In an attempt to track down any vacuum leaks, I was changing out the o-rings that go between the carb manifolds and the head. The outer screw on the left front carb boot had metal shavings on it as it came out. I am not sure if this is from a previous attempt at a repair and it is part of a helicoil coming out, or if it was just tightened too much and stripped some of the aluminum from the head. Anyhow, it will not tighten up now, and leaks oil profusely on start up. I also worry that some of this metal got into the engine since this is in an oil galley. Does anyone have a suggested way to repair this? Can I tap it out to the next size up? Help!

Sync problems

I wanted to give an upate on this. I got the vmax running and hooked up the carbtune, and it works like its supposed to, so it's not the carbtune. I think next I need to take off the airbox and pull out the diaphragm/piston assembly and I should be able to do a bench sync like that, shouldn't I? The bike came with the carbs off, and I took them apart and cleaned them, but unfortunately did not bench sync them before putting back on, because I thought the carbtune would take care of that. I did not consider that they could be way out of wack. The strange thing is that the bike starts right up and idles well and has decent throttle response. You can tell it needs further tuning, but it runs OK. Any ideas? -
Sync problems

I did both, got vacuum from the bike, and was able to suck on tuner and get slider to move, although it seemed I had to suck a lot harder than the amount of vacuum that the bike was producing. -

Vmax is not running at this time, it's the story of my bikes. I will check the restrictors in the Carbtune to make sure they are not too restricted. -
Just curious, How many Wing Riders do we have on the site?

And my 81 Interstate makes it 39. -
I hooked up my Morgan Carbtune last night trying to get this 93 up and running, and it will not pull any of the sliders on the Carbtune up at all. If you rev it up, still nothing, but on deceleration they move slightly. Anybody have this issue before? I keep the Carbtune in its case, but maybe it needs cleaning? Or is it something with the bike? Thanks for any ideas. I have a Vmax, so I know the Carbtune is properly hooked up.

I have a 93 that I am bringing back to life slowly, and it has the gaiters. -
I used to have a 96 Honda Magna and it sounds like what you're looking for. Very easy to ride, not heavy, and a V4 motor with plenty of get up. That was one of my favorite bikes.

vacuum leak

dingy, Thanks for that o-ring size. Now I don't have to buy them at the dealer. -
vacuum leak
goatman123 replied to goatman123's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for reply, I can tell when I spray carb cleaner that the vacuum leak is where the carb boot meets the engine. The boots themselves look good, no cracking that I can see. I haven't gotten as far as a carb sync yet, because of this vacuum issue, but I'm sure it will need it. -
Well I got my 93 up running with a carb rebuild, but I noticed the revs slow to come back down, so I figure a vacuum leak. I sprayed carb cleaner around the boots that attach to the head, and sure enough the revs jump up on all four cylinders. I see there is an o-ring in the boot assembly. My question is, can you usually get by with just an o-ring change, or do the boots themselves routinely go bad? The bike has less than 19,000 miles on it, so it has spent lots of time sitting. Thanks.

Trying to revive a 93
goatman123 replied to goatman123's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Success! Special thanks to mbrood. I resoldered the CLASS pins and the system came to life. Hopefully it will hold air now. That fix alone was well worth the $12 subscription. -
I have this problem on my Vmax at highway speeds. The bike has no windshield, so my arms are getting extended and my grip gets tighter. On my old Goldwing where there is no wind pressure hence no arm extension I have no problem. Seems like new bars that lessen your arm extension should help.

I recently acquired a 93 VR that I am trying to get back on the road. The good news is it only has 18xxx miles on it. The bad news is it only has 18xxx miles on it, so it has spent plenty of time sitting. Cosmetically it is very nice except for a clouded windshield. I took apart the carbs, and every slow speed jet was clogged, but other than that they were nice and clean. The gas tank has some sludge, but I think it will clean up pretty well using my old stand by "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner, which does a great job on rust. I bought a deka battery for it and discovered the CLASS system has an E4 error, so here is my first question. I can hear a click at the back of the bike when the CLASS system powers up, so does that mean the controller in the dash is OK and I need to look into the power getting to the compressor, or could the controller still need the resoldering that I have read about on this forum? I also have a flashing red warning light blinking at me nonstop. What is it trying to warn me about? I have a 91 Vmax, so I know I will love this motor and bike once I get all the bugs worked out. Thanks for any replies. I'm sure I'll have more questions.
