A few months ago I bought 2 of the tourmaster vests and have done a lot of riding with them now. Bev and I love them. We have yet to have them on high and have been in 35 degs. With the hot grips on hi and the 2 vests on med it was all the bike could do to keep up. I have a volt meter. One of our members told me to disconnect the carb heat and that solved the problem. Now i have connected a switch to the carb heat located right over the rear air shock fill valve. I know the grips draw 3 amps and the vest 4 each on hi but the volt meter stays green all the time now

Advice needed for intercom
Jercoupe replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have been using the chatterbox 5pin (the one made for harleys or wings) for 27000 miles now and they work fine.. The only problem is when my wife wanted to try a open face helmet and the wind noise was so bad I figured i'd have to get one of those mic mutes if she didnt go back to her closed face. She hated the open so its no problem now. I can hear her fine at 80mph. I use a open she a closed. They are cheap at about $70 bucks and slip on easy. -
Rod: My bike is in the shop so I cant measure that for you right now but the hole size depends on the peg that you use. I believe that the pegs i used took a 1/2 inch hole.. as far as the edge distance you can see in the pic that the bracket had to be rounded to accept the cogged adapter that came with the pegs(keeps the pegs from slipping down due to the leverage of the longarms). i rounded the edge first to fit the cog then set the cog on the bracket and drilled the hole.. perfect fit that way!.

I have two speeds .. hi and low.. I thought i might be doing a lot of toggling but now i just leave it on hi.. I control the heat by how hard i squeeze the grips.. a light touch and its not much heat.. a firm grip and you can feel the burn! lol
-
I thought it would be too far also but i went ahead and mounted it in the faring so i have to reach under the clutch to switch it.. It is a little streach but it works fine. As a matter of fact i cant even see it but its right where i expect it to be when i feel for it. Be sure to fire it off of a relay or you will leave it on when you shut off the bike.

oh yea Jack. It was howling here too.. been to calm for us Californians so its about time we have to sympathize with the rest of the country;). At least i got a good ride in on new years day! The other jack.

thanks Sgtglenn. I did the disconnect and no more issues. Road home today for about 3 hrs and it didnt matter what i had on, it all worked fine!

Thanks for the idea to disconnect the heated carbs. 60 watts is equal to 5 amps which is even the power consumption of one vest on hi. I suspect carb icing is possible on a venture but if it does I can always set up a switch on the carb heat. Ok. Yesterday We rode for many hrs in 38 degs and i was doing a lot of power management to keep the volt meter in the green. (havent disconnected the carb heat yet). Both vest on med with my grips on high did cause the meter to go to yellow right after i started the bike. Since my grips were more important to me than the vest I left the vest off (wifes stayed on). It took about 15 cold mins:cold: before I could turn it on again. The meter seemed to stay green after that as long as we did not start and restart. I think the carb heater disconnect will solve this problem.

Ok Bev and I are on a road trip to Laughlin Nv for for the christmas holidays. Yesterday we rode for about 3 hrs with our tourmaster vests on. It was 48 and foggy for a good part of that and the vests worked great. I was able to run both on hi with my heated grips on hi also. We could only stand the vests on hi for about 10 mins before we had to go to med. Anyway the volt meter stayed on green but at a stop light at idle the yellow light started flashing so i turned off the grips for a min. I am sure we are right at the max of the electrical system on the bike. I didnt think the Venture could be much more comfy but heat on a cold day will spoil you!

Did the Volusia to a Tour deluxe to a Venture! This is where I stop! You will love it once you get use to it!
-
Thanks for that info Dennis. I have never seen 2 green lights on my meter. I only have one green light on most of the time. I'm doing a laughlin NV run the day after Christmas so I will see how the power draw is with both vests operating .

syngery is the name of the heated line from tourmaster

Yea i bought her one too.. Figured i could wire in a switch to shut hers off if the electrical system couldnt handle it! Guess i wont need to now. Just kidding. It would be mine that got shut off first. After all its her bike! Im just the driver.

Today I got the tourmaster heated vests I ordered long ago. I hooked them both up interested in the draw on my electrics. I could not find any info on the amp draw but figured them to be the same as the competition. Well they are not. Each vest with collar draws 4.5 amps which was a lot more. Anyway I got them hooked up and they are toasty warm. I cranked both on high and kicked on the heated grips with the bike running in the garage (rained today) and even at idle the kuryakyn volt meter stayed in the green. I wont know for sure till i can run it all on high for a extended time but so far it looks good. Btw, i dont run driving lights. Looks like I'll be staying toasty!

Perhaps someone else knows more that i do on the sb but my dealer said that some of the 07 head bolts were missed torqued and a few heads may be leaking.. he said mine was ok but he will to the sb next time and will do the valves at the same time.. cant tell you much more.
-
i ususally take my bike to the dealer just cause he is a great guy and I want to support him anyway i can.. I just took my 07 in for the 24000 but after chatting with VR's decided not to have him do the expensive Valve check or adjustment which was called for. I got a call from the dealer now saying he just recieved a sb to torque the head bolts on my bike so he can do the valves at the same time. Good dealer i would say huh? well that answers it goose. looks like its all usable. thanks

Just curious . has anyone ever ran a second gen till out of gas.. How much fuel did it take to fill up? Wondering how much usable there really is.

The part # for the longhorn offset brackets is 8016 and i use 8002 pegs to match my highway pegs but you could probably use any of kuryakan pegs. Yes. Those little silver spacers do bring the board out 1/2 inch and were necessary because if you notice there are spacers built into the passenger boards already that go into that plastic cover on the side of the bike. If i didnt use the spacers the new bracket would have broken that plastic. Also since the board is out further I worried about the torque bending the bolts so it is important to make the spacer just the right length so the botttom of the bracket below that rear bolt will rest on the frame. The boards have to be flipped up to access the pegs but she can easily do this with her boots. The longhorn bracket comes with a spline connecter to use with their clamps .. this prevents the peg from sliding down further but did have to take a dremel tool to that spline and cut half of the flange off so it would fit flush on the new bracket. Btw these can be adjusted a lot further down.. my wife is 6 ft tall and where you see them was right for her. Also they are not even close to the pavement on a hard lean and they pegs will kick back if they would hit.

Well it was listening to that whine from the back of my bikes(td and venture) for 3 years now that caused me to take matters into my own hands. I know i should have done this long ago but , hey, my feet were happy! I asked several people to come up with a way to lower the boards for my wife to no avail so this is my answer. 2x2 3/16 angle cut 3 inches long . kuyrakan longhorns. 1/4 gal pipe cut for spacers. (see pics). Since I dont really have the facility to make these they were kinda labor intensive since most of it was with hand tools I was hoping one of you guys with a shop might be able to do them if any others wanted. We have rode on a 450 mile day so far and she loved them. Said she like to be able to change from the boards to the pegs. They do flip up neatly when not in use. The 3/16 angle does have a little flex but not more than the stock floorboard. Perhaps if i was doing it again i'd use 1/4 angle. Anyway the whine is completely gone from the rear of the bike now. All is right in the world now! Jack in Los Osos CA

A good friend of mine is a motor cop and he told me long ago to only rest my foot on the brake when stopping and dont ever push. As you apply front brake harder the momentum of the bike will make you push the rear brake just right. This is how he was trained. I asked what about panic stops and he said if you pratice this always you will do the same in a panic. Well. I praticed this for 2 years and when that damn deer jumped out in front of me I was in a thick cloud of smoke from my rear tire locked up!!. Guess i need more pratice. It does work good in regular driving though. Jack in los osos ca

Jack: My bbq is always hot for Venture riders ( even them ancient ones!) :backinmyday:Only problem is you get hambugers unless you bring the t-bone. Anyway we need to plan a event. Moro bay is really a great destination and the ride up the coast is terrific. Other jack in los osos ca

Gotta thank you guys for comming up with the bbq ride. It was great to meet the some of the gang I havent seen yet and to get in touch with some old freinds!! (well most of them anyway) Of course it was a great excuse for Bev and I to start a road trip to distant places. Yesterday we had a sweet ride over morman immigrat trail to 88 (missed the fall color by about 2 weeks) then to 89 and down 395 to Bishop where we had a steak dinnner and got a motel. The weather was just perfect but wow am i happy with those new heated grips in the mornings and evenings. Anything under 60 seems to be were I turn them on! Today we plan to head to death valley and see Scottys castle then who knows where our trusty steed will take us!! As long as Bev remains on the back tickling "MY" ribs we I'm happy to continue. Jack getting farther away for Los osos ca
