  1. One thing I have seen on the Stratoliner forum I visit every so often is folks talking about how their Stratoliner eats rear tires, they all attribute it to the available torque, I would expect this new bike to do the same. I am anxious for someone here to buy one, so I can the scoop on what I need to design a break out and trailer harness for them. Who knows for those transcontinental trips you may need to haul a trailer full tires to get you from coast to coast.
  2. Another obvious question is; What oil are you using? On my 98 Tour Classic, I had problems with clutch slippage when I used Yamalube oil, I switched to Honda oil and slipping went a way until the friction plates needed changing.
  3. Try this link, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=62&title=second-gen-heavy-duty-clutch-spring-26amp-3b-full-disc-upgrade-kit&cat=17 He is on the Vendor Member section of the classified forum.

    Problem

Sometimes just smacking down on the fastener while applying force in the loosening direction is enough to jar a stuck bolt or screw loose. It is a bit tricky when dealing with Allen head bolls or screws. If you have an Allen stock that is set in a 3/8 or 1/4 inch drive adapter, you could put it on a breaker bar, at maybe with a helper applying torque on the handle at 90 degrees in loosening direction, smack an the knuckle of the breaker bar so the shock load is transferred straight down to the screw head. Just be careful not to miss and hit the tin panel, then you be buying a new panel.
  5. When I was in the Air Force and when I worked for McDonnell Douglas in Saudi Arabia I got to drive Jammers, officially they are called Bomb Lift Trucks. They have rear wheel steering and arms that raise and lower to lift bombs onto aircraft or take them off. They come in two flavors, a MJ-1 with fixed front wheels and a scissor type set of arms, and the MJ-4 this one has a hydraulic boom and front wheels that can be extended out board for greater lift capacity. Pretty fun to drive once you got the hang of rear wheel steering.

    Partzilla

I have started using this place http://www.partsfish.com for my Goldwing OEM parts, I find them to be very competitive and ship reasonably fast.
  7. So check this out, http://www.ebay.com/itm/FUEL-PUMP-FITS-YAMAHA-1D6-13907-00-00-/281995074619?rmvSB=true, I think both prices you listed are out of line, especially $200.00 from Dennis Kirk. Also try here for a rebuild kit on the points http://www.powersportswarehouse.com/pages/Catalog/Product/158278?catalogID=15&categoryID=156&subCategoryID=10623
  8. I am not Freebird, but those are called Carb Covers, like all after market parts for the Gen II Ventures they are scarce like hens teeth.
  9. Are you saying that the stereo puts out sound at full blast only and you cannot turn it down or are you saying you cannot hear any music until you get to level 30 on the volume control? If it will not turn down from 30 then I agree with Freebird, either the system is set to control the CB volume , in that case twisting the knob will have no effect on the radio volume until you switch to the audio control. If it is set to audio and will not turn down then something is defective. If you only hear sound when it is at 30 , then maybe the controller is on the head set (HS) mode, if that is the case turn the volume down to about 8 before switching to speaker mode.
  10. I assume you checked the obvious first? The kill switch. Is the kill switch on the right handle bar in the on position? Also you may want to check the other interlock switches on the side stand and the clutch.
  11. Maybe there is someone on the board that has an ignition module left over from when then put a DYNA 3K in that they would loan you to verify if it is the ignition control module or not. It could be as BongoBob said the starting circuit cutoff relay, there are about 6 diodes in there and it is possible it went bad, but that failure is rare in my recollection, as is a failed ignition module.
  12. According to his profile page he was on the forum yesterday, if you go to his add in Member Vendors section on classifieds and click on his name it will take you to his products, from there you can click on his name and view his profile. He has two phone numbers listed or you could PM him through the forum.
  13. If the starter motor is turning the engine over then it is not any of the kill switches, not the side stand switch, not the clutch kill switch, not the kill switch on the right handle bar, all of those inhibit the starter motor from turning over. If the starter is spinning the engine and it is not starting there are 4 possibilities. 1) No fuel getting to the cylinders, very possible. 2) No spark at the plugs, very possible. 3) No compression in the cylinders, highly unlikely. 4) No air getting into the cylinders, highly unlikely. As the bike was running at first then quit , I would suspect no fuel first then look at the possibility of no spark. Fuel pumps on these bikes go bad as has been evidenced on this forum many times. Those are my thoughts hopefully helpful.
  14. Could be just poor connections, I have seen more than a few of those trunk lights wired to where all the installer did was to jam the stripped end of the lead into the back side of the connector under the seat where the main harness and fender harness are joined. That incidental connection is prone to corrosion and thus high resistance causing poor performance. If you happen to find that is the issue, one of my break out harnesses may help the issue by allowing a fresh connection to the break out wires. But I will say the LEDs that Yamaha used in the wing lights really leave a lot to be desired. You may be able to open the strip up and replace with better LEDs, I did that on my Goldwing light bar in the spoiler, but it was a pain to get apart as the joint where the lens met the base was ultrasonically welded and very difficult to split and put back together. Keep us posted on what you learn and how you fix it.
  15. Jay, I just posted your message on the 1800 Goldwing Riders forum. The cell number you have in your post is that your number or Mike's number? Any idea exactly where he is in Colorado? Pretty big state. Prayers up for Mike.
  16. I had that problem on either my 98 Tour Classic or 07 Venture, can not recall which one, what I found was that the filament for the front turn signal had burned out and for what ever reason the signal was going through the running lamp filament causing it to blink like the turn signal. The difference in the resistance between the filaments was enough to cause the turn signal to flash rapidly, changed the bulb and all was normal again.
  17. You mentioned that you would be pulling a trailer with the Venture, if you do not already have a trailer harness on the bike, check my ads in the classified section under Member Vendors, I make a complete plug and play set up , not cutting no splicing.
  18. Yamaha almost never publishes horsepower on their bikes, you will have to wait for someone to have one dyno tested to get that information.
  19. I do not like it much, looks like a cross breed of a Stratoliner/Voyager/Victory. They did add some nice features, ABS, dual zone audio and reverse/parking helper. Yamaha really betrayed the Venture name and tradition by going with a V-Twin, I am pretty disappointed all in all. I will probably ride one just because, but VERY doubtful I would consider dumping the wing to get one.
  20. It is a V-twin based on Stratoliner , looks like, they have the gall to call it a Venture.
  21. This is unusual to say the least, but looks good. http://gl1800riders.com/forums/4-general-mc-message-board/355321-nearly-finished.html
  22. If you are still looking here is a link to one for sale over on the Delphi forum. http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar/messages/10446/1
