once again -headlight bulb replacement
M61A1MECH replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes turn the the wheel hard to the right, when you pop the little spring clip off, just pray that you do not find what I found. The tang on the hinge that allows the spring to swing and by the way keeps the spring in place when it is swung out, was not folded over the spring. I swung it out, removed the old bulb, but as I was reaching in to install the new bulb, plink goes the spring on to the floor. No amount of fiddling or cursing would keep it in place long enough to allow me to get the bulb installed. Finally had to put some tape on the spring to keep it in place until I could get the bulb in and swing the spring back in place. With spring tension on it, it is OK. I made a mental note that the next time I have to do this I go out and get a pair of long reach needle nose pliers and pinch the tang in place before I pull the bulb. -
Try checking this thread here at Venture rider, has a couple of ideas that are much more cost effective than the Yamaha wing. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=504 Also check out the attached file for how I did my install.

I had the same pain in the shoulders when I first got my 07, I installed a set of risers, no more pain. Maybe not as elegant of a solution as changing the bars, but much cheaper an easier.

Ok How about "Calling Elvis" Dire Straits "This is Us" Mark Knopfler & Emmy Lou Harris "Soldier" The Five Blind Boys of Alabama
-
My particular all time favorite is "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits.

This is a terrible thing that has happened, it is the wildlife that I am most concerned about, they are totally innocent in this and have no way to know that something is changed in their world until they encounter the sticky mess. Don't get me wrong I feel for the many folks that will be affected by this , but at least they can understand what is affecting them, the birds, turtles, marine mammals and fish have no understanding of what they are dealing with or why.

I am running K&N filters on my 07 Venture with the air boxes opened up, after I opened the air boxes I needed to reshim the diaphram needles to eliminate a dead spot in the throttle. I would recomend going to the K&Ns, I had them on my 98 Royal for more than 90,000 miles with no problems and the bike is still running with no engine problems. If I had to do it over again on my Venture , I would use the K&Ns but not open the air boxes. I am not sure if you can put K&Ns into the air boxes with the stock covers or not, but I do know that you Yamaha says to use the K&N filters if you switch from stock covers to chrome covers.

Here is my 2007 Venture. The 2008 RSTD was also the same color combo, just a bit different where the black was on the bags. But if you really want something nice try the Emerald Green and Antique White that came on my 98 TC, now that is one good looking color combo.

A Venture rider I know is looking to change his mufflers out for some Tour Deluxe mufflers with the adjustable tips. Does anyone have a set they would like to sell? We looked at just putting the TD tips on the Venture mufflers, they will fit in the ends, but the Venture mufflers lack the threaded inserts used to fasten the tips on. I doubt that the sheet metal on the inside of the muffler cone is strong enough to hold the tips on with out the threaded inserts. Has anyone tried adding the TD tips to stock Venture muflers? Thanks

For nearly as long as I have had my 07 Venture, it has had an annoying rattley buzzy noise on the right side behind me and a little down. Drove me nuts, when I would throttle up or let off if would rattle. You know one of those noises that you hate, you know it is not serious, but bugs the crap out you. Checked everything on the right side to see if they were tight, multple times, never found anything lose. Pulled he right Kromewerks slipon muffler off, nothing in there, plus it did not really sound like a metalic noise anyway. It was always associated with throttle on or off, but I could not get it to sound off unless I was riding, never heard it when the engine was raced and the bike stationary. Today it was worse than ever, when I got home I was able to hear it while on the side stand in he garage. When I would put my fingers on the right rear speaker grill the noise would stop, remove my finger noise comes back. "HA Got you" I said to myself. Looked inside for some foriegn object (FO for you USAF guys) nothing. So I start to pull plastic parts off, nothing, so when I put things back together, I put a small piece of adhesive backed foam ruber betwen the speaker gill and the frame it mounts to behind the passenger seat. Took it for a short test run, no noise. Plan on taking an all day ride tommorrow, that should tell me if it finally fixed or not. Here is for hoping.

Here what they look like after you swat them with your bike. The acid in their bodies is so strong that no birds will eat them because they taste bad and they will eat right thru your paint if you let them stay on very long.

Servicing rearend/driveshaft... ??
M61A1MECH replied to JonnyQuest's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
See if you can hook up with Ruffy, he up in J'ville some place. -
Monday to Friday: Work 7am to 6PM, if I am lucky. Saturday's and Sunday's open if I am not riding There are a couple of members in the J'ville area that may be able to hel, but not sure if they have original Royal Star experience or not ot carb synch equipment. I will be happy to help if you are in the area or if we can meet someplace. Sounds like the Seafoam may be a good bet, also if the shop just did the carb overhaul they should have synched the carbs when they put them back on. It does sound like too much air for the amount of fuel. If you are in the Daytona area stop by Fun Machines on US1, the service manager is very good see if you can talk with him. Their service dept did the carbs on my 98 a few years back after 2 two other shops goofed them up. When they got done the bike ran as good or better than new.

Where abouts in Florida are you? If close to Daytona area I have tools to synch the carbs.

Need some help identifying an RSTD.
M61A1MECH replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This should help. The bike pictured is a first generation ROYAL STAR, they where made from 1996 to 2001 in variuos models including the Tour Deluxe. They had 79 HP output at the crank. The bike pictured most likely started it's life as a Royal Star Tour Classic, it has after market bags, the Tour Classic came with the large floppy leather bags, if you look at the other photos on the ebay listing you will see the tank bib is leather with a distinctive tooling pattern used only on the Tour Classics , see pic below from my 98 TC. You will also see a picture of the front fender, mouse over that and enlarge it and you can see it says "Tour Classic", see the picture below from my 98 TC , additionally the passenger back rest is the short version also a standard for theTour Classic. The original Royal Stars also had a model called Tour Deluxe, from 1998 to 2001 they mirrored the Tour Classic except they had hard bags, rubber tank bibs and tall passengar back rests. The current version of the Tour Deluxe with 98 hp, did not hit the streets untill 2005. -
No it is a easy as pie, take the hanger bolts loose , the clamps loose slide oem mufflers off, assemble the Kromewerks hangers, bolt up attach clamps and fire it up.
-
I can tell you that the Khrome Werks slipons that I purchased were listed as for the Venture and they were originally designed for a Harley, because along with the instructions for mounting them to a Venture they sent along instructions that at the top of the page for the installation instructions it states " 3" HP-PLUS MUFFLER W/MULTI-TIPS F/L85-94 & 95-98 FL & TOURING MODELS " The Venture kit does come with the adapter plates required to mount them to the Venture.

Stripping a 99 venture royale
M61A1MECH replied to RedRaptor22's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds like a waste of time and effort to me, you would like be better off selling it as is or just parting the whole thing out and taking the money, but that is just me. -
Try here. http://www.southco.com/landingpages/dzus/ Brings back lots of memeries of working on F-4's and F-15 many decades ago.

OK, where did it go???
M61A1MECH replied to wes0778's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Wes I am working from memory here, because I sold my 98 TC about 3 years ago, but I am pretty sure the 98 did not have the same idle adjuster as the Venture (knob on a tube trick) on the right side of the bike. The 98 should have a knurled knob with a crosspoint in the center on the left side under the tank just aft of the carbs. Take a look there. I could be all wrong, I do suffer from CRC syndrome now that I getting older. -
I have mine in the trunk, mounted up against the front bulkhead, strapped in with a piece of aluminum flat stock, a few pieces of foam rubber to help dampen the shock. Skips a little but not bad. On very hard bumps it will eject the disc cassette. Don't ask me how I know this, but if you drop you bike on to the left crash bars, it spews the discs out of the cassette into the guts of the player an dyou have to field strip the player to extract them. With the way I mounted mine I can still put two half helmets in the truck.

Chances are that the person that entered the information fo rthe EBAY listing was clueless about the 5 year warrenty on the Royal Stars. All Royal Stars from 1996 to 2010 have come out of the factory with a 5 year. Yes the Tour Deluxe has the same motor as the Venture. The book value for a used 2008 at Kelly Blue Book is $10,255.00, at NADA it is $10,855.00, the original list value on that model was $14,999.00 acording to NADA. I would call or email them about the warrenty statment in the listing, just in case this a factory to dealer auction vehicle. I have been told by a dealer in Arkansas that at the end of the model year the factory will auction off what ever stock has not been delivered to the dealers that projected they would order and sell them. I can not substantiate this statement, but I was told that some of them are auctioned without any warrenty. Not sure why that would be the case, but I have no reason to doubt the person that told it to me. Not sure if you are wanting that specific color or just that model year, there is a 2008 Tour Deluxe listed on Cycle Trader for $9,999.00, it is here in Florida, so it is a bit further away from you than the one in NV on EBAY. That bike listed on Ebay is listed on Cycle Trader. See the link below for the one listed in Lakeland, FL. http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/2008-YAMAHA-Royal-Star-Tour-Deluxe-94614060

Fairing Dampers and Risers
M61A1MECH replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This what I did. Took some rubber coil spring spacers and ground them to fit, made a strap out of some aluminum stock, painted them, wedged them in place and attached th estraps with some ss deck screws. Works well and you hardly know theu are there.
