  1. Don't get me wrong, I like my RSV to the point I'm not looking to trade but if/or when I go to a trike I'll go with a Goldwing because of reverse and the cc's. No plans to go to a trike but time changes things.
  2. Dennis, we are going to try to make it but don't plan a ride around us just in case we can't. However, I have always heard about the Red River Gorge area. Is that a possible ride for Sunday from exit 110?
  3. Hey fellow riders, you've perked up my interest. I live in far western Ky. but that is a trip I'm certainly not going to dismiss at this time. Sounds like a good time to be had. Keep us posted. Bill
  4. 13500 out of my oem Dunlaps. Mielage depends on several variables though. About 1/2 of the 13500 was two up.
  5. I like my 06 and if there is a whine it is either out of my tone range, comprehension range or sensitivity range. Regardless, I like my RSV and recommend them.
  6. Thanks for the replies. I'll certainly plan on riding some if not all of those suggestions. The good thing about my riding schedule these days if flexibility. I've recently retired so our plans can hinge on the weather outlook. We have not nailed down dates in June but probably the first half of the month. I'll try to let you know when the time comes. I always enjoy meeting fellow Venture riders. Thanks again. Bill
  7. In june I am planning to ride north on US 41 to the Terre Haute area, then possibly take US 40 east to US 231 and head south to Owensboro, Ky. I have a few days available for this trip. I have heard riding this part of Indiana is a good ride. I would appreciate any input as to places that are must see, places to eat, roads to ride, etc. Also, anything to avoid such as traffic, construction, etc. Thanks. Bill
  8. I also have the OEM Yamaha rack and like it for looks and use. I think the tag on the rack says not to exceed 10 lbs which covers what I put in the bag. I bought the rack $95 and the waterproof bag $35 on e-bay. The only accessories I add to my bike are for comfort (back rest), safety (extra lights) and use (rack and travel bags). I recommend a trunk rack.
  9. When we travel we try not to ride long distances where it becomes work instead of pleasure. That distance is different for all but for us a long day is 400 miles. We (wife and me) can pack enough to run a week with the understanding, as someone said, you can do alot of motorcycling with two pair of jeans and the option to wash if needed. We take breaks when we want one so we don't pack water, eats, etc. I bought the travel bags for the saddle bags and the trunk and added the trunk rack where we use a water proof trunk rack bag. We get alot of use out of our trunk rack and I really recommend one. The travel bags make it handy when pulling in for the night. Rain suits (Frogg Toggs for us) are a must. We prefer to stay off the interstates and ride to enjoy the ride not see how far we can go in a day. Bike prep is a must and the member list from this site is the best tool you can carry. Happy traveling and if you ever pass through W. Ky. give us a "holler".
  10. I didn't realize at the time how much being in a combat artillery unit in Nam would help with the whine of my RSV. What whine?
  11. I bought mine new off E-Bay so you might check there. It is the one made by Yamaha for the RSV and I like it for looks and use.
  12. It does sound like a fuel problem. It could be something as simple as a stopped up fuel filter although one wouldn't think so on a bike that new unless you got into some bad gas or you have mega miles on an 06. Good luck on a quick turn around on getting it going again.
  13. As I have said before, some people ride Harleys because they like them just like I like my RSV but then some people ride Harleys because they don't have enough self confidence to ride anything else, even if they liked it better. I left that kind of peer pressure in Viet Nam!
  14. People ride Harleys for 1 of 2 reasons. One is, they like they bike and that is what they want to ride. That is a good reason and it is the reason I ride a Venture and that is ok in any bike world. The #2 reason some ride Harleys is because they don't have enough self confidence to ride something else. That's it in a nut shell!
  15. I rode to Garden of the Gods yesterday and was on 24 at Paducah but that was in the am. There were 7 motorcycles in our group, 2 RSV's, 1 GW, 2 HD, 1 V-Star and a Honda Shadow. I know it wasn't us you saw but just thought I'd touch base with another local RSV rider. The weather was great for riding and we had a good day. We crossed the river coming back at Cave-In-Rock and rode 135/137 back to US 60. Maybe our paths will cross some time.
  16. I bought an 06 RSV after considering going the GW route and have no regrets. I think you'll be pleased with an RSV. If you don't mind traveling, check out the prices at Abernathy's in Union City, Tn. They are on line. Also, Town & Country in Murray, Ky. will try to beat Abernathy's but aren't always successful. Abernathy's had them for 14,700 not long ago.
  17. I'm only suggesting this because I was guilty when I first got my RSV. I'm not suggesting you don't know better. You do have the speakers turned on don't you?
  18. Duct tape covering the bolts did the trick for me.
  19. Jeff, My wife and I will be traveling to ES on the 16th so thanks for the post. Sorry we'll miss you. Rusty, if you don't mind, pm me the same favorite routes. Curtis, I may call you if the invitation is open but I realize you may be working. We plan on passing through Mountain Home on the 16th. A list of must see/ride sites would be appreciated around MH. Rosebud, thanks, I'll try that one out. We are going to take the week of the 15th to explore US 412 route to ES. From there we will likely head N. to Branson and then head back E. on US 60 or 160. If you see a couple on an 06 black cherry that may be us so flag me down. Bill
  20. Dealers typically do not stock many RSV's which means they don't sell many. I was at one of our largest local Yamaha/Honda dealers last Thursday and not a venture on the floor. I told a top salesman that I really liked my RSV but noticed they don't stock or sell many. He said the reason they didn't sell was when potential customers sit on one and pulled it up off the kick stand the weight scared them. He said they are the best buy for the $ in touring bikes and personally likes the smooth ride and style but finds them hard to sell. Who knows, maybe he just doesn't push them. He sells lots of Wings. The Wing would be my second choice but I'll stick with my RSV.
  21. Great looking bike. I see a resemblance in the 1st. gen style to the current BMW 1200. Congratulations.
  22. I went to the Honda/Yamaha dealer to buy a GW but setting in the entrance was an 06 bc RSV. Love at first sight. Without the RSV I'd go for a Wing.
  23. Everybody has their likes/dislikes and style and some very good suggestions have been posted. For me I have added a backrest(much better on my old back), passing lights (bought off e-bay at a good price - Yamaha dealer), Yamaha trunk rack (e-bay again and it comes in handy for traveling and helps the looks IMHO), and the led brake/running light mounted under the trunk(got the idea off this site). As of now that is all I plan on doing since I like the way the RSV handles and rides.
  24. . Right now the trip sounds like we are going from here thru KS, MO, IL, KY, TN, Sounds like I-24 through western Ky. I'm an hour from the interstate through Ky. so if you need assistance, a place to get off the main track, scouting report or do a M&E let me know. Happy trails.
  25. Well said. This is the kind of place I like to "hang out" in. I have learned alot about RSV's and enjoy the brotherhood/sisterhood. My support is guaranteed.
