  1. wonder if there is a way to make covers like on the old 240z.??? like an eyelid???
  2. sorry twigg, but you did call people who ride without their lids "idiots". dont backpeddle your stance now....if you put a helmet on a wreckless human, you still have a wreckless human. i would bet that the intelligence of the rider has nothing to do with the amount of riders who die in accidents. i would guess that the accident, probably, occured because of several other reasons. like, faulty equipment, rider fatigue, or dui. the fact is, that people ride like that ,with or without their helmets. and, as a result of those conditions, they are more likely to be involved in an accident, greatly increasing the likelyhood of serious injury or death. regardless, of whether they wear a lid or not. so maybe the point should be about education, not legislation.
  3. The federal government in 1967 stated that states must enact a universal motorcycle helmet law to receive funding for highway safety. Oklahoma, like most states, complied but in 1976 opted to repeal its universal motorcycle helmet law. "Subsection G of this section as enacted by laws 1967, c. 140, s 3, requiring all operators and riders of motorcycles to wear a crash helmet while operating a motorcycle was unconstitutional since it had no relationship to general public health, safety and welfare. Op.Atty.Gen. No. 68-267 (Dec. 31, 1968). ?????????
  4. well then, i guess the "idiots" in the 30 US states that dont have helmet laws may disagree...
  5. Motorcycle and bicycle helmet use laws April 2012 Laws requiring all motorcyclists to wear a helmet are in place in 19 states and the District of Columbia Laws requiring only some motorcyclists to wear a helmet are in place in 28 states There is no motorcycle helmet use law in 3 states (Illinois, Iowa, and New Hampshire) Some bicyclists are required by law to wear a helmet in 21 states and the District of Columbia There is no bicycle helmet use law in 29 states The history of motorcycle helmet laws in the United States is characterized by change. In 1967, to increase motorcycle helmet use, the federal government required the states to enact helmet use laws in order to qualify for certain federal safety programs and highway construction funds. The federal incentive worked. By the early 1970s, almost all the states had universal motorcycle helmet laws. Michigan was the first state to repeal its law in 1968, beginning a pattern of repeal, reenactment, and amendment of motorcycle helmet laws. In 1976, states successfully lobbied Congress to stop the Department of Transportation from assessing financial penalties on states without helmet laws. and so they repeal it too...
  6. i think it would be interesting to compare the number of deaths of sober people not wearing helmets to those that die from lung cancer, obesity, diabetes, cirrhosis. if you think that motorcycle accidents are driving up youre premiums....think again. yet, i can partake in all those unhealthy activities, at any time, without Legislation. same old tired response....
  7. i forgot Yammer...wash it down with a fifth of Jack and a 12 pack of Pepsi! lol...
  8. i guess youre right. i might as well quit surfing, parachuting, skiing, mountain biking, skateboarding, fishing, hunting, riding, driving, running, and walking. i will just sit at home and eat McDonalds, Doritos, and smoke a couple packs of cigs a day... Those activities are much safer...and they certainly dont burden society, friends and family, or insurance company premiums...
  9. both the honda and kawi are nice looking, but ive heard great things about the honda blackbird! cbr xx.http://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/motorcycle-reviews/honda/1996-2007-honda-cbr-1100-xx-super-blackbird-ar41683.html.
  10. you leave Livonia and go to Wayne or Garden City.
  11. that is prettty sweet! i think the leds would be the way to go. you could hide the wiring, and some are waterproof.check these out!http://store.ijdmtoy.com/Universal-14-LED-Turn-Signal-Arrow-Lights-p/led-sku331.htm.
  12. i actually wondered if someone would chime in about the condom remark! lol. pre-1968 cars are not required to have seatbelts, even though seatbelt laws are mandatory in 48 states. so, should we outlaw the cars, or force owners to update safety equipment? municipalites dont enforce seatbelt laws on their busses.....DC requires ALL passengers in a motor vehicle to wear a seatbelt.....
  13. i had the same problem when i bought my 83. i found one on ebay. it is a little taller, and thicker than stock.http://www.ebay.com/itm/200491954842?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649.
  14. neither. if it was a buckeye, i would just simply squish it....
  15. i took the linkage off and the pedal moved freely. so, i removed the rear master to clean it. then, i opened the rear speedbleeder and pump out all the fluid. now the pedal comes back up normally, and quite quickly. so, earl thinks its the proportioning valve also. air getting trapped keeping it slightly engaged. time for the delink before i smoke the rotor.
  16. really, the only thing that matters is MICHIGAN KICKING OHIO STATE butt. thats all im sayin......
  17. oldbear: that is the point....choice. i also should be able to choose to wear a seat belt. if school kids on a bus dont have to wear them, why should i? just showing how ridiculous, and intrusive some of these rules are. good for the goose.....so to speak. im a clean and sober rider, i always wear jeans and boots, and wear my lid in traffic or inclement conditions. but its the option to choose.....thats what should be protected. im sure you have seen your fair share of nasty bike accidents. but, im sure you saw the DUIs, the suicides, the arsons, the gangbanger drivebys and every other thing. in the big scope of things, i feel the lid law is the least of our problems. it should be left up to the responsible rider. old cars dont even have seat belts, some only lap belts...should we outlaw those, or force all the owners to install seat belt and airbag systems, just in case they get in an accident? it just gets sillier and sillier....im very happy that Michigan gave the choice back to riders! see you on the road (with or without your lids).
  18. "poignant" has several meanings. clarify which you mean please. what i mean is related to the 14th Amendment, as it has been argued by riders in many states. let the riders choose. how about this, send ballots to all registered voters with valid endorsements. let the riders vote...see who wins, and who doesnt. i also feel that you calling my behavior stupid, because i live in a state without helmet laws, is offensive. there may be others here that ride without a helmet, that feel that their behavior also, is not stupid. just noticed you were in Canada...no choice there.
  19. but where will it end?...i understand people are seriously injured or even killed not wearing a helmet...but, are the States gonna make sure i wear a condom everytime i have sex? isnt that about the welfare of the people too? or, how about if EVERYONE has to have a breathalyzer installed in their cars before it will start? isnt that about the welfare of the people too? or, how about a game warden standing next to me in a blind EVERYTIME i go huntin?, or that i wear safety glasses evertime i use a drill? or,....my stupidity is MY choice. i have insurance and life insurance, so not to burden anyone....oh, how about WAR? is that a choice the PEOPLE make?.....What about that bit of stupidity that cost AMERICANS their lives and burdens society....
  20. i removed the linkage, as suggested, and pedal moves freely. so, i hooked the linkage back up and removed the rear master for cleaning. dirty. while it was off, i decided to open up the rear sppedbleeder and pump out any fluid remaing. NOW the pedal comes all the way up?! so what is it? air? bad proportioning valve? just trying to figure it out b4 i put it back together.....thanks. Golf, try this...
  21. sounds like my same experience with women...except they are difficult to get in the shed...
  22. that was my post...must be something in the air....still havnt figured it out. bled the heck out of it, still the pedal is hanging up. gonna have to pull the shaft out and clean it. maybe thats the cure. i dunno, just another project. while im at it, i will clean the rear master as suggested.
  23. ACE sells some bronze bushings. i used them on my brake pedal. i got rid of my heel-toe for that very reason and went back to stock. found parts at pinwall on ebay pretty cheap.
  24. the authoritieswill not be able to confirm it. its not listed on i.d. cards the amounts of liability you carry. the article i posted earlier clearly states that the cops cannot ask you to prove coverage, nor even stop you to find out if your covered appropriately. it is an insurance gig, plain and simple. thats why Mich repealed it. obviously, the insurance lobbyists didnt have enough pull. thats all im saying. i just rode around upper mich for 3 hours without my helmet, even pulled up next to a state trooper and he waived.
  25. its the pedal. rear caliper is operating properly.
