Flyinfool is definitely not a morning person. Had a select comfort for years and finally changed to a softside waterbed. Not likely to go back. (You'd think there would be more than 1 dealer in a town the size of Atlanta.)

I would second chase the threads and make sure the new bolts will go all the way in before backing them out and installing the windscreen. -
Did the Henry Ford a few years ago in one day. Mistake. Should have allowed two. Or at least one and a half, just too much to see. Problem was, "I" got tired by 3 oclock with a lot to see yet.

Turners Corner Restaurant is open on weekends but sadly TWO is closed. Lenny's is open on 180 is open weekends also.

While pulling & greasing the steering head bearings, I found a small (3/16) hole leading to the upper frame member. Can anyone think of a good reason not to plug this hole. The thought is to put a zerk fitting on the side of the head and be done with pulling this bugger apart to grease the bearings. I think the hole is there to releave pressure while assembling the frame. Since the frame is complete - plug the hole.

With a 7 year old bike at 50,000 miles, I figure an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. And I'm not sure I could handle that kind of pound on the road. Just did Rick's switch bypass. And put a spare relay in the saddle bags. By the way, the new relays are rated at 40 amps.

Git thyself to the local extension agent today. I had something like that a long time ago and it killed to whole yard.

Read the following explanation before looking at the picture! Most Syrians struggle to even read Arabic, much less have a clue about reading English. So, how do a group of Syrian protest leaders create the most impact with their signs by having the standard 'Death To Americans' (etc..) slogans printed in English? Answer: They simply hire an English-speaking civilian to translate and write their statements into English. However, in this case, they were unaware that the 'civilian' insurance company employee hired for the job was a retired USNavy Chief! Obviously, the results were PRICELESS! This picture is not doctored.

You want to see everything electrical work (rarely a problem) - kick the tires. Take a current owner with you to listen for the dreaded clutch chirp. Except for the clutch, these things are pretty bullet proof. And most of the clutches are good.

On Northern Exposure, they used to fling things. Just sayin'.

Servicing swing arm bearings
hillrider replied to hillrider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The four (2 on a side clamp screws that clamp the shock tube) screws, and the cap nut on the top cap (in my parts book, it's called a 'crown, handle'). I've prized the clamps open as best I could, and used a small persuader and a brass drift. I've got a 3 lb rock hammer, but am hesitant to hit it that hard. Soaked it with PB Blaster but it's still firmly attached. Don't see anything else that could be holding it - - but ?? Sure is stuck.- 15 replies

I particularly admire those who adjust their speedo's 3 hundred feet below sea level, and wear funny little squiggles above their shirt pocket.

Seaking Talk to me about getting top cap off of the triple tree. Got the top nut off and the side clamp bolts loose. Anything else to it. Boy is it stuck. The destination it to raise the forks in the clamps.- 15 replies

Got it. With the help of a friend and his lady, we got the wheel on the axle. And after much tugging finally sat on the floor with both feet on the wheel and holding on to the saddlebag rail getting ready to give a mighty push, and the wheel slid on like falling in a hole. When its right it goes and when its not, you can't make it.- 15 replies

Servicing swing arm bearings

The book says check'em at 8000, pack'em at 16000. I've got nearly 50,000. Might be a little overdue. But basically, I'm chasing the lousy handling. Road center ridges, tar snakes in the summer. My other two bikes are rock solid.- 15 replies

Is J&M The Cheapest for CB Setup
hillrider replied to Aussie Annie's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Annie, those are pretty much permanent install on the bike (I've got two of them). They are bike mount to helmet, not straight helmet mount. -
Sheffield Research Gtc Sr Ta100 - multifunction tester that looks like it might be useful for finding a weak coil. It's a little pricey, but beats a trip to the shop. And I've never begrudged my self a useful tool. Has anyone tried one of these.
