  1. Kewl thread. My very first car was 1970 Pontiac Strato Chief. Purchased at the ripe old age of 17 for a whopping $75 from a guy who lived at the end of my block. Handed over the money and pushed it down the street into my parent's carport where it sat for 2 weeks while I worked on making it road worthy. Great car, of all I have owned, still my fondest memory. Thomas
  2. I thought that was so cool, I Googled it. Here are a couple more I found. I really like he one with the driver. Thomas
  3. Yes, please. Keep us up on this one. I am keenly interested. Thomas
  4. I have an '85 with the controller but no compressor installed. I bought it that way. You're welcome to it for the cost of shipping and assuming I can get any ideas on how to cover the blank space that will be left after removal. Not sure if the controller works but it is in fine shape. Pm me if you're interested. Thomas
  5. Yup! Installed 4 brush starter on my '85 and I haven't been disappointed one bit. Best thing I ever did. Thomas
  6. I guess there's no reason for me to view it. LOL I'm not old...in my head. Thomas
  7. I added similar brake lights to my '85 VR and after I installed them I wondered about the legality here in Ontario. So, I made a point of stopping to ask a member of the local constabulary as he was just sitting in the parking lot, not doing much. He viewed my new setup (2 red lights flashing independently and going solid after 5 cycles) and he told me that it was fine since the stock light stayed solid the whole time. The fact that the new lights went solid after 5 flashes was fine. If there wasn't the solid red stock brake light, he told me that would be a problem in the eyes of the law. Thomas
  8. Good looking cup holder. Looks sturdy too! I have to agree with Carl. Can't the cup sit up straight? I mean, parallel to the ground makes for very few sips. Thomas
  9. Well, I changed the pads today and I noticed a considerable difference in the pad wear. Inside rear was worn more than outside which I understand is normal. Left front, both pads were worn but right front the pads showed very minimal wear. Almost new condition. Could there be something going on that needs to be addressed? Thomas
  10. Well, here ya go. As promised...pics of the 1962 BSA Super Rocket. Bike was ridden as recently as last season. Completely rebuilt and top drawer from top to bottom. Spoke with the owner a length and has told me that the initial asking price will be $6500.00 Canadian dollars. Considering the condition, it's a good price when you factor in buying something cheaper and having to spend a couple or few thousand dollars to get it where this bike currently sits. Start your drooling. Anyone seriously interested should PM me for contact name & number. Bike is located in Woodstock Ontario. Thomas
  11. Thanks for the quick replies. I thought about oil level and triple checked it. The oil is at half way up the sight glass on centre stand and level surface. Could it be possible that I should be above half? Thomas
  12. so I ditched the stock oil filter system in favour of the spin-on adapter at the start of the riding season. Installed the recommended filter and thought I had the world by the tail. Until I found that the oil pressure warning light was coming on during hard acceleration and then while sitting at traffic signals on an incline. The warning would go off after about 10 secs. But it never came on before. Not in the nine years I have owned it. So, after talking with Saddlebum, I decided to reinstall the factory hardware. Switched it out this morning and went for a spin to Port Dover. Hard acceleration had the warning popping on again. Sitting on an incline was no problem. So... I have no idea what it could be. Can anyone offer any ideas? Oil is new Castrol GTX and filled to half glass. Thomas
  13. Sally & I had a great time! It was a privilege to be a very small part of your special celebration. Congratulations. May you have many, many more happy years ahead. Thank you for opening your home to us. BTW, a word to all the other guests, the red peppers on the veggie trays were sweet and not hot. Thanks Don & Nancy for not trying to hurt us.
  14. RainX now makes Rain‑X® Plastic Water Repellent which they say is safe for all plastics. www.rainx.com/product/plastic-water-repellent/rain-x-plastic-water-repellent/ Thomas
  15. You are correct Paul, the engine and transmission are separate. He rode it regularly as recently as last season. Thomas
  16. For those of you who would like to see photos of this beauty, I will be returning in one week to drop off the Cabriolet. I will endeavour to get some pics to post here along with the asking price. If I recall, she was black and chrome tank with black side covers. Stay tuned. Thomas
  17. So I was into an upholstery guy this morning to see about getting a new top installed on Sally's summer toy (1988 VW Cabriolet Convertible) and we got to talking about older cars and how breaking bolts and plastic can be a challenge. I mentioned that I ride a 1985 Yamaha venture royale and he promptly said that I should take a look at his bike in the back. That's when he proudly revealed his 1962 BSA 650 Super Rocket. Completely rebuilt, factory specs and is thinking about selling it for the right price. He also shared with me that he just purchased a new Harley. (we all make mistakes). It's not officially for sale but I am sure he would be willing to talk about parting with it. I just thought I would share this with you guys in case someone might be interested. Thomas
  18. We plan on attending more of these. Thomas and Sally
  19. EXACTLY!!! I searched and couldn't find a thing here. Now, if I want to repair a second gear issue, it's here. Clutch - got it. Stator - got it. Fork seals - got it. Butler mod - got it. No brake pad replacement. Is it just too basic a project to be bothered with? Thomas
  20. With all the great tech info here, clutch replacement, stator replacement etc, has anyone ever documented the steps (with photos) to replace brake pads for those of us who are handy with tools but aren't sure of the proper steps to follow? Just askin'. Thomas
  21. EBay is where I got one for my 85 VR. Thomas
  22. What a great answer! Leave it to the young mind to come up with that argument. Thomas
  23. Hi Wayne, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Easter...there...now we're caught up. Did you need to use the tail light load resistor kit when you installed these bulbs? Did you replace both front and rear turn signals? Thomas
  24. One day I accidentally overturned my golf cart. Elizabeth, a very attractive and keen golfer, who lived in a villa on the golf course, heard the noise and called out: "Are you okay, what's your name?" "It’s Phil and I'm Okay thanks," I replied. "Phil , forget your troubles. Come to my villa, rest a while and I'll help you get the cart up later." "That's mighty nice of you," I answered, but I don't think my wife would like it." "Oh, come on," Elizabeth insisted. She was very pretty, very sexy and persuasive . . . I was weak. "Well okay," I finally agreed, and added, "but my wife won't like it." After a few restorative brandies, and some creative putting lessons, I thanked my host: "I feel a lot better now, but I know my wife is going to be really upset." "Don't be silly!" Elizabeth said with a smile: "She won't know anything. By the way, where is she?" "Under the cart,,,," I said . . ...
