  1. My 98 Royal Star Tour Classic was by far my favorite bike.

Several folks have mounted after market Harley style Tour Packs on their bikes and yes the brackets are custom made, usually by the owners and at least one member here is mounting a Venture trunk to an Eluder. I only know about these because I have built wiring harnesses for them to make the lights functional, for the one mounting a Venture trunk, he will be mounting one of my Venture style light bars to his. I think most folks doing this are on a Facebook platform for the Eluder, all my orders for those have come through Facebook Good luck with your search..

Dave, It is a mystery to me, makes no sense, but there is a resistor in line with each LED that maybe that knocks down any parasitic draw, he tapped into the circuit between the ECU where the signal comes from and the resistors. He did find a 5mV charge on the lines, but that bled off quickly with just the meter load, so I chocked that up to capacitance in the wires. Not knowing what is going on inside the ECU I really can not offer any rational explanation. I thought maybe he had left the key on in the accessory position, but he said the bike alarms if the ignition is left on for a few minutes and he was sure he would have noticed the ignition switch in anything but the OFF position when he came back to it the next day. He and the bike are in California and I am here in Florida, so I have no one on one with the bike and no knowledge of the bike's systems beyond what I read in the schematics. I cannot believe the LEDs would be the issue. We have selected a small encapsulated relay that has two normally open contacts, he is going to wire them in so they come on and close the contacts when the ignition is on and let the bike send the turn signal power to the added LEDs through the closed contacts. Should work, he will let me knows once they are installed. What puzzles me is he cannot be the first rider to try an add addition signal lights to the front of an Eluder and I just built a system for him that connects the rear turns, running and brake circuits to a Harley style tour pack, that all worked just fine, tapped into the rear lights just as you would for a trailer harness but without and isolator, that has been installed for over a week with no issues. Here is for hoping the isolation relays do the trick.

Trying to help a fellow with an Eluder, he wants to add running and turn signals to the front forks, he has found that if the turn signal circuits are connected directly to the LEDs he purchased there is a constant drain on the battery, even with the ignition off. Sounds crazy to me, but he has troubleshot it out so I believe he is correct. So my question is , what have other forum members used for isolation relays to turn light circuits on and off. I have used isolation relays for my trailer harnesses, but they are currently unavailable due to part shortages, I have already recommended the isolation relay from EC that they used for their trailer harnesses, but both EC's offering and my traditional go to device are expensive for what he needs to do. I am looking for a proven product, suitable for LEDs that does not break the bank. Thanks M61A1MECH

Nothing the motorcycle rider could have done to prevent his portion of the accident, the preventable part happened when one vehicle violated the right of way of the other vehicle, causing one of them to hit the rider and bike, if you consider it as two accidents, the first was completely preventable, the second one no, just wrong place at the wrong time.
  7. I wish I had more info for you, but my 98 has been gone since 2007, and I never needed to dive that deep into mine, hopefully someone with a functioning early model Royal Star will be along shortly to help out.

I had that happen from time to time on my 98 Tour Classic, normally a good hard smack down on the seat right above the lock would do the trick, sometimes I needed to apply steady pressure on the key in the unlock direction while I smacked the seat. Try flushing the lock with a plastic safe contact type cleaner, then blow it dry with canned air and apply powered graphite to the internals of the lock and rub some on the key as well. Oils are not normally recommended for locks, the oil tends to gather dirt and dust which will further hinder the proper operation. Good luck , keep us posted.

The header pipes should bolt up with out issues, they both have the same motor (more or less), but the newer Venture style bikes 1999 to 2013 use larger diameter pipes, so that may require rejetting due to change in the back pressure. Also you would need to find or fabricate some type hangers for the muffler sections, the tail pipe sections are to heavy to just let them hang on the header pipes. On the original Royal Stars 1996 to 2001 that had 4 into 2 pipes they used a hanger that was part of the saddlebag supports, you may be able to find some of those systems for sale, but I am not sure if there is a place to hang the pipes on a bike that came from the factory with 4 into 4 pipes. Good luck in your search, if you come across a set of BUBs for Royal Stars they are great sounding pipes, but as they have been out of production for many years they are very hard to find.   11. the 2005 to 2010 Royal Star Tour DeLuxe was the same as the 1999 to 2013 Venture, except no trunk, no fairing and no audio system, the motor and carbs are the same. The 1996 to 2001 Royal Stars used smaller 28mm carbs.

Many years back I asked the Yamaha reps at Bike Week in Daytona what that was for and they told it was a deflector to fuel that could get spilled, it supposed to keep the raw fuel off the hot engine parts. It is supposed to be on the left side, One of the bikes on display that year someone had put it on the right ride, when I pointed that out to them they got all red faced and took the bike off display to fix it, the next day it was back with the deflector on the correct side. I also know that the wire part of that is there to keep you from putting your leg on the valve cover, because if you wearing shorts and your leg touches that wire, you pull back before you can close to the valve cover, it gets plenty hot.
  13. Pictures of my drive way and canal across the way. The canal is normally about 5 feet below the banks, my house is about 5 feet above the road grade, so I am not worried about the house.

Down graded to a tropical storm and is tracking further south than the earlier projections suggested, we are still getting a fair amount of rain and wind, the center of it should clear the eastern coastline sometime Thursday afternoon. Should exit the state down around Cocoa Beach then track northward along the coast, so a few more days of wind and rain.
  15. All battened down here, shutters up, food and water stores put up, just waiting for a bunch wind and rain, been through this many times over the past 50+ years here in FL.

  21. Carbon One may still be making trailer hitch set ups, here is is a link to his add here on the forum. I still make wiring harnesses, here are links to my adds. If your trailer has an electrical connector that does not match the photos, I can custom build with a suitable connector.
  22. If you do that and the bike ever needs to be towed on an open trailer, take the seat off or put a binder strap over it, because it will take flight and then you are buying a new seat.

  24. The factory actually says 0 psi required and 7 psi is the max pressure, you need to use a syringe type pump with a zero loss chuck to add air and make sure both forks have the same pressure.
