  1. Good deal, you wil not regret it, now get over to GL1800Riders forum and stat reading about all the stuff you can do to Goldwings. Ride Safe.
  2. I find the wing much easier to handle, low speed handling is much better. The ride is stiffer on the wing, but it is more responsive and the power is awesome. I have Baker like wings on mine and it is much cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The stereo system is better and more advanced, no cassette player, no CD player just put music on a thumb drive and play it. Al in all I am glad I made the switch.
  3. Good on you guys. Have fun and stop by Edgewater next time you are in Florida.
  4. Yeah, but how do you get the magic blue smoke back in once it is let out?
  5. Thanks for the up date, Our prayers are with him, very glad to hear that is OK, I wonder if his new wing was equipped with an airbag? That would be interesting to know. The GL1800riders forum has been notified.
  6. Are there any details? I am headed over to the GL1800 riders forum, he is a member ther also , I will report any additioanl information.
  7. Yeah, that is why I was asking, I am thinking Gator Cliff does not have one picked out yet and is expecting whatever he gets will not to be plug and play. I never did look into the HIDs when I had my Venture, so I was not sure what was out there. Thanks for the feed back.
  8. Jonas, I had a little think about this request, I think if you were to remove the diodes I put into the harness that feed the light bar, and instead installed a 5 wire to 4 wire converter like would be used for wiring a trailer for a bike, you would get the effect you are looking for. Maybe some one that has a 5 to 4 wire converter can confirm that if a turn signal is on it will still flash on their trailers when they have the brake applied.
  9. The main breaker in the panel will tell you what your limit is. Also the panel it self will have a max load listed on it somewhere, normally listed on the inside of the panel door.
  10. Jonas, Really nice work there.
  11. Had a request from Gator Cliff over on the Delphi forum to build an extension cable for his head light harness on his Gen II Royal Star Venture. He did not want to cut into or splice the harness on the bike to install a HID or LED headlight he was thinking about getting. He was not sure he would like it so even more reason not to hack into the harness, should he decide to take it out he would just plug the stock set up back in. So I was able to find the male connector to plug into his harness. I made him a 12" long harness, now he can dable away with out risking damage to his bike's harness. Something like that would go for $13.00 delivered to the lower 48, add $5.00 to get it to Canada. Expanding on that I am tinking maybe a break out T harness ,like the one I make for the rear lighting would have value also. If you wanted to add a set of fog lights or running lights and wanted them controlled by the head light, you could use the T out of the harness to power a relay that would turn the added lights on or off , with say the low beams or the high beams. That a set up would go for $17.00 delivered to the lower 48 and $5.00 more to get it to Canada. Just a thought I had. I am happy to make them, but would like to see if here is sufficient interest to warrent buying a bunch of parts. Let me know what you think, or steal the idea and make your own. If you want one let me know I can have the parts in a few days after the order. Thanks for considering this idea.
  12. Is that what you use for water based motorcycles in stead of Seafoam?
  13. Do not know for sure, but I think not, during the numerous bike events here in Central Florida, I have seen many a bar rider come out and get on their Harleys and forget to put the kickstand up, and you can figure out the rest.
  14. Hey thanks Eck, I had found hose same photos, late last night or more corectly very early this morning, and was convinced they did not give what I needed, but I am glad you posted them again because looking at the first one, 'i can can just barely make out the black wire in the lower left, so that was one of the the pieces of the puzzle I was needing. The second photo I could not tell for sure if the connector had been rotated after being taken off, now I can tell it was just lifted straight off.
  15. I have had a request to make an adapter that will plug into the headlight connecter, so the wiring can be extended to facilite the install of a different headlight. The owner does not want to tap into or cut off the existing wiring, he wants to extend it. I can supply all of that easy enough , but thought it would be nice to use the correct colored wires, green, yellow and black, in the correct locations. I do not have a Venture any more so I cannot just go to the garage and look, so I was hoping someone would have a photo showing the correct placement for each color. If not I will have the requestor check for me, before I build the unit. Thanks for any help.
  16. Here is a link to forum that is like Venturerider in that there are lots of good folks with lots of good information. http://www.gl1800riders.com/forums/index.php, poke around, join, ask questions I am sure you will find what you need, including several ex-Venture riders there
  17. Ckick the edit button on the first post and go to the advance section, that should give you the option to edit the title.
  18. Had exactly that happen to me on my 98 Royal Star Tour Classic, back in 1999, guy stopped in front of me, I only had 3000 miles under my belt on this new bike, after coming off a 750 Virago (drum brake on he rear).Panic braking resulted in a locked up the rear wheel, now all I have is a rudder and for the life of me I cannot get it spinning again. Got stopped before I hit him, struggling to keep the bike from laying down and BAM the car behind us hits us. My wife still suffers from those injuries. So yes the rear brakes on all Royal Stars are very sensitive to locking up. Sky Doc is right on the money here.
  19. The power outlet (cigarette lighter type socket) on the inside of the fairing is switched with the ignition. In side the fairing is a two pin connector that feeds the power outlet. I sell a "T" harness that will let you tap into that circuit, all you need to do is add two contacts to your GPS power harness and insert them into the connector I provide. Cost is $13.00 delivered to the lower 48, add $5.00 to deliver to Canada. Here is photo.
  20. There was someone here or on the Delphi forum that found a way to make his own preformed hoses for a First Gen. He would use a standard piec of like heater hose, for copper wire to go inside the hose to make it the shape he wanted, then put it in boiling water so the hose took the shape, remove the wire forms and the hose stayed in the shape. I have also seen a coiled wire spring type device like a conduit bender that you put over a straight piece of hose and bend it in place on the car or bike and leave the spring coil tube on the hose to maintain the shape with out kinking the hose.
  21. Check my add in member vendors for a rear light bar, have one ready to ship.
  22. I would still opt for the compession test and leak down check. Flyingfool has some very good observations also, if you bust a connecting rod you got big troubles.
  23. One way to diagnose a head gasket failure is to do a compression check and leak down check. Yes water pump kit would be much cheaper. Is there water in the oil also? If you do not have the equipment to do the compression check and leak down, find out how much that would cost at the dealer or good reputable motorcycle shop, could be money well spent, blown head gaskets on Royal Stars are pretty rare. I have been around the Royal Star bikes since 1997 and only recall a couple of blown head gaskets, but lots of failed water pump seals, I was a victim myself and also immediately thought blown gasket. After having a compression test and leak down performed , both showing no issues, the service manager was scratching his head, he was long time Yamaha mech and had a V-Max as a daily rider, so was very familiar with the motor. We sat down and looked at the schematics together and after I pointed out the connection of the cooling system and oil system at the water pump, he agreed that was the likely culprit. Once I got the pump changed it took a good while to get all of the oil out of the cooling system. Not saying that is for sure your issue, but I would investigate that before diving into the motor.
  24. Well first the previous owner was clueless in a number of ways. There are no 4 cylinder V-Stars, only V-Twins There is no 1500 V-Stars, I am not aware of any 1500 cc Yamaha's What you have is a Royal Star Standard, built from 1996 to 2001. How do you know it needs a new head gasket? If by chance you have oil in your coolant, it is probably a bad water pump seal, happens on these bikes at around the mileage you have. You may want to try here for a manual and more info, http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar
  25. Very similar to the Honda F6B Goldwing in looks. Good looking bike.
