Saturday 10 Dec 201 about 1:30 PM I passed a Venture, I believe it was a 99, going west on County Road 42 in Lake County just outside of Altoona. I was heading east on my Blue/Black 07. Was it anyone on here?

The configuration of the coils on the original Royal Stars are the same as the Venture, the caps can be removed from the wires, but the wires are molded into the coil.

but I think I like them. I decided to go with the 7 inch lights instead of the 11 inch ones. There are not many attach points on the side rails so I decided to use the shorter lights to keep the cantilever effect to a minimum because I only used one attach point. Right now the inside ones are set up as brake lights (red), the out board ones are set for turn signals (amber), as soon as the divider circuits arrive I set them up as dual intensity for running / brake / turn.

I prefer Nikons also, I have the D60, but I think it was well north of the $500.00 mark, but Nikon has SLR COOLPICS that should be under $500.00.

New sounds coming from front end. What is it?
M61A1MECH replied to muaymendez1's topic in Watering Hole
There is a common issue that crops up on the original Royal Stars, that causes odd noises from the front and is hard to track down unless you know where to look. The bracket that holds the cooling fan is known to crack and break regularly on those bikes, the resulting noise can be very disturbing when riding. Reach in behind the radiator and try flexing the bracket that holds the fan, check it from both the left and the right just to be sure. Repairing it requires pulling the fan and bracket, I fixed mine with a few bits of scrap aluminum flat plate, machine screws and nuts, and a helping of JB Weld just to be sure. just another idea you can check off the list. -

Had a similar issue with a dealer that I normally do not do buisness with. We were at his location doing a function and I needed some parts, so being the nice guy I am I said I will give him my buisness, for hosting the event. Checked and the parts were not on the shelf, but they offered to drop ship them to my house with no shipping charges. Well a week goes by , 10 days nothing, so I call. "Yes sir your parts are here , we were wondering when you were going to pick them up", was the reply, so after a bit of tongue biting, I reminded them of the deal and that I needed the parts with in the next 4 days so the bike would be ready for a trip I planned. They did man up and send the parts next day, but it goes to show you how easy things get goofed up, even when you are dealing with them in person, never mind emails or phone calls.

Almost an automatic, the FJR was offered for a few years with the option of an electric clutch, no clutch lever just a shift lever or thumb paddle shifter, you could select one or the other as you rode. I thought it would hard to get used to, but when I took a demo ride a few years ago, it was as easy as could be, just cannot blip the throttle at red lights because as you get ready to take off , the clutch is engaged by engine rpms, and blipping the throttle will land you in the middle of the intersection.

Question about driving lights/signals
M61A1MECH replied to 1BigDog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ruffy This will sound a bit off the wall, but I had a similar issue on my 98 Tour Classic some years ago. Turned out to be a bad run/turn signal bulb. I could not find the issue so just for grins I swapped bulb left to right and the problem followed the bulb, changed the bulb and the problem went away. I never fully understood it, but it was fixed. If you have not tried smething simple and silly, try it cannot hurt anything. -
I am just up the road frim T-ville, in Edgewater, try touring the center of the state over in Lake, Sumter, Pasco, Hernando and Marion counties. Very nice scenary and actually a few hills with some twisties if you know where to find them. Mount Dora is a nice place to ride to and poke around. I have some routes mapped out on PDF for various areas, send me your email address and I can send them to you.

You can never get all of the old oil out, the folks on this site are correct when they say 4 quarts is to much. I have been riding Royals in one fashion or another since 98 and have always done all of my own oil changes. Always used 3.5 quarts with a filter change, never had a problem. Sometimes after a prolonged high speed run on the interstate I will see a few drops of oil from the vent tube, but that is the only time. Do make sure you are checking your oil level with the bike up right, the level should just at the mid point in the window with the bike up right. With the bike on the side stand there should be no oil visible in the window. -

Replacing seat with harley seat
M61A1MECH replied to muaymendez1's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
For what it is worth, there is guy on the Delphi forums that has a Venture pillow top set that has been modified to fit a RSTD, for $150.00 plus shipping from south Florida. -
I had the same thing happen back in July, I unplged both ends of teh CD cable and checked for continuity thru the cable. Found that the cable had a break in it, changed the cable and all is good. The cable can be found on ebay, see this link. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=cca329&_sacat=See-All-Categories

They may fit but I cannot say that I have seen it done. Here is what I do know. The basic engine configuration for the original Royal Stars and the Royal Star Venture are the same, but the Venture has about 20 more horse power. The header pipes on the Venture are larger diameter than the the original Royal Star , so it is possible that the flange that connects the pipes to the head on the Royal Star Venture may be to large to get the proper fit and seal on the heads of the 96 Royal Star engine. You will need something like the saddle bag supports from a 98 or later Royal Star Tour Deluxe or Tour Classic to give you the proper place to hang the mufflers, I would not want all that weight just hanging out inspace. When I got my Venture I had a 98 Royal Star Tour Classic with BUB pipes, I contacted BUB's technical department to see if I could put those pipes on my Venture, they told me no. That could be because the the pipe inside diameter for the 98 are to small for the Venture to breathe properly and not because of a mechanical fitment issue. They did not elaborate, in true BUB fashion it was a one word answer "no." Let us know what you do and how it works out, good luck.

Chances are that the key that works the gas cap is the original key, if the ignition was replaced, as they often are on the 98's because of placement behind the radiator, chances are they did not re-key the new ignition to use the original key. I forget how far the key went in to the seat lock on my 98 TC, but I do know that some times I would have to push down hard on the seat or even thump it with may fist right above where the lock is as I was trying to turn the key. That would normally get to release, then I would lube up the pivots and the hook as I recall. Good luck
