Try here http://www.utpr.com/rsv.html I had a Utopia back rest on my Royal Star Tour Classic and my 2007 Venture and liked them very much.

Well yeah Polecats that short for Polish Cats right?

Yeah, those wretched slice and tap things are the maybe the worst idea I have seen for electrical taps, except that the blue ones that Bushtec used on my Venture were the motivation behind me developing my break out harness and my plug and play trailer harness set ups. One of the blue taps they used cut right through my tail light wire on my venture, so I had to find the connectors and contacts to make the repair, the rest is history , much of which is recorded here on Venture rider and shared with many who have bought my products. I agree you need to loose the slice in taps, problem is the wires may break if you remove them you may need to put on new bullet connector ends. I make single to double and single to triple bullet adapters that will connect directly to those bullet connectors in your head light bucket. Some folks have taken my breakout harness that goes under the seat and terminated their load resistors to the turn signal circuits off the break out and then fixed the resistors to a place on the seat pan or frame to help dissipate the heat, although I am not sure how warm those load resistors get on the turn signal circuits, the load is not constant when the signals are on and normally your turn signals are only on for less than a minute, unless you are sitting at light or stop sign waiting to turn , but even then it is not that long, not like they are on the whole time you are riding. curious experiment would be to turn a signal on while the headlight bucket is open and touch the load resistor body to see how warm it gets and how long it takes to get worm. Also somewhere on the second gen tech page there is a tutorial on modifying the OEM flasher to work with LEDs so you do not need the load resistors at all. I would be happy to help once you sort out what you want or need to do, it is pretty hard to give really good advice based on just a few photos. Eagerly waiting for the under the seat photos.

Congrats, I know the feeling, a few years ago went nearly 12 months before finding meaningful work.

Float adjustment
M61A1MECH replied to wrscomncents's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Also check here in the Tech Section for 2nd Gens, for an optional way to set the floats. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?24246-Set-the-Float-Levels-on-QuickSilver What air filters are you using? K&Ns can cause a lean condition some times. Have the air boxes been modified? I made the mistake of installing K&Ns and opening up the air boxes on my 07 and it would bog down terribly, I ended up shimming the needles values out by one washer and going back to stock air boxes with the K&N filters. -

Made it home earlier today, just now found a second to sit at the computer, uneventful ride home, had a mini floor board come loose, but did not lose it and blew both low beam bulbs, only got about 2 years and 10,000 miles out that pair. We did stop in Dayton on the way home and spent 4.5 hours at the Air Force museum at Wright Patterson AFB, if you ever have the chance to go there, do not miss it, it was great and we could have spent several more hours there, but they wanted to close. It was great seeing folks again and meeting lots of new folks, hope the pond monster was pleased with my offering.

I always use Honda premixed coolant, on my Royal Star TC, Venture and Goldwing, nearly 200,000 miles on those combined, never a cooling problem. One thing you want to be sure is the coolant does not have silicate in it, that will ruin the seals in the pump.

Odd noise after rear end work
M61A1MECH replied to AGrengs's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a noise like that on either my Royal Star TC or the Venture, I forget which one, turned out to be that "U" shaped heat guard on the valve cover, it had fractured cleanly and very hard to see, but when riding under certain conditions it would squeak and squeal and drive me nuts. -
Covering bike when hauling it on a trailer question.
M61A1MECH replied to Albertastar's topic in Watering Hole
I considered trying a cover when I trailered a couple of my bikes, but was cautioned against it, as the cover is likely to beat on the paint and damage the bike's finish, so I just washed it when I got where ever arrived at my destination. -
OK, we are in Ashland, KY now, should be stopping by there between 1 and 2 tomorrow , depending on the weather.
-
OK, so the bike is ready, the trailer is ready, hooked up and tested. Trailer is packed with everything except what we need in the morning and stuff is ready to go into the cooler first thing. We are ready to head out in the AM, hoping the weather holds for us, it has been much better all weekend than was predicted a few days ago with the tropical storm that kicked up. Next stop Augusta, GA Every one ride safe.

I will be slowly working my north from Florida, taking 4 days to do some sightseeing and what not. Leaving on Tuesday the 29th, stopping in Augusta, GA, then Asheville, NC , up to Ashland, KY then on to Freebird's on Friday for a quick stop and then up to Vermilion, OH where we are staying. Keep your eyes out for a red Goldwing, two up pulling a black Bushtec trailer.

Larry and Joyce, Sorry for your loss, loosing a cherished pet, or maybe better described as faithful and loving friend is very painful, I feel for you.

So I was doing an oil change on my 2013 Goldwing yesterday, fully expecting to drop the hot drain plug into the container I collect the oil in, I can not tell you how many times that has happened, but anyways. I happened to recall having some smallish flat high strength magnets around, so I get one and see if it will fit inside my 17mm socket, and it does. So drop the magnet in, attach the socket to the ratchet and place on the drain plug, viola, the drain plug comes right out with the socket as the oil gushes out of the oil pan. No fuss, no muss no fishing in the drained oil for the drain plug and best of all no burnt fingers from trying to hang onto to hot drain plug or from getting bathed in hot oil. Others my work and there are commercially available magnetic sockets, but what I used is a 1/8" thick x 5/8" OD rare earth high pull magnet from McMaster Carr.

I went to an Estate Sale today and found a 91 Kaw Voyager$1000.00 and 2010 Yamaha FJR $5500.00, but price are negotiable, I know nothing much more about the bikes except they look like they are in need of some TLC. Both have around 60 to 70k on the clock. If you are interested PM me and I will give the phone number of the folks running the Estate Sale. Bikes are located in New Smyrna Beach , FL

I went to an estate sale today and found the trailer in the pictures, folks running the sale said owner is asking $1000.00 but is willing to negotiate and the closer he gets to his move date the more flexible he is getting on prices. I do not know any more about the trailer that you see in the photos, if you are interested PM me and I will give the phone number of the folks managing the estate sale. The trailer is located in New Smyrna Beach , FL

This probably does not need to be said, but just in case it does I going to say it anyway. Make sure you are starting with good clean surfaces any time you apply an adhesive. For previously glued surfaces this can be hard to attain, but if you are not down to the parent material, all you are doing is applying new adhesive to the old adhesive layer, also depending on the surface, often it is beneficial to roughen up the surface to give the adhesive more surface area to grip, just be sure to clean the area after abrading it to remove any loose particles. I know gluing up 101, but sometimes you need to be reminded of the basics, at least I know I do from time to time, but in my defense I am old and have forgot more than I remember.

Radiator gaurd
M61A1MECH replied to Raven1294's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I am not sure about screws in the back, my Venture with the Wagner grill is long gone, but I do recall some sort of protrusions in the back that held the screen on or something. I do know one thing, if your bike is lowered in the front and you hit the front brakes hard enough to make the front end dip, the rear tip of the front fender will contact the front of the Wagner grill. That is what happened to the guy I bought my Wagner off of, and why he took it off and sold it. There was a small chip in the paint on the Wagner as proof of it happening. So yes there are occasions when the rear fender tip can come in contact with the Wagner, but this is the first time I have heard of one puncturing a radiator. -
LED directional signal upgrade questions
M61A1MECH replied to Midnight's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Personally I will not use those horrible blue snap shut taps. They can and do sometimes sever the wire you are trying to tap into. If I may promote one of my products, I would suggest you look at this item http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=4&title=aux-lighting-harness-for-2nd-gen-venture&cat=18. It plugs in under the seat and you could splice the resistors to the two leads for the left and right turn signals and then take the other end of the resistors either to a frame ground or splice into the ground wire in my aux harness. You can also then mount the resistors to a suitable frame member to help the heat sink work. If you still want to put the resistors in the fairing, I suggest you use POSI-TAPS, they are much less intrusive to the wire harness and will not sever the wires they are tapped into. Here is a link, http://www.cycleterminal.com/posi-lock-connectors.html I have other solutions for tapping into the wires in side the fairing that will also work and not damage any wires, if you PM me I can send you some additional information. -
Yamaha tinted adjustable lower replacements
M61A1MECH replied to WIZ's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have heard that some folks with similar issues, painted their lowers, had pretty good results as I recall. -
I will be riding in on a Goldwing, so I am sure a Beemer would acceptable also.
