Warning Light
lwinders replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I checked last night and found that the battery picture stays on so I guess it is tha fact that I don't have the fluid level probe in the battery. I'll try to find the thread that you talked about for the resister in the line. Does anyone know where it is? -
Warning Light

I thought about that so I put about 4 gallons of gas in it. Didn't make a difference. I show bars almost to the top of the gauge so i think it is working ok. -

Ok. I'll check that when I get home from work today. Thanks -
I'm still in the process of getting my '83 roadready. I did actually ride it for the first time the other day. She really runs nice considering I haven't had the carbs adjusted yet. The problem I'm having now is that the red warning light is always flashing. Where do I begin in the process of chasing down the problem?

I have an 09 Grand Cherokee. I have been very pleased with it.

At least they realized that the 8 track would take up too much room.

Saturday morning a few of us rode to a dealership about 40 miles form where we live. While I was there I thought I would check out the 2012 Venture. It was a nice bike. Just like the 2011, 2010, 2009....... I was very surprised to see that it still has a cassette deck. What is Yamaha thinking?

I'm happy camper
lwinders replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I checked and found that one of the butterfly's was partially open. I tried adjusting the sync screw but it didn't change anything. After closer inspection I noticed that I had put the spring on the sync screw incorrectly and it was holding the butterfly open. I fixed it and cranked the bike and it idled very nicely. It's beginning to run pretty well now. When I get the rest of the bike together (eventually), I'll take it and have the carbs synced. I even managed to get the brakes working. Thanks to a lot of help from everyone on this site I finally feel like I'm making progress. I know I'll be asking a lot more questions before I'm finished. You guys are great. -

I still have some things I need to do before I can get in on the road. I still don't have any front brakes. As soon as I get the brakes where I feel good about them I'll get it out and run it. I'm sure that will help. I've got seafoam in the gas now. I need to get the idle down so I can at least let it run for a while and work the seafoam into the carbs. -
After having my carbs of for the second time I finally noticed that three of my pilot jets were completly stopped up. After much work I managed to clear them out. I got my carbs back on the motorcycle Saturday morning. After a few minutes of cranking, it finally cranked up. This time it was actually running on all four cylinders. Before it was only hitting on one. Since the bike had sat for a very long time you can imagine what my shop looked like. I couldn't even see for the smoke. I shut it down and went to town and got oil and filter and came back and changed the oil. I started it again and let it run for about 15 minutes and smooth out some as well as burn off all the oil on the engine and pipes. Hearing it crank and run was one of the sweetest things I've heard in a long time. I said all that to get to my question. It seems to be running fairly smooth and the throtle responds good but it is idleing at 3000 rpm and I can't get it to come down. The idle screw is backed all the way out. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

This is all great information. Thanks dingy for the info on ebay. Sounds like a great price. I will probably order the kits. I did actually put my carbs back on this weekend and for now it is at least running. -

Thanks I'll check these two options. -
Is it still possible to buy carb. rebuild kits for my '83 VR. If so, where can I order them and what info do I need off the carbs. Thanks in advance for your help.

Brake caliper froze
lwinders replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks skydoc. What is the cost for this service? -
A couple of friends of mine rode the dragon this past weekend. One of them took this picture while at Deal’s Gap. I was just wondering if anyone recognizes this VR? This would have been Saturday the 10th.

Brake caliper froze
lwinders replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The problem is, they appear to be all the way in allready. I tried the air hose but they didn't move. When I look through the inlet port, I can see the back of the piston. It is covering about 2/3 of the inlet hole. If they are in any farther it would close off the inlet. They are sticking out about 1/16 from the caliper body. Should they go in any more than that? -
Brake caliper froze
lwinders replied to lwinders's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, I made a mess of that post. I'm going through my brake system (not boing through it) and the pistons are froze (not forze) -
I'm boing through the brake system on my "83. Since it has been setting up for a very long time, the calipers are forze solid. What is the best way to break the pistons loose without damaging them?
