  1. i wonder if it has a cassette player....
  2. i wasnt running stock r/r, bought the entire kit from earl. 1 time replaced both stator and r/r, second time only stator...the r/r checked out ok...at least one side did. now, going with ricks and shindigen...waiting on gaskets to set (5pm)...then i fire it back up. moved shindigen to front of bike.
  3. the driver is awesome...
  4. no hot tub?? geez.....
  5. ya right. not gonna even bother taking it to dealer. ive cut out the plugs and hardwired everything, not to mention the last stator wasnt a Yamaha part.
  6. 10,000 hornets! wow. sorry to hear that. i havnt had any problems with mine. they do burn holes though! where did you mount them?
  7. diode tests on rr were good last time, so i didnt replce it with the second stator. but it sure burned up quick. i also had the rr mounted in original location. it was all hardwired... i fed a small wire thru bolt to make sure it was clear. this time, Ricks stator, Shidigen rr, mounted at front of bike to stay cooler. gaskets will be here tomorrow. ready to try again....
  8. my 83 runs hot. almost in the red. obviously, cooler on cooler days. but summer? HOT.
  9. im not sure about wire...but, from my conversations with others here, its best to replace both stator and r/r at same time.
  10. the parts diagram only shows one washer/spring on the stator screws. i have 2 washers plus cooling plate. i wonder if this could be part of the problem. depth is wrong, rubbing??? wrong screw possibly...by PO..
  11. i take that back. if the cover was back on...it would go from 7 oclock to 12 oclock.
  12. the burn goes from 1o'clock to 6 o'clock.
  13. here are some more pics of housing/generator. it looks as if there are 3 bolts inside there, and the heads have been shaved off....no idea what this means. maybe the screws that are holding the stator in are rubbing againt them....help? there are also 3 threaded holes that are empty...not sure why these are there..... can anyone tell me what the correct lenght of the screws that hold the stator in place are??? im wondering if the PO put in the wrong length, and the screw heads are rubbing...causing extra heat and failure...?????
  14. what about alignment? should the stator screws (3) align specifically inside the housing a certain way?? i also have 2 washers on the screws that hold the stator in place. should i try only 1? maybe the depth is off??
  15. heres some pics.....it looks the same as last time. the right side coils are black....
  16. i, personally, have the bolt with the punch mark AND oil deflectors. still burning up stators. just removed the cover, almost half of stator is smoked! again.
  17. i have the wire in mine. if i open it up a little, will the wire come loose? i mean, is the wire different from 1st and 2nd revisions?? or is it same wire, different bolt.....
  18. Skydocs reluctant to sell you one of his because of issues with mine. i have an mk1 and burned up 2 stators in 6 months. one lasting 4000 miles, the other about 400. the latter stranding me in detroit. i was on my way to the Keys. i have the factory cooling kit installed. left us both scratching our heads. its not earls fault, or his suppliers..its the damn bikes design! i just trailered the bike home yesterday and have yet to pull the second stator out, but, im sure its gonna be burned up. i decided to go with Ricks and a Shindigen R/R. just recieved both of them yesterday. heres the plan: put in Ricks HO stator, move Shindigen from stock location to fairing. Shindigen goes directly to battery and grounds to bike. it is of Moffset construction. comes with nice plug kit, which i got ready for tomorrows install. after great discussion with earl, i decided to "open up" the cooling hole for the stator....just a little. to allow for a little more oil into side case. im using Amsoil. i went to the Keys anyhow!
  19. ive replaced a couple failed stators cuz of 83 cooling issues. gonna do it again, but this time port the hole a little. i use the blue. both sides of gasket. crazy glue idea is cool, but, i havnt had any leaks without it.
  20. me too! similar boot by Blackhawk, tanker zip.
  21. i will be there!!! im leaving up north tomorrow, then heading to parents, in howell, for a night. then off to monroe to meet up for breakfast on friday!
  22. reminds me of that movie with Chris Farley and Dana Carvey. where they get pulled over by the cops and decide to pretend they are being attacked by bees! they jump out and start rolling around yelling BEES! one of the cops is allergic...so they get away with it. next time invest in some blousing straps. can ffind them at an Army surplus store.
  23. very nice! GREAT colors!
  24. im using a HID on my 83. huge differance from standard bulb. i did jumper cms, but, it still didnt cancel headlight warning, and the "brights" dash monitor still flickers. but, the actual bulb doesnt flicker. im also running Rigid Industries high power LEDS as running lights. they are SUPER bright! see my post about those. i live on a dirt road. loaded with deer, fox, bobcat, and a bear or two. so, being visible and being able to see them, was a priority. the Rigid setup is brighter than the HID!
  25. riding from northern michigan to the Keys! a stop in Oberlin for MD, then a couple days in Greenville SC, then NW Georgia, then Tampa area for a week, then to Key Largo for a couple days. different route home, havnt planned the return trip yet.
