LED Turn Signals/Driving Lights
M61A1MECH replied to leo3wheel's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Positaps are fine connections, much better than those Scotch-lok guillotine type taps, but here is another option that will work under the seat and is even less invasion to the wires. Take one of my aux harness set ups and take the left and right turn signal leads to the heat sink, makes it all very plug and play and no chance of damaging the wire harness. Plus it gives you ready access to the other signal wires if you want to add more lights later. One of the guys on the Stratoline forums did this and said it worked great. Here is a link to my ad for a Venture style harness, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=4&title=aux-lighting-harness-for-2nd-gen-venture&cat=18 -
Spent my high school years and many others in Brooksville, once dated one of the girls that performed as a mermaid and my first wife worked there during the summers. Shoot even Elvis shot a movie not far from there out on the grass flats. The area of western Hernando county where Brooksville is has some of the best riding roads in central Florida.

If you do decide to take it all apart, I read a hint over on one of the Goldwing forums about that sort of thing. It was suggested to take it apart in side of a plastic bag so if there are any spring loaded parts that come flying out, they will be contained in the bag, could save you having to hunt all over the garage for a small spring or who knows what. I have not had a chance to try this idea so I do not have any practical hints or suggestions on how to do it, but the idea sounds like a good way to keep all the parts in one place, I will try it one day I am sure.

Electrical connections has a set for Goldwings that may fit a Venture. If you can not find them let me know I will post a link later. -
Rear Tour pack for RSTD?

A number of folks over on the Stratoliner forums have used the Wompusrack solution. If you get something and decide to add lights to the back of it. I can help with that. -

Current rumor over on the Delphi forums is 12 June is the date for the new Venture to be introduced. No specifics on the platform, performance or styling. So lets see what happens on the 12th of June. Maybe something / maybe nothing. -
Patti, those dates will be tough for me as I just started back to work at a real job, so free time during the week is not something I have anymore.

If you are coming near Edgewater, FL here on the east coast, give me a shout, maybe we can get together. Have a great trip.

Heads and carbs question
M61A1MECH replied to lonzo's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
OK, that sounds like it could work, but I am not sure if anyone has done that, I would strongly suggest asking the same question over on the DELPHI forum. -
Heads and carbs question
M61A1MECH replied to lonzo's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
OK first things first, you need to find a new dealer. Were talking with the parts guys or the service department? The heads may fit but not entirely sure , but the carbs will not without a machined adapter plate. The non Venture type Royal stars made from 1996 to 2001 used 28mm carbs, the Venture type Royal Stars made from 1999 to 2013, which include the 2005 to 2010 Tour Deluxe use 32 mm carbs. Having said that, I know some folks have converted non-Venture Royals to accept Venture type carbs, so it can be done, but requires a decent machinist, new carb boots and changes to the air box or air filter, I think most that did it used single pod air filters on each 32mm carb instead of using the air box set up Yamaha uses. If no one here chimes in with more specific information, go over to the DELPHI forums for Royal Stars and Ventures, I know there are some folks over there that did it for sure. -
Sounds like a deal, I would jump on it if it were me.

Next step is to try and find a used caliper off a trike conversion, as was suggested over on the GL1800 forum, maybe be readily available from newer 1800 conversion, not sure if those fit your bike. Some one on the GL forum will know , I am sure. I take it you saw my post on your other thread?
-
If his 1500 GL is like my 1800 the head of the bolt/screw sits in a counter bore no way to get to the side of the head.
-
I posted a similar response to his other thread on the same subject, turns out he is working on a Honda Goldwing, and those brake pad pins do in fact thread into position.
-
OH, OK, that is very different, sorry I did not pay attention to the forum title the post was in, my 2013 has similar set up. If you back the pistons all the in and shift the caliper to one side you may have enough room to get a pair of small vise-grips on the pin shaft and get it loosen, if not, you may have to disconnect the caliper and unbolt it from the bike and take it to a bench where you can work on it. With the pistons back all the way and the disc out of the way you should have room to get vise grips on the pin shaft between the pads. If you can get a drill a hole where you can get a screw extractor in , but I would be hard pressed to try that on the bike, I would take it to my drill press to drill the hole, problem is the pin is not very large in diameter so you may end up busting the easy out if not careful. I would not do this while the caliper is mounted on the bike either, but if you get it to a bench and are able to get the next size Allen to grab or maybe a torx bit to grab, you can try using a hand impact wrench on it if you have one, or sometimes just a good shot with a medium sized hammer onto the Allen driver while applying torque in the loosening direction will be enough to free up a stuck fastener. In this case you will probably want to be sure and rigidly support both side of the caliper, those parts are likely to be cast metal and very brittle, if not supported properly when wacked with a hammer you could bust off the "ear" the pin goes through, so approach this idea vey cautiously. Another thought :Also if you can gain access to the threaded part of the pin, by depressing the pistons and shifting the caliper (on the bike) or with the caliper assembly off the bike and on the bench, try applying some liquid wrench, PB blaster or a mixture of acetone and automatic transmission to the threaded end, let it seep in for several hours, over night if possible then try to get something like a torx bit or something that will grip in the Allen socket and try to loosen it. Good luck, keep us posted, I saw you plea for help on the GL1800 forum also, I will watching there for other ideas.

That pin does not unscrew, it is not threaded, there is a hair pin type of keeper un the inboard side, just rotate the pin to where you can pull the keeper out. You have probably spun it to where the keeper is locked against some thin. Try going back the other way just a little.

So I continued to find fresh digs in the yard and paw prints, so I set the trap again last night , baited it with a can of wet type cat food. This morning I found the raccoon's neighbor in the trap, a very healthy looking opossum, normally I only see them flat on the road. I will take him down to the same spot I relocated the raccoon to and they can live happily ever after. Never realized how similar raccoon and opossum paws are, so I suspect I was mistaken when I though the original offender had come back a few weeks ago. Now to find out what has started a burrow in my neighbor's yard and heads under my fence towards my yard. Could be an armadillo or a gopher tortoise, got to be careful if it is a gopher tortoise for two reasons, 1) They are classified as an endangered species and you definitely need a permit to relocate them. I have seen entire construction projects stopped and abandoned because gopher tortoise communities are present. 2) Rattle snakes like to share the dens the tortoise digs, I am not to keen on getting bike by a rattle snake. OK on to the next adventure.

I have seen that video before and had the same thoughts, I wonder what his will looks like.

Call Daytona Fun Machines at 386-238-zero888, ask for Roxie Torrey or Mark Torrey (husband and wife team that runs the service dept) tell them Steve Kowalcky from Edgewater recommended them, it may help. They have done all the major work on my bikes for the past 20 years, includes a 98 Royal Star, 07 Venture and current 3013 Wing, they have a good staff and stand behind their work. With bikeweek on through this weekend, probably best to call them sometime next week, they are open from Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 6PM. Good luck. keep us posted. -
I bought mine from Shinopples for the Goldwing, here is a link, http://www.shop.shinhopples.com/product.sc?productId=1067&categoryId=103 Only $6.20, not sure what the shipping would be, but they are only about 170 miles from Romulus , NY, so should not be much.
