight a bunch of curves. My style of riding is cruising and being able to see in the distance. When I ride curves such as the Dragon I don't enjoy it and get nothing out of it. I know it seems most riders like the curves and that is their world of motorcycling but it is not mine. Am I the oddball or are their others? Give me a straight road and a few sweeping curves are ok and elevation where I can see out and I am one happy rider. Leave the switchbacks to someone else. My2c. Bill
  13. Just pd 60 at our local shop.
  14. For me it is leather out and mesh in especially in hot weather. I too feel cooler in my mesh jacket that breaths air than a t-shirt and feel a little more security as well. Leather is not cool.
  15. It was good to see old friends again and meet new ones. Thanks Dennis and Valarie for the hospitality and time. Bill
  16. Wow Bob, this is like attending your own funeral. Thanks for those kind words. I was "out of pocket" this weekend. Getting ready to head to the BRP on May 22 with a couple of other riders and then loop back to Lexington for Dennis & Valerie's M & E.
  17. The root of most Harley bashing does not have much to do with the bikes. If you could really uncover the bashing it would have alot to do with the Harley attitude that some have that if you're not riding a Harley you don't quite measure up to real motorcycling. Some take offense to that attitude and as a result bash. There is brand loyality in all brands but a motorcycle is just a motorcycle. The character of the rider is what counts and there is good and bad riding all brands. But Harley bashing is driven by attitudes in most cases and not quality.
  18. You can find a little British humor on the You Tube video of the manufacture of a Triumph Rocket III. I don't know how to post it on here to save you time but if you need a chuckle then check it out. Also shows some pretty good riding.
  19. My heart feels for you and your family. Prayers sent.
  20. "Memories, like the corners of my mind, misty water colored memories, of the way it was" Hey Joe, we still have that ride to complete (without the screw in the tire) if you ever get back down this way. The only whine I heard that day was what they charged you for the tire:confused24: and that whine was legit!
  21. I'm about your size and I like my Venture and the room it gives me. I may be outdated but the carbs v EFI is not a deal breaker to me. The RSV engine gives me plenty of get up and go even with me and my wife on. The bike has been very durable and has only needed general maintenance to this point with 27000 miles. Mine either doesn't have the whine or I am tone deaf to it. It is a comfortable ride.
  22. Hey Dennis, The storms have passed us and are headed your way. We came out untouched as most of it went north of us. Lots of wind today. Take care. Bill
  23. My wife had a kidney removed 6 years ago because of cancer and has done fine since. Has a clean bill of health and can't tell the difference in having one kidney and two. Best to your daughter and God's speed.
  24. Yep, those black cherries are the fastest aren't they!
  25. Thanks for sharing some great photos.
