  1. 196th Infantry 71-72 on various firebases with Red Horse Artillery. Reunion this summer in D.C. and saw some of my buddies I had not seen in 41 years. Time marches on. Memories fade but are never forgotten. God, Country, Family, Friends!
  2. Masters + 30 all on the G.I. Bill. Served in Nam with 196 Inf. 71-72.
  3. I found my Yamaha light bar and trunk rack on e-bay for a much reduced price. I do like the quality but Yamaha price is a bundle to swallow. As for as adding things that, as has been said, is a personal choice. I am more the vanilla rider although I will add stuff for comfort (back rest) or safety (light bar front & rear plus rear lighted spoiler) and I do fly the flag but that is also an attention getter coming up from the rear. It has been six years since I found those things on e-bay so I am not sure how available they are today.
  4. I lost a hinge pin out of the trunk hinge on my 06. Any suggestions for a replacement and how to secure it? Thanks. Bill
  5. We stayed one night at the Little Switzerland Inn in Little Switzerland, NC and had a nice stay. That is right on the parkway. That's kind of a neat little area with some shops and a very good restaurant, especially if you like shrimp. I've also stayed at a couple of campgrounds in little "cabins" that were inexpensive but comfortable. One was in Shatley Springs, NC which is off the parkway a ways but worth the trip to eat in the restaurant that accompanies the cabins. The parkway is a good ride but the weather can turn against you quickly.
  6. I also like Jake Wilson. They ship free and I've always gotten mine in a couple of days.
  7. And here we have been thinking all along that Yamaha wasn't staying on the cutting edge of technology trends. They knew all along what they were doing by keeping the cassette deck in the Venture! Next up: a return to CARBS and no ABS!
  8. The reasons I would not own a Harley are: 1. Over priced when quality is compared. 2. I like being a little different. 3. The "Harley attitude" turns me off. I was asked once why I didn't support this country and ride a Harley. My reply was, "have you ever heard of the ASHAU VALLEY? I put 11 months in that hell hole so I have enough self confidence to ride any bike I prefer and I prefer my Venture, which by the way, I bought locally." I fly the U.S. flag proudly 24/7!
  9. My wave usually includes a thumbs up if I see those "eyebrows" coming. 1st gens are harder for me to detect. (I know, probably going too fast!)
  10. I have an 06 RSV and I've noticed that the older I get the less the whine is noticeable.
  11. Although this doesn't diagnose the problem some can be reset by unhooking the battery cable.
  12. It takes two motions to close the trunk properly. Don't force it on the first try but back up and try again. Keep a check on all bolts for tightness. Hide a spare key on the bike.
  13. I'd like to think I'm more mature than that. Simple answer - NO. Give me the open road, a good ride and my circle of friends who are not drunks. I'm many, many years from those events.
  14. Mine doesn't have the whine or I'm tone deaf to the sound. Also, I think some people have a higher tolerance than others. Before I'd throw in the towel I'd ride one and see what you think if I were you. I have an 06 with 32,000 miles on it and if I trade it will be for another RSV. It is a great touring bike as well as a local runner. The V4 is a sweet running engine.
  15. I don't know what some of these guys experience is in but trust me, when going for a job in the education market you do need a cover letter in most cases. As Bob stated, keep it from being too lengthy, but content, as I stated before, is important. Anyone that would throw away a resume because of a cover letter is short sighted when it comes to hiring quality.
  16. I'll give you a little free advice from someone who has been on the other side of the fence in receiving resumes. In your cover letter sell yourself and what you think you can do for for the school. Be innovative but not too radical on how you will go about achieving the task. Brag on the institution and how much you would like to be a part of it. Discuss your positive work ethics and attitude and what assets you will bring to the position. Be goal oriented and company minded. Good luck. Bill
  17. If you haven't already done so you might try typing in "2006 Yamaha Venture for sale" on google search and see if anything comes up in your area. E-bay has them from time to time and you might try local Yamaha dealers. This site is also a good source because members here will start looking and listening now. I wish you the best and you are looking for one sweet ride when looking for a Venture.
  18. sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
  19. I have all four (side bags, trunk, trunk rack). The only problem I have had is the zipper tab has broken on three of the pockets on the trunk rack bag. They are evidently low quality zippers. The bags are fine and serviceable.
  20. I have Foremost but I can't help you because I've never had a claim. $150 yr. liability only.
  21. Perhaps a "heads up" would have let us know what was happening before panic set in. I'm fine with them and always know I'm not obligated to click on them.
  22. Good question but my answer is yes, I think I would. I don't get hung up on the tape deck and carbs like some do and I really like my Venture. For the $$, in my opinion, it is the best buy on the market.
  23. back rest, trunk rack, running lights and flying Old Glory on the trunk rack for two reasons; patriotic and attention getter for traffic from behind.
  24. As stated, I40 is a pretty ride but it can get crowded especially on the curves with the trucks. When I rode it there wasn't much time to look at the scenery because you had to concentrate on traffic. There are lots of less traveled roads in that area to ride including the BRP although March may not be the best time to ride it. You could always try I40 and get off if you don't like it.
  25. I do alot of one up riding and like my Venture whether riding locally or traveling the extra storage is nice and the I gotta have the radio, cb, etc.
