  4. Prayers for Jonesy and Linda.Hang in there!
  5. Hi Mike! Hello Craig and Kim!!! I let Tooch drive. He tried. He really tried. His final words "I don't want one" :) First, you steer a hack. No need to lean. Most folks that have a hack keep another bike if they want two wheels. You have to have them set up correctly, so taking a hack off and on would be a hassle, to me. I bought my first one because everyone told me not to buy one. This is my third rig in 5 years. Wrecked one (99 RSV with California sidecar), bought and sold the second in one year (2006 HD ultra). I have a hack because they are uncommon and I like the looks of them. Not because of any health issues, just like sidecars. Found this rig on sidecar.com A wealth of information on this site, and a few of the driving handbooks free to download. Worth reading. I did switch out the triple trees for easier (much easier) steering. They are now at a 6 degree rake, which is another reason not to take the hack off. Unsafe to drive with that front end on two wheels. I'd rather ride in the sidecar than behind because I'm not staring at the back of his head, can move around, and pretend I didn't hear him if I don't feel like talking, take pictures, wave at people, and just have a great time. Stops take longer because folks like to ask questions, which makes trips lots of fun. And lots of little kids have jumped in the sidecar because it looks cool. Lots of storage space in the hack and trunk. I keep about 75 pounds of ballast in the back of the hack and don't have any problem with lifting the sidecar, because I do not want to fly the chair. If you keep making tighter and tighter right turns, you fly the chair. It's usually cheaper to buy one used than new. A Ural would be great for back roads and trails, but they usually top out at about 60 m.p.h. http://sovietsteeds.com/ If you are ever in the Pittsburgh area - or Freebird's MD or the WNY rally - more than happy to take you for a ride. Claude at http://www.freedomsidecars.com is a GREAT guy to talk with. He's been doing this for a long time. Answers all your questions and explains things very well. Another guy is Bob Wark in Ohio at http://www.warkshop.com/index.html He has info on his site about installation. My sidecar opens from the front, which makes it easy to get in and out. It's an 07 Champion sidecar. Just be sure to get a sidecar that is the right for your bike. Claude can advise you on that, as will the folks at the sidecar.com forum. For instance, Velorex sidecars are too light for an RSV. Also, beware of universal mounts. DMC in Washington state, Claude Stanley will make bike specific mounts. Hope that helps a little. More than happy to answer any other questions. Mary Jo
  6. It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Is it a CVO? Sharp bike.
  7. In this case, riding a hack is a want, not a need. I like different and this fits the bill. Being able to take friends and supplies is a bonus. On the way home a guy in a late 30's Chevy pulled out of a side road onto the highway. Slows down and rides beside me in the passing lane. I look over, smile, and a little guy about 6 or 7 sticks his hand out the window and gives me a thumbs up. He didn't do that to the two bikes in front of me as his dad floored it down the highway. Ended up beside him at the light and again this little hand comes out of the back window...... I've talked with quite a few folks who had rigs to take the entire family with them, and a bunch who take the dog. Hope to meet you at a rally. Mary Jo
  8. If I hit anything, I'd blame it on Matt! We pullled on to Route 219 and the most awful grinding sound came from my bike. I'm more of a car person and my first thoughts were "I blew out the tranny and how far away is a flatbed?" The steering damper that runs from the sidecar to the front wheel came off. Highway repair with the bandanna and off we went. It's driveable, but has a bit of a wobble around 45 to 55 mph. Also a bit shakier over rough spots. I'll get it back on. Glad your wife like the picture We had a great time talking with you!
  9. So sorry this happened to you Kristjan - but so very thankful that your are okay!
  10. Good description Puc! You are correct, it is a sidecar (and I had absolutely no luck convincing anyone to get a hack) Luckily, no accident. The foot peg, which I just put on a week ago, came in handy to hold the broken part, but was not part of it. No stepping involved, but there was bending....
  11. Agree!! My brother replaced my garage lights and laundry room lights with these. Exactly as you describe. Very happy
  12. The Tooch volunteers to be part of the Scavenger Hunt - Person wearing a scarfMary Jo (MJ44) and Matt (not on the forum) at Lechtworth State Park
  13. Safe and sound. Just get an eye patch and you'll be okay ;-) You are close, though....
  14. Thanks a big bunch to the Western New York folks for all of their hard work! This rally should be on your "got to go there" list. Great activities, great folks, great venue. We thoroughly enjoyed the folks and the events. and we laughed, a lot! Heck, the only time I can get Matt to go on a planned vacation is to this rally and MD at Don's! That says something Finally saw a prop plane flying around (on the scavenger hunt list) just before we stopped in Ellicottville walked around a bit and got to Matt's around 4:30, unpacked his stuff and an hour later I was home. Had a small hiccup. See if you can figure out what happened from this photo. Prize the the first correct answer ;-)
  15. Dang! Glad you made it home!
  16. Leaving................whenever Matt gets ready Not going mention or and then it won't happen! Only thing I know for sure, he'll stop for See you later, alligators!
  17. No four letter words on the forum Jay!
  18. Couldn't have done it without you!! Thanks again
  19. I will be there! Looking forward to seeing you folks
  20. Yeah! Tell Linda "Hello" from Mary Jo
  21. On Fridays in the summer the Wicked Witches of the North try for a ride. Yep, all women on our brooms. There are three of us, all in our 50's. Two HD and me with the Venture hack. Sometimes I have a passenger. Tomorrow we add another witch to the group. We take turns being road captain, too. I teach and have the summer off, the other two work in administration at the same school district on the office is closed Fridays during the summer. Great for riding to avoid weekend traffic. We ride with our guys, too..........but Fridays are reserved for the Witches! This was last summer in Punxsutawney - we visited Phil Headed to Sugar Creek, OH tomorrow, about 300 miles round trip. Guaranteed good time with lots of laughs
  22. Glad to hear everyone is okay! Scary stuff!
  23. We'll be there sometime Thursday afternoon. Yippee!!
