I am going.

My 07 does the same thing, first few 20 or 30 seconds after a prolonged cool down. Clatters on the front right, then quiets right down, thought maybe a valve shim was just on the loose side maybe and as she warms up the gap is taken up. The idea of the right front getting oil last is a good theory, also that is the high point on the engine so the oil will naturally drain from there more than from some other locations. Funny I had a 98 Royal Tour Classic for 9+ years and never noticed it on that one.

Check out the link to Yamaha STAR motorcycles, could it be the new V-MAX is ready to finally arrive. If that is the case could a new Venture be far behind? http://www.starmotorcycles.com/

Hopnel makes one, see the picture below, I have this on my Venture , holds sunglasses, kickstand plate with no problem. I did have a hard time finding this model on line, I was able to pick one up here in Daytona at J&P cycles during bike week a few years ago. http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/imageserver.x/00000000/vstreet/BBP_Y60_101BK.jpg

I noticed a Nickel size spot of oil under the Venture about a week ago, at first I thought it was just a drip from the oil breather tube, but when I looked closer I found a large drop of oil on the lower arm of the rear shock. The entire lower attach point was wet with oil and there was oil under the dust cover boot. Bike is about 16 months old and only has 19,000 miles, so I was surprised (maybe not the right word), anyway took it to the dealer today, they said it was leaking profusely and would cover it on warrenty, shock should be in by end of next week and installed next Saturday. Boo for Venture rear shocks, Yeah for 5 year warrenty and good dealer service department. Keep an eye on yours, mine is not the first one to have this problem.

Had a similar problem when my wife was riding her own bike. She has a bum left hand and was having grabbing and controlling the clutch lever. Bought a couple of replacement levers and took then to a friend that had a welding shop. He heated the levers up and "GENTLY" bent them to what we thought would work. Found the one she liked the best and still allowed the clutch to disengage fully and we had him bend the others just the same. We always had at least one spare and the tools needed to change the lever on the bike just in case the lever broke or she dropped the bike and snapped the lever. The levers are just cast aluminum and will not take much abuse as far as heating them or knocking around after they have been heated. If they are chrome plated heating them enough to bend them will blister the chrome. Not a perfect solution but it worked just fine for her. Good Luck

I pulled up beside a guy riding a custom Harley yesterday, he looks over at the Venture and says "Good looking bike" , I replied thanks and before I could repay the compliment he says "Is that one of those Kawasaki-Yamahas?" Dumb founded I had to compose my self before I answered, figuring there would be this big fight right in the intersection if I said what I was thinking. I nicely said "No this is a Yamaha Royal Star Venture". The light tuned green and I got a very nice hole shot jump on him and left him in my dust wondering what just happend.

non-shrink wire tubing
M61A1MECH replied to KiteSquid's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When the wire harness on my 98 Royal started to get all that funky brown staining I used some flexible braided expandable tubing like in the link below. It comes in many sizes and colors, you have to be a bit careful how you cut or finish the ends so it does not unravel. You can cut it and then melt the ends with a lighter or you can cut it with a hot knife to melt the end together to keep it from unraveling. The draw back to melting the ends is that it restricts the amount the tubing will expand. I found that if you do not melt the ends you can make it expand enough to go over most of the connectors so you do not have to de-pin them to get them thru the tubing. Where there is a break out ("Y" ) in the harness you can open up a hole in the weave and bring the one leg out. When I did that I took a smaller diamiter piece of the same type of tubing over the small leg and pushed it up into the hole I made in the main harness and then secured it with a small black tyrap in a figure 8 around the "Y", rolling the "head " of the try-rap to the back where it could not be seen. When ever possible I trapped the braid under some type of mechanical clamp, like the turn signal housing or the starter switch housing, that hides any bad ends and helps keep them from unraveling and keeps th etubing in place. Another nice thing is you can stretch it to make it smaller to fit on small harnesses or expand it up to fit larger diameter bundles. Looked very good when I was done, but I donot have the bike any more and do not have any pictures. http://www.sjmediasystem.com/cable-management-expandable-cable-tubing.html -
I am in Edgewater, (about 25 miles south of Daytona) Do not have any firm plans tis wekend , would be happy to meet up if we can work it out.

I had a front fender trim bolt fall out in the first 600 miles. Found one of the bolts on the trunck strut had fallen out and the other was only in by 1 thread. I will be checking the saddle bag bolts in the morning.

Oil in air box on top of carbs
M61A1MECH replied to BigShell's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Oil in the air boxes is normally a sign that the crankcase was over filled at one time or another. These motors are not very tolerant of overfilling the oil. Make sure the oil is not above the middle of the window. -
Try taking a look at the Krome-Werks slip-ons for the Venture, They are actually made for the Road King, but Krome-Werks made an adapter kit to fit them to the Venture hangers. They have various tips you can put on. Put a set on my 07 Venture and they sound very good with the turn out tips. Try this link to Sons of Thunder Metric Cycles, when I was looking he had the best price and free shipping. http://www.sotmc.com/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=333

Looking for an original THROTTLE ROCKER
M61A1MECH replied to Ferrantelli's topic in General Tech Talk
For what it is worth , I am using Kuryaken's rubber throttle rocker and it works just great. Just another option in case you cannot fund what you are looking for.- 4 replies

I was wondering if anyone knows if the Yamaha STR-4YV27-17-03 handle bar clamp will work on a Venture if you have the risers installed? It looks to me like the clamp will not clear the inside of the fairing where the cruise control on/off switch is located. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/royalsteve/STR-4YV27-17-03.jpg

It is a bit of a tussle, I had to fiddle with mine a couple of times to get enough slack, but there is enough you just need to wiggle and pull a bit more. I did take the cables out of the clamps on the bars while I was trying the get the slack I needed and then worked them back into the clamps once the risers were installed. Good Luck
